The statue of Peter Stuyvesant by Massey Rind was ripped off of its pedestal in Bergen Square by the Board of Education and earmarked to be installed in this small park a block away. Unusal for Jersey City there was a public uproar and the city announced plans to recreate the original 1910 base in Bergen Square, the historic center of the city. For now the sculpture has been restored and is currently occupying the place the Board intended it to. Keep in mind the temporary Guastavino tile dome at St. John the Divine was completed in 1909 and is still there.
