Chester's birthday is coming up this month, haven't entirely decided on what to do for his special day as yet ... but it will involve some time with me without the younguns ;-)
I came across this interesting artwork during my recent visit to Sydney and thought the old and the new looked cool. These sandstone blocks, embedded into the Tarpeian Way near the Royal Botanical Gardens, are relics from demolished buildings and structures such as Pyrmont Bridge. It was installed in 2000 by Japanese artist, Kimio Tsuchiya.

Much of this series is about complacency, about being trapped in your circumstances without realizing there is a way out. This image really embodies that for me, particularly in the way that we hold on to what we know even when the world around us is shifting; even when we are upside down and lost. To prefer familiarity rather than outside dangers. To rather rot in comfort than find fear in the unknown.
Or at least, that is my personal fear. That is what I see happening around me. That is what I won't let happen in my life.

Une splendide exhibition de montgolfières à Polignac en Haute-Loire.
Plus de 50 montgolfières ont décollé au pied de la forteresse pour composer un ballet dans le ciel, qui a duré plus d'une heure compte tenu du vent très modéré de cette journée quasi printanière !

A splendid exhibition of hot air balloons from Polignac in Haute-Loire.
More than 50 hot air balloons took off at the foot of the fortress, to compose a ballet in the sky, which lasted for more than an hour, given the wind was very moderate that day almost spring !

Eine herrliche exhibition ballon zu Polignac in der Haute-Loire.
Mehr als 50 ballons starteten am fuße der festung zu komponieren, ein ballett, in den himmel, die dauerte mehr als eine stunde in anbetracht der wind sehr moderaten tag fast frühlingshaften !

Una espléndida exposición de globos de aire caliente a Polignac en la Haute-Loire.
Más de 50 globos de aire caliente se inició en los pies de la fortaleza, para componer un ballet en el cielo, que duró más de una hora, dado que el viento era muy moderado, ese día casi primaveral !

Een prachtige tentoonstelling van hete lucht ballonnen te Polignac in de Haute-Loire.
Meer dan 50 hete lucht ballonnen vertrok aan de voet van de burcht, voor het samenstellen van een ballet in de lucht, die duurde meer dan een uur, gegeven de wind was erg matig dat de dag bijna lente !
Goede dag allemaal.

Uma magnífica exposição de balões de ar quente para Polignac, em Haute-Loire.
Mais de 50 balões de ar quente tirou de ao pé da fortaleza, para compor um balé no céu, que durou mais de uma hora, dado que o vento era muito moderado, que dia quase primavera !

O Convento da Ordem do Carmo de Lisboa localiza-se no Largo do Carmo e ergue-se, sobranceiro ao Rossio (Praça de D. Pedro IV), na colina fronteira à do Castelo de São Jorge, na cidade e Distrito de Lisboa, em Portugal.
O conjunto, que já foi a principal igreja gótica da capital, e que pela sua grandeza e monumentalidade concorria com a própria Sé de Lisboa, ficou em ruínas devido ao terramoto de 1755, não tendo sido reconstruído. Constitui-se em um dos principais testemunhos da catástrofe ainda visíveis na cidade. Actualmente as ruínas abrigam o Museu Arqueológico do Carmo.
É possível que a ruína do Convento do Carmo e do vizinho Convento da Trindade, aquando daquele terramoto, esteja na origem da expressão popular "Cair o Carmo e a Trindade".

The Carmo Convent (Portuguese: Convento da Ordem do Carmo) is a historical building in Lisbon, Portugal. The mediaeval convent was ruined in the 1755 Lisbon Earthquake, and the ruins of its Gothic church (the Carmo Church or Igreja do Carmo) are the main trace of the great earthquake still visible in the city.
The Carmo Convent is located in the Chiado neighbourhood, on a hill overlooking the Rossio square and facing the Lisbon Castle hill. It is located in front of a quiet square (Carmo Square), very close to the Santa Justa Lift.
Nowadays the ruined Carmo Church is used as an archaeological museum (the Museu Arqueológico do Carmo or Carmo Archaeological Museum).

