RHUMBA is a mixed media statement necklace made using bits of new and vintage jewelry and found objects. It all started with the pretty angel fish pendant and went from there. The color palette of gold, tangerine orange and lime green brings to mind lounging on a tropical beach - preferably with a fancy cocktail in-hand!
Besides the angel fish pendant, other items (all reclaimed!) used in the making of "Angel Fish Rumba" include: vintage chain, vintage filigree drops, vintage filigree bead caps, vintage acrylic beads in shades of tangerine and lime green, gold tone spacer beads and a necklace centerpiece. The necklace can be worn in lengths ranging from 16" to 19" but the length can be extended upon request.

They are accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity allegedly committed in the Central African Republic.

MISSION STATEMENT
To establish a public center for programs, artifacts and exhibits reflecting local history and heritage; to perpetuate our Slate Belt heritage through educational programs relating to ethnic contributions, industry, and history, so that future generations can appreciate our valued past; to preserve and utilize historic Bangor Town Hall as the Heritage Center, meeting place and museum.
The Slate Belt Heritage Center serves the 10 municipalities of Slate Belt. Municipalities include the boroughs of Bangor, East Bangor, Pen Argyl, Portland, Roseto, Wind Gap, Lower Mt. Bethel Township, Upper Mt. Bethel Township, Plainfield Township and Washington Township. The Heritage Center consists of 9 rooms: Chamber, Slate Room, Cornish Room, Welsh Room, Flicksville Room, Homefront Room, Italian Room, Textile Room and the Fire Engine Room. Each room displays, through exhibits and artifacts, the unique quality of Slate Belt ethnicity or industry. Room exhibits change to keep a fresh look for our visitors. The Chamber is the original Bangor Borough Council meeting room, where the Center holds meetings, public presentations and displays changing, topical exhibits.

ARTIST STATEMENT:
During the process of this piece, I researched the artist Felix Gonzalez-Torres, because this year I began working with gummy bears in my sculptural pieces and he creates works with candy also. I was interested on how Felix used candy in a different context and wanted to play with that idea.
In this piece you see here, I made four big lollipops out of regular sized hospital lollipops. I duplicated one person to show that this group is equal in size, strength, speed and everything that has to do with a person finishing a lollipop. The lollipops in this piece represent time.
When sculpting, I love to use materials that are difficult and candy is definitely difficult when you’re not just consuming them through your mouth. I would like thank New Urban Arts for giving me opportunities for the start of a successful art career which I hope to pursue.
ARTIST BIO:
Michi Olivo is a mixed media artist who recently graduated from high school. She completed the School of the Museum of Fine Arts pre-college program in Boston on full scholarship this summer. She was born and raised in Rhode Island where she is a Studio Team Advisory Board member and active artmaker at New Urban Arts. She will be attending Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) this year and continuing with her active artistic practice. She hopes to transfer to an art school next year.
The final piece of my wire and yarn jewellery, using Rowan yarn kidsilk haze in both anthracite and smoke, as well as 0.315 silver plated jewellery wire.
This piece has won me £200 worth of yarn from Rowan Yarns and they want to buy the pattern for £100 :)
