Filou in seinem Körbchen - Filou in his basket
Filou ist in seinem zehnten Jahr bei uns und ein voll kommendes Familienmitglied. Er war und wird auch immer ein treuer Begleiter für uns sein, der auf uns aufpasste und noch aufpassen möchte.
Lächerliche 17 Tage war er in diesen Jahren bei meiner Schwester in Urlaubspflege, sonst immer bei uns. Reisen im Flugzeug wollten wir ihm ersparen. Dafür mussten wir viele Kilometer mit dem Auto zurücklegen, er war und ist es uns Wert.
Hier ist der Haken an dieser kleinen Geschichte … er kann nicht mehr wie er möchte. Seine Arthrose macht sich immer stärker bemerkbar, Bilder mit Filou in Aktion sind schon seit Jahren nicht mehr machbar.
Es wird für uns Zeit unseren treuen Begleiter zu beschützen und vielmehr vor sich selber zu schützen, er möchte uns imponieren, kann es aber leider nicht mehr und bricht von schmerzen geplagt zusammen wie ein kleiner Welpe der müde ist.
Wir werden ihn beschützen und schützen … versprochen …
Filou is in his tenth year with us and is a full-fledged member of the family. He was and will always be a loyal companion for us, who looked after us and still wants to look after us.
During these years he was with my sister for a ridiculous 17 days in holiday care, otherwise he was always with us. We wanted to spare him from travelling by plane. To do this we had to travel many kilometres by car, he was and is worth it to us.
Here is the catch in this little story... he can no longer do what he wants. His arthritis is becoming more and more noticeable, and we have not been able to take pictures of Filou in action for years.
It is time for us to protect our loyal companion and, more importantly, to protect him from himself. He wants to impress us, but unfortunately can no longer do so and collapses in pain like a little puppy who is tired.
We will protect and protect him... promise...

At first I had reservations about photographing the beggar alone. I didn't want to take advantage of his situation and act against my principles. But when the lady next to him entered the stage, everything changed. She stood for maybe everything the beggar did not have: wealth, happiness and the chocolate side of life. This contrast between the two people gave the photo a socially critical expression.
Through this contrast, a message is conveyed to the viewer. The photo shows that life is not fair and that there is a gap between people that cannot always be overcome. It challenges the viewer to think about social conditions and to show solidarity with those who are on the worse side.
Art is also communication. It is not only about visual appeal, but also about making a statement. Contrasts are a powerful tool to create meaning in an image and convey a message. This is exactly what I wanted to show with this photo, which I took in Aix-en-Provence in France in the summer of 2017.
“Posh, I have come to the delusion that the man has gone bonkers.” Said Sky looking around his friends for support of his statement.
“Sky, I think you mean conclusion, but then perhaps not.” Said Bertie smiling at Posh.
“Tell us, Sky, why you have come to that delusion.” Asked Posh smiling.
“Well, he tampers with things he does not understand. I mean, right now he must have been messing about with the round dial that controls the heating and it is out of control. He has turned it up so much that it is heating outside as well as inside the house. It is bonkers hot outside.”
“Yes, Sky, Icecap told me on the teddy-phone this morning that he is not going to come back home until it cools down a lot.” Said Barnaby not wanting to be left out.
“I don’t blame him, for I would ask Ellie to take me out there to stay with Icecap if I thought there was any chance at all he could find where Icecap is again.” Said Sky.
“The man said it was almost forty earlier on, I don’t know what forty is, but if it is that orange round thing in the air, it sounds very old and he needs to think about replacing it. Perhaps that is what is wrong, because it is so old, he has broken the weather with his tampering.” Added Bertie.
“I am sure he knows what he has done, Bertie, how could he not know? It is all right for him, he can take clothes off but us bears stay in our fur, respectable like.” Said Sky.
“Barnaby, did Icecap say if he was enjoying himself in the cold place?” Asked Posh Bear.
“He did, Posh, he said it was lots of fun and he and his friends were doing great long slides the day before we spoke. One slide was so long that he thinks he may have scorched his tail a little. What is scorched, Posh?”
“If something gets too hot it can be scorched, but then if something gets too cold that can also do it. All very strange this hot and cold, they can both do the same thing if they go to extremes.” Explained Posh.
“Posh what are extre…?” Said Barnaby.
“Ssshh, the man is coming, he wants to take out picture. Let us get this over with and then we can all go and borrow Icecap’s cold place in the house. It should be cooler there.” Said Posh Bear.
“This could take a while; look he is trying to get the three-legged thingy sorted out. He has trouble with his own two legs, so with three, he has little chance.” Said Bertie grinning.
“I wouldn’t mind so much if it all ended in a nice picture. Why does his picture taking thingy, flash like that? It is so bright in here I want those blinds closed not light added.” Said Sky shaking his head in dismay.
“He may know what he is doing, Sky.” Said Barnaby wondering if he should mention it.
“I doubt it, Barnaby. He never has in the past. Posh, do you have any spare honey we could take to the cold place as our delivery does not arrive until this afternoon?” Asked Sky.
“I am sure that I can find some for you all, providing a certain bear has not been helping himself without saying.” Said Posh looking at Sky.
“I don’t know why you are all looking at me, I am sure that I have no idea to what Posh is digesting. If there is no honey left, Posh, I think I may know what has happened. You see, with all this hot, things melt and then they can just disappear into the air. I think it is called evacuation or some long word like that.”
“Yes Sky, I am sure you must be right. Come on let us see what honey is left.” Said Posh Bear smiling.
