When it was my birthday six months ago, a very dear friend who enjoys photography as much as I do, and knows that I collect beautiful and vintage pieces, gave me a wonderful selection of antique ribbons, buttons, buckles, lace and other fine notions. She also gave me three follow up tins of similar delightful gifts for Christmas.
Those wonderful gifts are what has inspired me to create this series of "Embroider my World" images featuring my vintage bobbin collection. In this case, the wonderfully delicate net baric embroidered with minute blue and pale pink sequins I bought yesterday from a shop that specialises in luxurious and unusual fabrics. I could hardly wait to use it! The fabric was manufactured in Milan. I have accessorised them on a 1930s embroidered tablecloth with two Dewhurst's Sylko Peach Rose reels of cotton which dates from between 1938 and 1954 and a small Edwardian cotton reel of soft Kingfisher Blue made by J. P. Coats.
Belle Vue Mill, commonly known as Dewhurst’s, was built by Thomas Dewhurst in 1828. It opened in 1829 as John Dewhurst & Sons and was one of Skipton’s largest spinning and weaving mills. The mill’s position next to the Leeds Liverpool Canal meant that raw cotton could be shipped in by boats from Liverpool. Finished goods would then be sent back the same way ready for distribution. Coal to power the machine’s steam engines was also delivered by barge. In 1897 Dewhurst’s was bought by the English Sewing Cotton Co. It continued to produce Sylko, one of the mill’s most famous products. It was produced in over 500 colours and sold throughout the world. Sylko cottons are still available at haberdashers today.
In 1802 James Coats set up a weaving business in Paisley. In 1826 he opened a cotton mill at Ferguslie to produce his own thread and, when he retired in 1830, his sons, James & Peter, took up the business under the name of J. & P. Coats. In 1952 J. & P. Coats and the Clark Thread Co. merged to become Coats & Clark's. Today, the business is known as the Coats Group.
After posting a recent image where it`s brown grass and dust I looked back to find an image where the grass was still green and as it should be. Just a little different now .

...When you are old enough to read these words
Their meaning will unfold
These words are all that's left
And though we've never met, my only sun
I hope you know
That I would have been there to watch you grow
But my call was heard and I did go
Now your mission lies ahead of you
As it did my so long ago
To help the helpless ones who all look up to you
And to defend them to the end
Ride like the wind
Fight proud, my son
You're the defender
God has sent
Father,father,father
I look up to you and heed thy call
This letter ends my search
I'll live your dream now passed on to me
And I now wait to shake the hand of fate
Like the dusk awaiting dawn
So wizards cast your spell
With no heart to do me well
So it is written, it shall be
Defender...
Another shot from a recent visit to the paisley anchor mill at the hamills
Taken just before the heavens opened up
The Anchor Mill stands as a proud reminder of Paisley's great industrial heritage. Located at the Hammills on the White Cart River, this landmark Grade A listed Domestic Finishing Mill was built in 1886 and is one of the few remaining buildings of the Anchor Mill complex.
At the centre of the building is the elegant, 4 storied, sun-lit Atrium.
Berwick Bridge, also known as the Old Bridge, spans the River Tweed in Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland, England. The current structure is a Grade I listed stone bridge built between 1611 and 1624.
The bridge is now one way, from east to west. A short distance upstream is the Royal Tweed Bridge, which succeeded the Berwick Bridge as the main road crossing of the Tweed at Berwick when it opened in 1928. In 1984, the A1 River Tweed Bridge opened about a mile to the west of Berwick, carrying the A1 road around the town. The railway through Berwick is carried on the Royal Border Bridge, slightly further upstream from the two road bridges.
When I saw this explosion of clouds and standing in the wildness just to enjoy this view and forgotten to click my camera. Luckily, I did manage to get a picture of this beautiful image which mother nature gifted to us.
In a time when Santa Fe was a called a 'small town', and things of the world were black and white.
'way out Cerrillos Road, a scant mile from a service station where we went once for water to make our beer, because they had a well (city water was not available that far out).
This was our pride and joy for less than a year, when the kinfolks lured us back to Texas.
I visit this place whenever I'm in Santa Fe. The old neighborhood looks a little run down nowadays, and the streets are filled with parked cars which overflow the single garages and driveways now.
The view across the vast prairie back to Rodeo Road and beyond is filled with houses now, and the prairie dogs that once inhabited the area, I'm sure have long since abandoned the place.
We were a nice, friendly bunch of young homeowners back then, though.
Nostalgia is an old man's pleasure.

When not on my wrist he lives on my window cill (how I'm used to seeing it spelled) this 'ancient' Citizen Eco-drive. He must be over 30 by now and still taking his charge from any light source and keeping good time too.
Once upon a dream, I was dying for you
Tating only sweet, drinking memories of you
Your hand touches my cheek as you whisper softly
Don't forget to breathe
Our love will be redeemed
And when you take my hand
You'll know exactly where I am
A toast to starry nights, seeking comfort divine
Celebrating life, swimming circles in light
And I look to the sea and hear you calling softly
Don't forget to breathe
Our love will be redeemed
And when you take my hand
You'll know exactly where I am
I hear you calling to me
See you but you can't see me
We never said our goodbyes
So dark and lonely your eyes
You'll always be in my heart
There is no death to us part
Don't forget to breathe
Our love will be redeemed
And when you take my hand
You'll know exactly where I am
You'll know exactly where I am
I rescued this large mirror from a wall at my church that was torn down a few months ago. I saved it for a friend who wanted it for her living room. It needed a frame, so I made one for it and stained it blue, her favorite color. I had put a lot of work into learning how to make this frame for the glass, and then putting it all together. It sat in my living room for two weeks, finished and ready to be delivered. But, Saturday morning, just 24 hours from delivering it to my friend who was so excited to be finally getting it, it fell. This was one of those little events in life that makes you scratch your head. I have no idea what made it fall, or why it decided to move itself from the wall it was leaning against and topple over to its end. TJ and Neko were standing in front of it, not touching it, and ran for their lives! They escaped, but were frightened to the core. This is the only photo I have of the project, and the way it turned out, and perhaps that's a good thing. I saved the frame in hopes of finding a piece of mirror the same size or larger that could maybe be cut to fit.

the cold of winter to give it sweetness."

..."Possessing all the beauty
Hungry still for more
Heaven holds a sense of wonder
And I wanted to believe
that I'd get caught up
when the rage in me subsides
In this white wave
I am sinking
in
this
silence
In this white wave
in this silence
I believe
I can't help this longing
Comfort me"...

when i lived in california i used to go to the lake 3 to 4 times a week in the early morning hours with 4 lbs of peanuts. i loved spending my mornings with these guys, they're so friendly and social.
When taking this photograph, I wanted to highlight an ancient cultural heritage preserved thanks to funding provided by mass tourism, whose presence can be seen through the window.

... I had way too many plush toys (and still have)
... my best friend and protector was a dog, we got as puppy when I was three
... I played under the trees, that are reflected in the eyes
This is a 11 cm plush dog from Steiff I had as child.
When I was little, I got runway and runaway confused. Of course, I was positive it was runaway. This was my attempt at one of those wind-blow hair shots. It's sort of ridiculous, but I kinda like it for that. Oh, and I discovered that it's really hard to keep your eyes open while you have a blow dryer pointed directly at your face....haha.
