...that i could make one tiny moment last forever.

...Sometimes you're the fire hydrant.

Monday morning I left home and followed the compass North-Northwest. Heading for Quebec's last frontier -- The Abitibi and Baie James region. For the past two weeks, train 581/580 running between Senneterre and Matagami had GP40-2LW 9454 and SD40-2W 5330 as power. The SD40-2W being a rarity in this part of the country, I decided to take go north and shoot it.

Well, as luck would have it ; 5330 blew an injector the night prior to my arrival, acting as yard engine in the Senneterre yard. Decision was made around noon to swap 5330 with 8931 for the round trip to Matagami. 581 had to wait for the arrival of 578 from Val-d'Or for their replacement unit. Resulting in a minor delay for their departure from Senneterre.

Here is the revised consist of 581, highballing west on the former National Transcontinental Railway at Belcourt, about 30 minutes after sunset -- with a 9000 on the head end and 41 boxcars on the head-pin. For a split second, it almost felt like the glory days of the NTR were back.

The train of course, doesn't have long to run on the NTR, It will leave the high iron at Barraute, heading north on the trunkated Chapais subdivision towards Lebel-sur-Quévillon where the crew will drop their 41 boxcars at the NordicKraft paper mill. Only to run engine light to their final destination at Matagami, where they'd come back with 8 empty cement cars and two empty tank cars the next day.

You can't win them all.

The Atlantic Yellow-nosed Albatross is a relatively small albatross, with a total length of 71–82 cm and a wingspan of 180–215 cm (1). It is slim; the bill is long and thin, with a comparatively narrow yellow band on the culmen. The Atlantic Yellow-nosed Albatross breeds on Tristan da Cunha Island, Nightingale Island, Middle Island, Stoltenhoff Island, Gough Island, and Inaccessible Island. The at-sea range includes the South Atlantic Ocean and offshore South Africa, with increasingly common records off the eastern coast of North America.

Sometimes, there is confusion, something obstructing my views and I need some mental lubrication. Sometimes, the photographic muse just won't kiss me. No good ideas turning up. And then I say something stupid like I love you. And do a photo even worse than that. Fuji X-E2 plus Helios 44M-7 at F11.

When the light and the subject come together in perfect harmony you occasionally take a shot that you really like. This is one of those.

There were a few new young giraffe on the reserve this year and I looked for them daily on our morning drives.

A poem from Areti Fronis

Sometimes

Sometimes I imagine the world

Freezes

I adjust the crooked ties

Kiss lonely lips and replace cigars

with sugar coated, caramel lollipops

I take 10 steps ahead

Hoping that I'm in the lead

Realizing that there is always

someone in front and always

someone behind

But always

Always am I grateful

Grateful for my loved ones

For the tastebuds that I have that allow

me to taste tantalizing bites of

goodness, to hear songbirds sing

and see dusk settle on a weary day

with its illuminated burnt orange colours

Forever

Forever I will cherish the days gone

and the moments that lie ahead - but

forever always begins with today

Sometimes you just have to go with "dainty". Also? Pink. 'Tis Tuesday after all.

These were growing all over the Getty; all over the botanical gardens as well. Small, dainty and oh so delicate. It's a dainty, delicate day on Flickr. At least it is over here.

Wave goodbye

This is for yourwillingskin and her kind words. She made my dreary morning.

Sometimes referred to as Aniseed Boronia. Belongs in the Rutaceae family which is the same as citrus unusually

Sometimes you get blood on your talon ...

Sometimes you stand at the beginning day, reflecting on the glory of nature and how it can touch you deeply. Breathing a deep breath, and just enjoy the moment in time god granted you gaze at this marvel.

Good morning,

Many people who are fortunate enough to go on an African safari spend a lot of time looking for the big cats(lions, leopards , cheetahs) and potentially elephants and rhinos, Others are highly consumed with seeing and photographing the traditional 'Big 5'( lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and rhino). For those who don't know 'The Big Five' is an old term from the bygone era of trophy hunting. Thankfully, it's a term that has often been replaced in the modern world.

While there's nothing wrong with trying to see either of the above groups of animals, soley doing so means you miss a lot of other really interesting and worthy sightings and potential images. One such example is this spotted hyena who I was lucky enough to see and photograph on my last visit to the Maasai Mara in Kenya. On this occasion, I was even lucky enough to get a quick glimpse right at the camera. Hyenas are not only well known scanvengers but also the second largest predator in all of Africa after the lion.

I always try and photograph as much diversity when I travel, be it ecological or cultural to get as holistic a representation of a region as possible.

Have a great Tuesday everyone.

Sometimes the light tries to bend away

Sometimes you're thrust against the wall

Sometimes the world wants to see you crawl

And you can't decide if it's enough

Should be enough for us to be as one

sometimes in life we have to wait. for texts, people, moments or just summer. sometimes these things need quite a short time to happen, sometimes they take more time. and sometimes these things will probably never happen.

Old & Rundown

Some people would say cars are more than just machines,

Sometimes they are a part of our lives,

Some would say it's a form of a bond, A strong,

A some what of a connection that sometimes would last a life time.

The way she purr's,

When we take her out for a spin,

Sometimes the feeling of freedom!

For some, it's the memories they hold,

Like: Road Trips and Adventures

And for others, it's the way she gleams,

A reflection of our self-esteem.

But no matter what the reason,

Sometimes we develop a sentimental tie,

To feeling of her metal and gears as we drive,

A connection that will forever thrive.

So when we see them just sitting there,

Rusty and worn down, with no repairs,

That's when we sometimes can't help but feel a sense of loss,

For the memories and love it has cost.

For cars are more than just machines,

Sometimes they are part of our lives,

A sentimental bond that will never break,

For the love of our cars, our hearts will ache.
