when it starts to be cold outside ...

When the Chessie System started running the old Rock Island between Rockdale and Bureau, and down to Henry back in early 1982, operations didn't always go as planned. The intent was to run one eastbound and one westbound, the BORE and BORW, getting them over Metra's part of the Rock during the overnight hours. But there would be somewhat rare occasions when it was necessary to operate a daylight extra move. That's what we see here as B&O GP30 6961 leads a small westbound up Track Nine at Blue Island in March of 1982. At this time, GP30s and GP35s were the main power on the New Rock. The GP15Ts were still just a gleam in the Big Cat's eye.

Earlier this year on campus there are Sunflowers planted. I was so busy I almost missed taking an image of one

These canyons are crumbling right before our eyes. The huge stone walls collapse from each year's freeze and thaw. During summer monsoons, the slurry of water and stone grinds down the gorge, furthering itâs vast expanse. When the particulate and dust settles, eventually it will harden back into stone and continue the cycle over and over for eons.

The night is our promised land

The day is our masquerade

There's no salvation here to find

No mercy for what's left behind

I become nostalgic when I see photos of California or all other places I travel to for work or fun. Unfortunately, other than a few short daily trips here, around Colorado, I haven't traveled for six months and I am not sure when I will be able to travel again.

Besides, friends haven't been able to visit either. Emily, a good psychologist friend I made in Las Vegas last December twitter.com/exlibrisetc/status/1210810151650725888?s=21, was supposed to visit here in Spring for a few days. She had never been in Colorado and I was looking forward to showing her some of our gorgeous National Parks. Naturally, that didn't happen.

Yeah, the situation has impacted us all and I am not even talking about those who already struggled with the virus. It has impacted everybody and in different ways, depending on what we value most. Because work-for-travel-for-work is my life's motto, not being able to travel is how it has impacted me the most. But I think the worst is over.

All the indications are that Americans have finally had it with both, the malignant narcissist in the White House and the virus, and sometimes frustration is a good motivator. The first is really in our hands, the second is in the hands of the scientific community all over the world - chances are that we will have the vaccine sooner rather than later.

Introverts like me, who live alone, have it easier than most though. Luckily for me, what I do for a living can't all be done from home. Going to the customer's lab for different projects has been really fulfilling at a time when most are working from home. The rest of the free time has gone for reading and small home projects that I had neglected. I have also thought about photography. My gear is getting old and I am not sure whether I will replace it even though I love photography very much.

I use Flickr and Twitter as a public journal of sorts. On Twitter, I post more video clips from the road trips and those memories melt my heart. Here I post photos from those trips, but if it is just for that, my iPhone 11 with its great camera might just do fine.

Whatever I will choose one thing is for sure, I am itching for travel.

When the sun goes down .......

Yotsuba joins me in my celebration. After being laid off when the place I worked at for 5 years went out of business, (and being unemployed for 4 months) I am happy to say that I got a job offer today with the company of my dreams! I am so happy!

Yotsuba tells me she is excited to go to work with me now. (this will be interesting).

Note to my friends on Tag your it the epic adventures of Yotsuba - I will be uploading my entry tomorrow. Sorry for the delay, I have had a bunch on my plate lately....

When I was young the answer was "Poke him in the eye!" But these days I suspect traffic and parking are enough to make a Maltese very cross indeed. Around Valletta and Sliema traffic is horrendous and parking no better, both a real nightmare. For a change there was nothing in front of this garage, so I was able to get my photo. But this was probably the exception to the rule...

It's such a shame I hadn't my Nikon with me yesterday! The picture would have been better.

When waves crash onto the rocks, there are a few pathways on the cliffs that lead to small waterfalls like these. The Paradise Park Cliffs has tons of cool spots to see. I love the look of the contrast between the water and the rocks.

For a great flickr friend and talented photographer John Frenzel who left me a lovely testimonial. You should make a point of checking out his varied photostream.

I had a friend who worked in the CP's Power Bureau in Montreal when the railroad was headquartered there. When our schedules worked out I would jump on No 41 to hang out with LBC for the day before returning home on No 42 that night. FP7-A #1402 was our power on No 41 and has already cut off from the train, I ran to the Boundary going back to crash in a roomette and walking through the engine room it was evident that this unit had a class overhaul recently. The cars would go to the Glen for servicing the move handled by a yard job. The power would be handled by outside hostlers back to the Glen as well. The Glen is no more.

A treat today when a New Holland Honeyeater (Phylidonyris novaehollandiae ) visited the bird bath. A fairly common bird in the area but usually found around coastline shrubs and trees. Although it's only a few hundred metres from the beach, this is the first time I've seen one on my property.

When foliage meets Halloween preparations...

"So, let's go to the art studio, NOW, Nanette" . . .

Well, it wasn't that simple, nor immediate!

Since the girls hadn't been here in over 3 years,

a *tour* was in order! Our older granddaughter sat on the floor in my studio for almost an hour, mesmerized and immersed in her dream room!

Ironically, with a house and various studios FULL of art and supplies, there are actually not a lot of large spaces in which to create with small groups!

So we covered our kitchen counter with oil cloth and funny papers, added another table, adorned paint smocks, and excitedly began! Our daughter had brought along a gel plate, acrylics, stencils, ephemera and ideas! We provided the paper and assorted leaves from our gardens!

Voilá . . . an explosion of creativity and FUN!

. . . and, it's only just begun!

when we are lonely, music fills up the vaccum.

When my King and I are out hiking I often hide and let him find me.

You can see he has spotted me, and he always greet me with his best smile.

I never have to Say Cheese to this happy dude, what an awesome dog he is 🙏

When the things going on in the world these days

make you just feel like giving up, sigh =(

Please remember why it is that you have held on

for so long in the first place =)

Being HAPPY is a choice we have ~

Week #8 (w/b 30 August) When Things Go Wrong - do you throw your hands up in the air, get into a mad panic or just sit back and say “that’s life?” I’m sure I know someone who just says “heck, give me some chocolate!” You can share your “gone wrong” happenings or maybe just what to do when those things do go wrong and remember to keep smiling!!
