There is a moment when power turns inward.

The Weight That Looks Back captures the instant authority ceases to perform and begins to reckon. The figure is not hiding—she is pressing against herself, feeling the residue of decisions made while crowned.

The metallic skin suggests preservation, not strength. Power hardens what it touches. Over time, it replaces warmth with permanence, movement with monument.

The crown remains, not as triumph, but as pressure—an object that does not leave simply because belief has faded.

This work is about leadership after myth, identity after role, and the quiet violence of being seen as untouchable for too long

Statement

My digital portfolio contains work I have produced over the past 5 months from my foundation at MMU. I have particularly enjoyed creating the Urban Threads print work as I have never explored print making before and my results motivated me to create more as I really enjoyed working in this way and combining lots of materials and processes to create a piece. I also loved this project as I became obsessed with showing my environment in the light which I wanted to and worked with numerous materials and media until I achieved the outcome I was aiming for. On my foundation I have also worked on projects which I could never have thought of myself doing 5 months back. This has really helped my see my creativity expanding, giving me such great excitement to start my degree. The Fashionometry project was one of these which really stretched me to explore structures and geometry and how to incorporate that into textiles, which extremely intrigued me and my research into this topic introduced me to some inspiring artists and designers. Within my latest project where I am studying Rust, I have become obsessed with colours and achieving correct colour pallets which has made me question which materials work well with which way of creating colour, whether that may be with paint or mixing unconventional things like paprika and water. Looking over my portfolio has confirmed that Textiles is more than a passion to me and I know that this is where all my interests revert to. I have definitely become more virulent and sensitive to creating art from everyday materials and finding inspiration everywhere.
