Also, goodbye old point and shoot...
New radius link bearings. Made from blocks of bronze cut from a solid rod. Originals in the lower left.
Drei Annen Hohne junction station of the narrow gauge Brockenbahn. The Harzer Schmalspurbahnen / HSB maintains 9 steamengines in the regular daily schedule - this is not a special trip, just a regular ride
One of the best smells on the planet - steam engine. Second only to Castrol R I reckon in the top ten of wonderful whiffs, I was downwind of yonder puffer here and made the most of it, sucking up gert lungfuls of the smell of steam, hot oil and grease.
Tower Bridge. This was one of two steam engines used to raise the bascules of the bridge before it was converted to electric power. It is now preserved in its original location in the Tower Bridge exhibition and open to the public.
Diver's controls, Denver &Rio Grande class K-28 no 473. I don't know that most of the valves do but I can identify the regulator (with ratchet), the reverser, maybe the sanders valve (bottom right), the train air brake (above and to the left of that), and maybe the loco air brake (to the left of the reverser lever). Whistle lanyard top right.
Caledonian Railway No.828 climbs Eardington Bank with the 1210 Kidderminster to Bridgnorth at the Severn Valley Railway's Autumn Gala on September 24 2011. The loco was on loan from the Strathspey Railway.
My son bought a model steam engine that was unfortunately incomplete. The safety valve I made for it is a copy from Wilesco except for the 6x0.75 fine thread where it screws onto the boiler. Wilesco have M6 standard thread. The next photo is the piston assembly I made that works for his machine, perhaps it will help a father on a similar mission for his son.
The chimney is not original made from a length of 15mm central heating pipe.
In stark contrast to the other photograph of this engine in this series, Southern Region rebuilt Bulleid 'West Country' pacific No. 34100 Appledore photographed from a moving train near Basingstoke; now sadly neglected since its transfer from Stewarts Lane and service on the Golden Arrow. (Note damage to the running plate around the cylinder)
Camera - Braun Paxette
Film - Adox KB17.
Tornado is the first steam engine of its kind to be newly built in England since the 1960s. I have recently travelled on a train pulled by this amazing engine at a steam gala, and it was a fantastic experience! I thought the picture would make the perfect background for a birthday card aimed at men, with a quilled birthday candle in metallic gun-metal grey to match.
Model railroad built by noted wildlife artist Lee Jaques. The scale is O, but the track is S-gauge which makes the trains On3 1/2. It was featured in the May 1962 issue of Model Railroader.
