The wind is usually between NW and SW here. When there is extreme weather on the Atlantic, we have these kind of skies here a week later.

When in Mykonos, Greece, you must visit the Church of Panagia Paraportiani. It is a beautiful and very interesting church set alongside the Aegean Sea.

I was supposed to go to the dentist for a cleaning eight months ago. I didn't.

Then I broke a tooth.

The dentist knows me very well. He knows I only call when there is an emergency. I think he must have my name penciled in, just in case, because he always fits me in.

What is most awesome is that I endured the visit sans Novocaine. What up, bitches?

When I saw this girl at a beach in Thailand, I suddenly remembered how much I loved in my childhood the movies of Esther Williams.

In a split second I was back in the cinema and saw my father sitting next to me....he liked her movies too :)

Esther Williams was famous as Hollywood's mermaid, the movie star who swam her way to popularity in MGM movies. For ten years (1950-1960) she was a huge star at the box-office, and outgrossed several more famous actresses by a large margin.

(according to the world of Cupcake)

When the will, in becoming aware of the satisfaction afforded by the object of sight, hearing, or touch, does not stop with this joy but immediately elevates itself to God, rejoicing in Him who motivates and gives strength to its joy, it is doing something very good. The will, then, does not have to avoid such experiences when they produce this devotion and prayer, but it can profit by them, and even ought to for the sake of so holy an exercise. For there are souls who are greatly moved toward God by sensible objects.

-St. John of the Cross

When words become unclear, I shall focus with photographs.

When images become inadequate, I shall be content with silence.

~Ansel Adams

To make someone feel, make someone relate, make someone think - this is the beauty of it all. Making some sort of an impact has and always will be my purpose in why I take photographs.

I believe as photographers, we all have a story to tell of why or how we got into photography.

2006.

A year that dramatically altered my perspective on life and the spark that ignited my passion for photography.

It was during that year,‭ ‬two people who meant the world to me passed away‭ ‬8‭ ‬months apart from each other. Never had I anticipated experiencing death at such a rapid rate.‭ ‬Emotional turmoil took over and depression became a part of me.‭ ‬I was no longer the same person, I was filled with denial, pain and sadness. I felt numb to the world and every person in it. I was in a constant battle with my emotions, not knowing where to turn for support in such a difficult time.

For months I had obsessively been glancing at sites that contained photography from Deviant Art photographers.‭ ‬With every picture that came across my eye while scrolling down the pages,‭ ‬a lightning bolt of questions and curiosity struck me:‭ “‬How can someone capture something so beautiful in such a short amount of time‭?”‬ The fact that each photograph was unique and held a different view fascinated me.‭ ‬I quickly aspired to experiment with taking pictures.‭ Due to such a powerful curiosity,‭ ‬I'm sure you can imagine the delight that filled me when I got my first camera - a Canon Powershot - as a present for Christmas.‭ ‬Little did I know that what I first deemed as an‭ “‬experiment‭”‬ would within time turn into an escape,‭ ‬a passion that would heal me greatly.‭

‭I began to feel the world looked so much more beautiful when I looked at it through a camera's viewfinder. Every day I would be out in my backyard taking photographs, and in those moments capturing what surrounded me, I didn't feel pain. I didn't feel sadness. I didn't feel numb - I felt peace. Taking photographs made me rediscover who I was as a person. My camera became my greatest friend who knew all my secrets and witnessed me metamorphosis.

‭It's hard to believe it's been 3 years.

Being a part of Flickr has been such an uplifting experience for me.

‭Three years ago, I never would have imagined gaining such inspiration, support and friendship from so many extraordinary people. For that and so much more, I am forever grateful.

Gainesville Florida 11/11/25

When I can witness moments like these, just before sunrise, I experience them in every fibre of my being.