El Convento de la Orden del Carmen de Lisboa se encuentra en una posición privilegiada, al lado del Rossio y con inmejorables vistas al Castillo de San Jorge. La iglesia del convento, que era la mayor iglesia gótica de la ciudad, quedó en ruinas debido al Terremoto de 1755 y es uno de los principales recuerdos del desastre que asoló la capital portuguesa. Actualmente, en las ruinas se encuentra el Museu Arqueológico do Carmo (Museo arqueológico del Carmen).

„LA DIAVOLEZZA“ - DIE SCHÖNE TEUFELIN
Da oben hauste vor vielen Jahren eine wunderbare Bergfee. Sie lebte in ihrer Felsenburg hoch oben zwischen Chapütschöl und Munt Pers, dort wo – eingefasst von Felsentürmen und grossen Geröllhalden- mitten in einer blumenbedeckten Bergweide, ein tiefblauer See die Sonne widerspiegelt, dort wo ganze Rudel von munteren Gämsen sich tummeln und im saftigen Gras weiden, dort wo die Berghühner gackern, hochfliegen, dann im elegantem Gleitflug landen, um zu weiden und weiter zu gackern, dort wo die Schneehasen mit offenen Augen träumen und schliesslich aufgeschreckt in gestrecktem Galopp davon sausen.
Das herrliche Weib wurde nur selten und flüchtig von Jägern erblickt und mit Vorliebe dann bestaunt, wenn sie über die Felsbände des Munt Pers zum „Lej da la Diavolezza“ hinüberwechselte, um dort ein erfrischendes Bad zu nehmen. Dann allerdings wurden die jungen Jäger ganz vernarrt und unvorsichtig. Sie folgten ihr, die stets von ihrer Gämsherde bewacht war, über die Felsgänge bis hinüber zu ihrem Felsenschloss.
Was dann dort geschah, das weiss man nicht, man ahnt es nur. Ein Jäger nach dem anderen verschwand und verlor sich am Munt Pers (verlorener Berg). So auch Aratsch, ein stattlicher Jüngling aus dem Dorf. Er kehrte von der Jagd nicht mehr zurück. Überall wurde vergeblich nach ihm gesucht und schliesslich musste man annehmen, er sei auch in die Gletscherbrüche am Pers gefallen oder irgendwo abgestürzt. Denn wer bis Einbruch der Nacht sich in der Region des Bernina-Massivs aufhielt, hörte, vom Winde getragen, die Klagestimme der Diavolezza, die ausrief: „mort ais Aratsch“ (Aratsch ist tot).
Das erzählte man sich von Generation zu Generation und nannte dann die schöne Alp im Kessel der Berninagruppe Alp Morteratsch. Aber die Diavolezza hatte keine Ruhe bis nicht der Gletscher vorrückte und die ganze Alp bis hinunter ins Tal mit Eis und Geröll zugedeckt war. Dann verliess sie die Gegend mit dem Klageruf: „davent dal Munt dal Pers“ und wurde nie mehr gesehen.

Peace Arch Park, BC Parks, British Columbia, Canada
The Peace Arch is a monument situated near the westernmost point of the Canada–United States border in the contiguous United States, between the communities of Blaine, Washington and Surrey, British Columbia. Construction of the 20.5-meter (67 ft) tall arch was headed by American lawyer Sam Hill and dedicated in September 1921. The Peace Arch commemorates the signing of the Treaty of Ghent in 1814, and symbolizes a long history of peace between the two nations. The monument is built on the exact U.S.–Canada boundary, where Interstate 5 on the U.S. side of the border becomes Highway 99 on the Canadian side, in the grass median between the northbound and southbound lanes.
The monument and the surrounding land is part of Peace Arch Park. Within the park is Peace Arch Border Crossing, a major border crossing between Interstate 5 and British Columbia Highway 99.
Peace Arch Park is an international park consisting of Peace Arch Historical State Park in the United States and Peace Arch Provincial Park in Canada. The park straddles the international boundary between the two countries at the extreme western end of the main contiguous section of the two countries' land border, between Blaine, Washington, United States, and Surrey, British Columbia, Canada, where it reaches Semiahmoo Bay of the Salish Sea on the continent's Pacific Coast. The park's central feature is the Peace Arch.
