The Springfield Firehouse circa 1950 & now - 72 Caldwell Place, Springfield, New Jersey
It seemed to me like this would be a good time to scan the pics from my mother's attic, and I ran cross this pic her brother took of the Springfield firehouse circa 1950.
I thought it might be fun to see what it looked like today, so I dropped google-boy down on Brook Street (where my uncle stood to take his picture of the firehouse), to see what it looked like today.
I don't generally think of trees as temporary,
but when you think about it, all living things are temporary.
Some more than others . . .
The mice may not win the battle with the soldiers, but Molly did have a small victory along the way.

The birds and kite-flyer flying a bird-kite are cut in a temporary paper window covering. I put that up for while i'm getting settled so I can have some privacy The birds are holes so curious passers-by can peek through.
When direct light comes through the bird-shaped holes in the paper window coverings, it casts these light-shapes on the adjacent window.
I love how the birds swoop around, flying in always changing spirals as the sun moves across the sky.

In a display case at the Horniman Museum in South London is a temporarily removed notification, indicating that three palm fruit fossils are missing from display, the card is dated 1995 and signed by L.A.Patrick. The fossils have been temporarily removed for 21 years (currently), I was momentarily piqued until I reaslied that the Eocene epoch lasted from 56 to 33.9 million years before the present (BP). Temporary, removed and missing are relative.
The statue of Peter Stuyvesant by Massey Rind was ripped off of its pedestal in Bergen Square by the Board of Education and earmarked to be installed in this small park a block away. Unusal for Jersey City there was a public uproar and the city announced plans to recreate the original 1910 base in Bergen Square, the historic center of the city. For now the sculpture has been restored and is currently occupying the place the Board intended it to. Keep in mind the temporary Guastavino tile dome at St. John the Divine was completed in 1909 and is still there.

No. 2.4: Here stood from 1861 to 1883 the as Schmerling Theater ironized Provisional Chamber of Deputies of the Imperial Council, to 1866 Parliament of the totality of the monarchy, from 1867 only of the kingdoms and lands represented in the Imperial Council. The Imperial Council decided in 1867 the December Constitution which was valid until the end of the Austrian monarchy in 1918.

The Imperial Council called Parliament, as it existed in the Empire of Austria and since 1867 in the Austrian half of Austria-Hungary, was with the by the Emperor Franz Joseph I issued, called February Patent, Constitution of 1861 founded and in the December Constitution 1867 confirmed.
Since in 1861 no parliament building existed, urgently temporaries had to be created. The temporary building for the House of Representatives of the Reichsrat in Vienna was according to the Prime Minister Anton von Schmerling somewhat disrespectfully called Schmerling theater. The more scornful name was "shack". The other chamber of the Reichsrat, the House of the Lords, used as a meeting place the historic Landhaus (State Parliament) in the Herrengasse (street of the Lords) 13 in the Old Town, the venue of the State Parliament of Austria below the Enns.
The temporary for the Chamber of Deputies was built by the architect Ferdinand Fellner in Währing street 2-6 (opposite the site of the square dominanting Votive Church, just one block away from the Ring Road). Start of the construction of the two-storey timber-framed (Riegelwand - latch wall) building was on 12 March 1861. After just six weeks, stood the construction and was on April 25, 1861 turnkey ready. In this short time were about 500 workers busy day and night; night shifts were performed at torchlight.
The basic concept of the building with the ramp and the vestibule, through which one entered the boardroom, already corresponded to the later Parliament Building. The emperor's box also had to be included. The building was used by the House of Representatives until the completion of the current Parliament, in 1883.

Das Reichsrat genannte Parlament, wie es im Kaisertum Österreich und seit 1867 in der österreichischen Reichshälfte Österreich-Ungarns bestand, wurde mit der von Kaiser Franz Joseph I. erlassenen, Februarpatent genannten Verfassung von 1861 begründet und in der Dezemberverfassung 1867 bestätigt.
Da 1861 kein Parlamentsgebäude bestand, mussten dringend Provisorien geschaffen werden. Der provisorische Bau für das Abgeordnetenhaus des Reichsrats in Wien wurde nach dem Ministerpräsidenten Anton von Schmerling etwas despektierlich Schmerlingtheater genannt. Der noch spöttischere Name war „Bretterbude“. Die andere Kammer des Reichsrats, das Herrenhaus, nutzte als Versammlungsort das historische Landhaus in der Herrengasse 13 in der Altstadt, Tagungsort des Landtags von Österreich unter der Enns.
Das Provisorium für das Abgeordnetenhaus wurde vom Architekten Ferdinand Fellner in der Währinger Straße 2–6 (gegenüber der Baustelle der den Platz beherrschenden Votivkirche, nur einen Häuserblock von der Ringstraße entfernt) errichtet. Baubeginn des zweigeschoßigen Riegelwandbaus war am 12. März 1861. Nach nur sechs Wochen stand der Bau und war am 25. April 1861 schlüsselfertig. In dieser kurzen Zeit waren an die 500 Arbeiter Tag und Nacht beschäftigt; Nachtschichten wurden bei Fackelbeleuchtung durchgeführt.
Das Grundkonzept des Gebäudes mit der Rampe und der Vorhalle, durch die man in den Sitzungssaal kam, entsprach schon dem späteren Parlamentsgebäude. Auch die Kaiserloge durfte nicht fehlen. Das Gebäude wurde vom Abgeordnetenhaus bis zur Fertigstellung des heutigen Parlaments, 1883, benützt.
