When photographing the yellow shafted northern flicker at the Yakima Area Arboretum some of these cedar waxwings landed almost within arms length and several flew by very close. I was almost afraid the one would hit me. There are several hundred in the area eating crabapples from the flowering crabapple trees. I also saw several at Sportsman State Park.

The oldest existing class Tk3 light-duty freight locomotive sits on its permanent resting place near Pieksämäki railway station as a memorial locomotive. Despite it being over 90 years old and covered in rust and dust, the beautiful locomotive shines the best when the sunset gives it the spotlight.
You go with it and enhance that gloom even Moore, A trip up to Halnaker windmill on a misty day when the all surrounding views are shrouded in gloom, you just make the most of what you have to work with, in this case I thought a mono conversion would be the way.
The darker semi circle on the left is where the grass has been worn down by people as they wander around so I enhanced that by a dodging and burning layer.
Hope everyone has a nice day tomorrow i`ll be back later in the week, Happy Christmas all.

This is an example of miniature drama playing out in millions of flowers this time of year. This Goldenrod Crab Spider is making a dietary decision that could be life-altering. "To eat, or not to eat this plaster bee family member?"
This is a panorama version stitched from 4 single shots taken with portrait orientation.
I started a series with the title »When the night comes« at early winter 2013. The first 5 shots were taken at a wonderful night at Herzogstand, Bavaria. Now having some similar shots taken at another region (regarding conditons of taking the photos), I thought it could be senseful to proceed that series.
This one was made at the summit of Sonnjoch, Karwendel, where I went up in the evening to stay there with my tent. View goes to main chain of Karwendel, but most of the summits were still covered with clouds at that time.
Regarding the title:
Taking the first shots of that series, I had the beautiful song »When the night comes« in my head, written 1991 by Inga Rumpf with here band »Frumpy«. It was fitting perfect to the atmosphere with both dynamic rythmics and romantic mood.

Linus loves to be high up and watch over HIS kingdom (Cleo and Fynn think he is megalomaniac). I guess it's also nice to be closer to the birds that way. :)

QUANDO SCALAMMO LA MONTAGNA DEL SERPENTE
Cercando stabili appigli
per le mie mani
tocco la calda roccia
e scalando sento la montagna.
Qui, da qualche parte,
su una pietra al sole,
dorme il serpente giallo maculato.
Fate attenzione,
dico agli altri,
a non calpestare il giallo serpente maculato,
esso vive qua.
La montagna gli appartiene.

WHEN WE CLIMBED SNAKE MOUNTAIN
Looking for stable footholds
for my hands
I touch the warm rock
and while climbing I feel the mountain.
Here, somewhere,
on a stone in the sun,
the spotted yellow snake sleeps.
Be careful,
I tell others,
not to step on the yellow spotted snake,
it lives here.
The mountain belongs to him.

When I was growing up and would always go out railfanning with my dad, we would usually hit up BNSF's coal line northeast of Denver (Brush Sub) or the UP line to Cheyenne (Greeley Sub). Visiting the Brush Sub was always a favorite because we both loved coal trains and today I still do. Power at the time was mostly SD70MACs with an occasional AC4400CW. As time progressed on, power slowly became more GEVO and SD70ACe dominant with the occasional SD70MAC. Yesterday, I was out in Northeastern Colorado looking for storms, which nothing really initiated as forecasted. However, after arriving back into Sterling, I noticed an outbound crew getting onto a loaded coal train led by a solid set of Heritage II painted SD70MACs. I already knew I had to chase this back west into the late afternoon/evening sun. Chasing this lash-up certainly brought back some memories.
After waiting for an eastbound to get onto the Akron Sub, BNSF SD70MAC No. 8963 leads this westbound loaded coal train out of Brush, Colorado, into the evening setting sun on August 14, 2019.

To make someone feel, make someone relate, make someone think - this is the beauty of it all. Making some sort of an impact has and always will be my purpose in why I take photographs.
I believe as photographers, we all have a story to tell of why or how we got into photography.
2006.
A year that dramatically altered my perspective on life and the spark that ignited my passion for photography.
It was during that year, two people who meant the world to me passed away 8 months apart from each other. Never had I anticipated experiencing death at such a rapid rate. Emotional turmoil took over and depression became a part of me. I was no longer the same person, I was filled with denial, pain and sadness. I felt numb to the world and every person in it. I was in a constant battle with my emotions, not knowing where to turn for support in such a difficult time.
For months I had obsessively been glancing at sites that contained photography from Deviant Art photographers. With every picture that came across my eye while scrolling down the pages, a lightning bolt of questions and curiosity struck me: “How can someone capture something so beautiful in such a short amount of time?” The fact that each photograph was unique and held a different view fascinated me. I quickly aspired to experiment with taking pictures. Due to such a powerful curiosity, I'm sure you can imagine the delight that filled me when I got my first camera - a Canon Powershot - as a present for Christmas. Little did I know that what I first deemed as an “experiment” would within time turn into an escape, a passion that would heal me greatly.
I began to feel the world looked so much more beautiful when I looked at it through a camera's viewfinder. Every day I would be out in my backyard taking photographs, and in those moments capturing what surrounded me, I didn't feel pain. I didn't feel sadness. I didn't feel numb - I felt peace. Taking photographs made me rediscover who I was as a person. My camera became my greatest friend who knew all my secrets and witnessed me metamorphosis.
It's hard to believe it's been 3 years.
Being a part of Flickr has been such an uplifting experience for me.
Three years ago, I never would have imagined gaining such inspiration, support and friendship from so many extraordinary people. For that and so much more, I am forever grateful.
Photography is a true saving grace.
When I can witness moments like these, just before sunrise, I experience them in every fibre of my being.

“I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you simply, without problems or pride: I love you in this way because I do not know any other way of loving but this, in which there is no I or you, so intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand, so intimate that when I fall asleep your eyes close.”

Most azaleas we are familiar with today are descended from Asian shrubs, and were originally cultivated by monks of the Buddhist monasteries. When seeds of the Rhododendron luteum were sent to England from the shores of the Black Sea, it became parent to many azalea hybrids.
Azaleas have been hybridized for hundreds of years. Over 10,000 different azalea plants have been registered or named.

She sat alone behind the glass, mid-sentence, mid-thought — mid-something I’ll never fully know.
The gesture could’ve meant anything: surprise, a sudden memory, an unsent kiss. The moment was gone as quickly as it appeared, but for a fraction of a second, everything aligned — her gaze, the reflection, the pause in the air.
It’s not a sharp photo, technically. But that’s part of its truth. Some moments don’t come in focus — they arrive in a blur, in a rush, in the hush between words.
And sometimes, that’s when they feel most real.
