This metal micrometer measuring gauge was one of my father's many tools; before his death he gave many of them to my husband. This tool was used for precise measurement and to measure gap widths.
After he and my mother survived active war duty in the army, they went to university. There they became concerned about government and politics the more they learned. Glad they can't see our situation now.
Inspired by #MacroMondays and #father. As shot, except to remove a bit of cyan along an edge. Approximate width 5cm/ 1.97 inches.
NB. I tried for a no-frills or bokeh approach, a more engineering streamlined look. The histogram looks okay...does it look too dark on your monitor?
This week’s Macro Monday's theme is 'SPIRAL—which may be described as “a continuous and gradually widening (or tightening) curve, either around a central point on a flat plane or about an axis so as to form a cone...”'
After taking multiple sets of photos — tiny seashells, small spiral notebook ends — for this #spiral theme, I chose this cyclamen bud ready to unfurl. Less than 0.5 inches / 1.27 centimeters.
The true spiral appears at the bottom of the bud, but that's alarmingly too small to see and capture without a microscope.
Thanks for looking, for your faves, and for your comments.

Munich airport. We had quite some time during our stop-over. So what to do? Experimenting with a very shallow depth of field .... :)

Day 110/365:
April 2022: A month in 30 pictures
I went to pick a few of these wild violets from my garden and there seemed to be a little snail graveyard by them. It seemed a good idea to use a natural vase for these little beauties. Getting them to stay put was another matter entirely. The top one was obviously camera shy! I did a version without the extra shell but my husband preferred this one, since I couldn't decide I went with his choice.

Definitely Dreaming - Week 47 - Season (I'm so behind and totally out of sync).
I took this one for Definitely Dreaming and as an alternative image for MM vintage theme a couple of weeks ago. It's a vintage mustard spoon with mustard powder.
Big old Wisteria (Wisteria floribunda 'rosea') vine just about to flower. The golden little leaves are just as dramatic and exquisite as the flowers.
“I don’t ride a bike to add days to my life. I ride a bike to add life to my days.” – Unknown
Did I ever mention that I do looove to ride my bike ?? : ))
We have a complete shutdown here, now, of all cultural and public life as of Wednesday, March 17th, 2020 (schools, kindergartens and day care centers are already closed since Monday)
... so my bike might get a little bit bored during the coming weeks as I am working from home now ...
Please take care and stay healthy, dear Flickr Friends !! ♥

#85 in my 100 x challenge - 100 Lensbaby images
Another dull day here so I thought I'd have a play with my new torch to light the image.
I was tempted to use flowers on a book but thought this was more autumnal for the October challenge. I may do a high key floral one another day though.
Lensbaby Sol 45, blades disengaged this time to let a bit more light in.
Autumn and winter-time pretty little bell flowers produced by plants within this Australian genus.
Often commonly called Australian native fuchsia.

This is specifically cultivar 'Catie Bec' growing to 1m in height.

Sorry. Most of my retirement time is spent doing music. But I could not miss this theme. Excellent theme.

Coffee is one of my favourite drinks. I actually stopped drinking it for about thirty years and only discovered I liked it again a few years ago. Strange how tastes change. HCT

Day 296/365
A slow walk around the village this afternoon and I noticed this autumnal vine hanging down. A little further on I got another photo and couldn't decide which to use so I'm posting two photos, one for the 365 and one for the October challenge. Other photo in comments.
Yes, I've been deadheading the roses again...
The photo in this image is of my friend's late parents, Margaret and Sandy. Everyone was given a copy of the print at Margaret's funeral earlier this year. She was a truly remarkable lady. As soon as I saw the photo I knew I had to use it in a still life image. I sent the image to my friend who said she'd been having a really bad day and this picture gave her some comfort and seemed like a message from them. I don't know what made me decide to use the photo today but sometimes things just happen for a reason.
Not I, nor anyone else can travel that road for you.
You must travel it by yourself.
Perhaps you have been on it since you were born, and did not know.
Perhaps it is everywhere - on water and land.

"Flowers are red, and green leaves are green. There's no need to see flowers any other way than the way they always have been seen."
Harry Chapin
“Dark-eyed Juncos are neat, even flashy little sparrows that flit about forest floors of the western mountains and Canada, then flood the rest of North America for winter. They’re easy to recognize by their crisp (though extremely variable) markings and the bright white tail feathers they habitually flash in flight. One of the most abundant forest birds of North America, you’ll see juncos on woodland walks as well as in flocks at your feeders or on the ground beneath them.”
