Anything goes for 2021 - Macro

This little purple flower and I thought we would make an appearance. I can't speak for the flower but I am still seeking out my mojo.

I have no idea what the flower is, I found it at Wrest Park on my recent visit, I thought it was rather beautiful.

Since I am not on Flickr much lately, it's unlikely I will be able to catch up with all the photos you have posted but I will certainly attempt to catch up with your most recent ones.

You've seen my Dad's old wristwatch before: back in November 2022 for (h)our (please forgive the silly play on words) "Vintage" theme (please check the first comment). Back then, I had paired it with my Mom's old thread counter, this time, I've photographed the watch on its own.

Since I thought it would look more interesting with some motion blur on the seconds hand, I decided to give the in-camera "Live ND Filter" another try. The Live ND Filter is great fun and

very useful if you want to take a long exposure shot in bright conditions but have forgotten to bring a real ND filter along. I believe that the camera takes numerous images in a very fast succession and combines them automatically in-camera. It only works in M mode, so it's not a totally automated process because your manual settings will affect the final result. On the E-M1III, you can go up to ND 32, the newer OM-1 even gives you an ND 64 simulation, but the E-M1III is my macro cam, and ND 64 would have been too much for my purpose (even ND 32 was because it blurred the seconds hand out almost completely). But ND 16 created a nice, "fan-like" effect, so I decided to stick to it. It still was a little tricky to find the best camera and seconds hand position, so I took quite a few shots, but in the end, I even had three options to choose from, so I consider this a success ;)

The font/style used for the 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock indices is very typical of the 1960s (which is also the decade my Mom gave this watch to my Dad as an engagement gift). The watch brand is "Primato", a long-closed manufacturer from Germany's "gold town" Pforzheim (a nickname Pforzheim acquired because quite many jewellery manufacturers and goldsmiths reside there). Recently, U.S. watchmaker Timex has reissued a hand-wound 34mm "Marlin" watch that uses a similar font for the 12, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 hour markers. Just in case you were interested ;)

HMM, Everyone, and have a nice, sunny week ahead!

Day 220/365:

A busy day looking after our grandson so no time for photography until the light had gone. My macro lens and a couple of Omni crystals were on my camera so although the light was not good, I upped the ISO and grabbed a shot or two of this fading echinacea. then added a couple of textures.

A quintessential, but young wet robin perches on a popular perch in rain and sprinkles. Not sure why the perch seems popular with small and large birds, raptors included.

Sorry, not really crazy ... but in times of spring fatigue, the bedroom seems to exert a great pull on me ; ))

No, seriously - I really liked the spring light on that day and was in the mood for a rather simple subject

Backlight is light that hits an actor or subject from behind, typically higher than the subject it is exposing. Backlighting an object or actor from the background creates more depth and shape to a subject.

Back lighting is a main component of the traditional three-point-lighting technique and is what makes a frame feel three-dimensional rather than flat. When a backlight hits a subject at an angle it is referred to as a kicker or rim light.

Within the context of a traditional three-point-lighting setup, a backlight reduces the flatness of the image against a background caused by the key light and fill light by separating a subject from the background.

Because back light photography hits a subject from behind at a higher angle, it gives a sense of depth and space behind the subject. Back light not only exposes the rim of an actor, but can help expose the space behind them to create a more three-dimensional image.

Same procedure as last week... I wasn't really happy with any of my images, and took several more (of the same subject) today, but in the end I decided to stick to an image taken last night. It's strange sometimes, isn't it? So here we go, circles, or rather holes of a reduction sieve (?) that came with my espresso maker. Each of the holes has a diameter of 1 mm / 0,03 inches. I wanted a very narrow focal plane and everything else as bokeh, and in that I guess I've succeeded – somehow. Well, I hope you like the image anyway, I've looked at it too many times yesterday and today, so I can't see the forest for the trees (or the coffee for the holes) :)

It's a single image illuminated with one LED lamp (equipped with the blue tealight holder), and backlight coming from another LED lamp (equipped with the yellow plastic bottle cap) on which I had also placed the sieve. Processed in DXO and Color Efex where I'd slightly tweaked the colours by adding some warmth with the Reflector Efex Gold filter.

HMM, Everyone!

So I took this shot later in the day as I was busy today. Then Lightroom would not read the camera card......the nerve!

Hello Everyone!

I loved the pastel tones of this one. Very little editing was done in Photohop Elements 15 using Colour Curves to accentuate the whites.

A leaf appears to be floating but is instead resting on a smooth surface. The petiole that is hanging down is actually a reflection of the petiole that is pointing up. The smooth surface is the hood of an automobile.

The leaf is from a red maple tree (Acer rubrum, Sapindaceae) that had fallen in Eagle River, Vilas County in northern Wisconsin.

I hope to catch up with you tonight, HMM, Everyone and always stay safe and healthy!

Plants. I'm not a gardener. I've tried and did ok for a couple of years. Apart from the fact that all my veges had purple tinges - after I grew a purple cabbage variety. That was strange. But they tasted ok. But my hair has been purple ever since eating them ;-)

Anyway, plants sometimes look like they don't come from earth.

Not taken in my garden - so these purple stalks are not my doing!

I felt the need for a little high key so here is one I took a couple of months ago with the Helios.

The daisies are from my wildflower patch, placed in a vase by my lounge window.

Well, it's "only" food for birds. They really enjoy the numerous red balls that fall from our mountain ash in the garden. Better still the ones dangling from the tree – they are juicier ;-) For me, too, a pleasure – I can watch them from my work place ... That is quite a distraction ;-) today it rained almost all day ... it is autumn.