Shocked and saddened by the sad news of the earthquake centered in Chengdu, our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of our Chinese daughter, from Chengdu. Nine years ago, we dodged disaster when the top 50 feet of a rotten Doug Fir gave way and fell on our family during a hike, Liu Yang, (aka "Janet") then 16, suffered only a small gash in her head. Here she is comforted by my wife, Kathleen, as they sit amidst the tree debris in the Salmon River, awaiting the arrival of rescue workers. Fate is arbitrary and capricous. That tree could have crushed us all, or it could have stayed put up in the forest canopy. Only Janet, Jack and Sadie the dog were along the river bank when the tree fell--other dawdlers had stopped on the trail for a rest break. Jack and Sadie jumped away and the big limbs and branches fell all around Janet, missing her mostly, and leaving only a small wound that required just a few stitches. Conclusions? Hard to come by. Except that for any of us, at any time, death can come in an instant. But if it isn't time for your number to come up, you're good to go, through almost anything.

For a long time the ex Reserve SD9's reigned supreme on E&LS. Here's 1223 and 1221 on a 51 car freight at Green Bay on August 23, 1993.

The 920th Rescue Wing hovers over the Atlantic with the kind of calm intensity that only comes from crews who train for chaos. The HH‑60 Pave Hawk kicks up a violent halo of spray as it holds position above the water, the kind of precision hover that looks effortless only because the people inside have spent their careers mastering the impossible.

A small vessel sits in the background, half‑lost in mist and motion a reminder that not every mission starts clean, but every one of theirs ends with someone getting home. Shot at the 2026 Cocoa Beach Air Show, this frame captures the raw, unfiltered reality of rescue aviation: no glamour, no theatrics, just professionals doing what they do when everything else goes sideways.

When it was my birthday six months ago, a very dear friend who enjoys photography as much as I do, and knows that I collect beautiful and vintage pieces, gave me a wonderful selection of antique ribbons, buttons, buckles, lace and other fine notions. She also gave me three follow up tins of similar delightful gifts for Christmas.

Those wonderful gifts are what has inspired me to create this series of "Embroider my World" images featuring my vintage bobbin collection. In this case, the wonderfully delicate net baric embroidered with minute blue and pale pink sequins I bought yesterday from a shop that specialises in luxurious and unusual fabrics. I could hardly wait to use it! The fabric was manufactured in Milan. I have accessorised them on a 1930s embroidered tablecloth with two Dewhurst's Sylko Peach Rose reels of cotton which dates from between 1938 and 1954 and a small Edwardian cotton reel of soft Kingfisher Blue made by J. P. Coats.

Belle Vue Mill, commonly known as Dewhurst’s, was built by Thomas Dewhurst in 1828. It opened in 1829 as John Dewhurst & Sons and was one of Skipton’s largest spinning and weaving mills. The mill’s position next to the Leeds Liverpool Canal meant that raw cotton could be shipped in by boats from Liverpool. Finished goods would then be sent back the same way ready for distribution. Coal to power the machine’s steam engines was also delivered by barge. In 1897 Dewhurst’s was bought by the English Sewing Cotton Co. It continued to produce Sylko, one of the mill’s most famous products. It was produced in over 500 colours and sold throughout the world. Sylko cottons are still available at haberdashers today.

In 1802 James Coats set up a weaving business in Paisley. In 1826 he opened a cotton mill at Ferguslie to produce his own thread and, when he retired in 1830, his sons, James & Peter, took up the business under the name of J. & P. Coats. In 1952 J. & P. Coats and the Clark Thread Co. merged to become Coats & Clark's. Today, the business is known as the Coats Group.

When yealrings are around, sometimes they run around playing with other yearling cubs and sometimes they stick close to their moms ... for protection and food ... and for teachable moments. Here the sow finds a salmon to eat and begins to share it with her cub. She pats it on the head in some sort of gesture. What do you think is the meaning of this?

It's all about forgetting rather than remembrance.

Another shot from a recent visit to the paisley anchor mill at the hamills

Taken just before the heavens opened up

The Anchor Mill stands as a proud reminder of Paisley's great industrial heritage. Located at the Hammills on the White Cart River, this landmark Grade A listed Domestic Finishing Mill was built in 1886 and is one of the few remaining buildings of the Anchor Mill complex.

At the centre of the building is the elegant, 4 storied, sun-lit Atrium.

When a flock of flamingoes rise up from slumber they stretch up to determine dominance. A “flock” of flamingos is actually incorrect, but is also the most common term used. There are also others such as stand, colony, regiment, and my favorite—a flamboyance! A flamboyance of flamingos. San Diego Safari Park in San Pascal, California.
