When I posted a photo of these unusual amaryllis (Hippeastrum cybister) in January, I commented that I have had little luck in getting amaryllis to re-bIoom. I put them in the side yard and forgot about them until July, when I discovered new buds! They now grace my patio at Lake Tahoe.
But a Christmas Eve snow
A day early this year...
___________
Even though we remain hovering right at the freezing point, early this morning big, fluffy, and wet snowflakes began to fall, continuing even now and providing a beautiful, fresh white accent to the landscape...the northwoods' annual celebration of the season. This shot, as with so many others over the years, taken from my deck.
[This is also the time of year at which I get confused as to whom I've wished Season's Greetings and to whom I have not. Forgive me if I repeat myself and, in the spirit of the holidays, be patient with an old man, accepting good wishes however often they may be repeated. It's the thought, not the memory, that counts. ;-))]
When the former Isar weir in Ismaning was demolished (converted to artificial river rapids), many rocks were left for a more "natural" appearance.

As we aproached the lake, I heard some fellow hikers exclaim "It looks like they use food colouring here!" I thought: photo-op. I don't use any of the 'magical' settings on my camera, but this time I didn't have my glasses on. When I got back home and looked at the pic on my computer I thought "What the heck!" I must have inadvertantly moved the dial. Even though I almost deleted it, after a while this funky image kind of grew on me. Next time though, I will have my glasses on.

Found this Colander in a kitchen cabinet and thought I would try to fill it with Happiness. Being as creative as a bag of rocks, this was the best I could do… it did bring a smile : )

When taking this photo the weather was really strange, it rained, snowed and then the sun would come out, you could feel the temperature fluctuating, made for a nice autumn/fall photo.

When the sun jumped out, wrapping with the mist, you were not only listening to the sound of the falls roaring, also breathing the moisture in the air and feeling the sun kissing the skin…
Gotta balance the focus stacked images every so often and the Meyer Optik lens has been wondering when I would get off of f/8 and open it up a bit. Well this week seemed like the perfect opportunity to do just that. No stacking here, just one image with very little focus but plenty of colorful bokeh. I did have to wait for some direct sunlight but the rest was easy, Put a curly pile of scaly gold and blue ribbon on a mirror, stick it in the sun filtered a bit with a white screen and go bokeh hunting with the Meyer Optik 50mm f/1.8 set on wide open and a Nikon PK-12 14mm extension tube. After seeing a potential angle a bit of poking and prodding completed the look. The colors were so vivid not much post processing was needed. Truth be told I did take plenty of shots and I started with artificial lights but the bokeh came out looking a bit soft and diffused so I waited and hoped for sunlight which I got the next day in the afternoon.
The image measures app 2 x 3 inches but hard to say, the curl measured 1 inch in diameter. Made for the Macro Mondays group, Theme, "Wrapping".

When hiking through marshes, I've often been asked if I knew the identity of this bird. It's a very common bird in Michigan marshes. She is the female Red-winged Blackbird (Red Wing), so different from her jet-black mate with his red and yellow "epaulets" on his wings (shown in first comment below).
In this picture, she is puffed up on a chilly day at Lake St. Clair Metropark. The dry stems of the reeds look richly-colored in the golden light.

When the geese were on the move in late October I picked this location in the hope I could capture a group rising off the lake in the morning light.

When I got to the lake it was bitterly cold. But then the sun came. The landscape shone and I felt the warmth of the rays on my cheeks.
Besides me there were two other photographers at the lake. One filmed himself at work - the other had a huge telephoto mounted and was possibly looking for birds. We didn't speak - but I'd love to see their pictures.
♫ Keith Whitley - When You Say Nothing At All♫
It's amazing how you
Can speak right to my heart
Without saying a word
You can light up the dark
Try as I may, I could never explain
What I hear when you don't say a thing
The smile on your face
Lets me know that you need me
There's a truth in your eyes
Saying you'll never leave me
The touch of your hand says you'll catch me wherever I fall
You say it best when you say nothing at all
All day long I can hear
People talking out loud (oooh)
But when you hold me near (you hold me near)
You drown out the crowd (the crowd, the crowd)
Try as they may, they can never define
What's been said between your heart and mine
The smile on your face
Lets me know that you need me
There's a truth in your eyes
Saying you'll never leave me
The touch of your hand says you'll catch me wherever I fall
You say it best (you say it best) when you say nothing at all
The smile on your face
Lets me know that you need me
There's a truth in your eyes
Saying you'll never leave me
The touch of your hand says you'll catch me wherever I fall
You say it best (you say it best) when you say nothing at all
(You say it best when you say nothing at all
You say it best when you say nothing at all)
That smile on your face
The truth in your eyes
The touch of your hand
Lets me know that you need me
(You say it best when you say nothing At all
You say it best when you say nothing at all)

A tribute and respect to Queen Elizabeth II, who was a remarkable woman. For in that same year of 1952; I was born, she was crowned, and for all of 70 years, she gave her full loyalty and devotion in her service to us all.
Now, may she finally come to rest in peace !!!
I took this shot from St. Philip's Cathedral of Birmingham; so many thanks for your kind appreciation of compliments from you here, my good flickr friends !!!
