Great big ride temporarily grounded due to the loss of a mystery metric check-valve component maybe 12mm in diameter. The ride was built in Germany in 1967. By coincidence, the check valve is stamped "Chicago".
The hunt is on.

After the winds, came the rain. We got completely soaked this morning, and then spotted rivers running down each side of the road. At the top, we discovered why - presumably the drains are overwhelmed, so water is bubbling up and causing a geyser to erupt in the middle of the road.

I got an airbrush tattoo at Hollywood Beach, Florida. It's supposed to last for two weeks. I love it!
I was walking alone on the beach at Naval Station Mayport in Florida. I was down on temporary duty from Norfolk to teach a writing class, and the stormy skies reflected my mood nicely. I had not been selected for advancement and, only an hour later, I learned my uncle had died. While walking I discovered these abandoned sunglasses sitting right here, just out of the reach of the surf. There were no profound moments of revelation or sounds of the sky spilitting asunder as angelic hosts descended to bestow upon my some new purpose in life. There was only the surf, wind and these glasses. I spent some time just staring at them, wondering about the story of their owner. Here is a piece of some unknown person's life briefly intersecting mine, yet I will never know anything about this mysterious "them" (other than their apparent preference in sunglasses styling). Something in this whole scene really struck me on a profound level, but I still cannot identify exactly what. After ten or fifteen minutes, I put the camera on the sand and opened the shutter to get this exposure. Then, in the interest of keeping the beach clean, I promptly threw them away in a near-by, clearly-marked trash receptacle. (Mayport, Fla., 1 August 2013. Nathanael Miller)
