Day 141/365:
After a busy day we were planting our patio tubs and the light was failing when I realised I hadn't got my photo. I put a begonia on the table with a faded red washing up bowl behind it and after a few attempts decided on another multiple exposure. The colours were so vibrant that I toned it down with a bit of faffery and added a texture or two.
Newly planted, this little rhododendron bush has new buds ready for spring in many months.
The buds make perfect perches for small birds--at least on our more well-established plants.
Another wet knees and tripod and caffeine photo.
One of three species of pelican found in the Americas and one of two that feed by diving into water.
It was lovely to see these in number within the San Francisco Bay area.
1 to 1.5 m in length. The bill can measure up to 350 mm.

i was lucky to meet this beauty at just the right time yesterday evening. It was late enough for it to be calm and still, yet warm enough for its wings to spread in the later evening sunshine. It let me get incredibly close - such a special moment!
This metal micrometer measuring gauge was one of my father's many tools; before his death he gave many of them to my husband. This tool was used for precise measurement and to measure gap widths.
After he and my mother survived active war duty in the army, they went to university. There they became concerned about government and politics the more they learned. Glad they can't see our situation now.
Inspired by #MacroMondays and #father. As shot, except to remove a bit of cyan along an edge. Approximate width 5cm/ 1.97 inches.
NB. I tried for a no-frills or bokeh approach, a more engineering streamlined look. The histogram looks okay...does it look too dark on your monitor?

Actually, not a very safe spot for cats to cross the street. East 1st Avenue, Vancouver. November 8, 2020.
Using a compressed telephoto perspective and shooting from behind and above to capture a different view of the bridge, engulfed by foliage.
Ok, more dirty b...., but ok Autumn seems to be their season :) From left to right:

I'll be away for about two weeks, getting some fresh air in the mountains and relaxing and recovering from that blasted Corona virus ... so I won't be around most of the time.
Please take care of yourselves !
Some or you might remember:
My Flickr name had been "smiling frogs" for a few days back in December 2020 when my account suddenly vanished in front of my eyes ...
But I still love frogs; this is a cute birthday card : ))
I played around a bit in Topaz Studio here (mainly Hello Highlights, 10% opacity) and Analog Efex : ))
I was going to submit this one to Macro Mondays "Brands and Logos" but decided on another one. I did like this one though.
Happy Macro Monday

We went to Wrest Park, a local stately home. Lovely to see the gardens springing to life.

my husband brought me a lovely bouquet of flowers on Friday and this was one of my first attempts with the new manual Laowa 2x ultra macro lens (2:1 magnification) that had just arrived ; ))
Not as close as I could have gone (you see about 4 - 5 cm here), but I like the soft DOF very much even as it is
Wishing you a lovely rest of Sunday and a pleasant week ahead !!

I bought this heart shaped pebble a while back with a particular photo in mind but didn't get around to it before the pandemic hit. Now it will have to wait but thought it would be perfect for this theme.

For those that don't know, the title is from As Time Goes By. Here is a link to the version by the amazing Billie Holiday.

You're welcome, enjoy and have a wonderful weekend.
Day 110/365:
April 2022: A month in 30 pictures
I went to pick a few of these wild violets from my garden and there seemed to be a little snail graveyard by them. It seemed a good idea to use a natural vase for these little beauties. Getting them to stay put was another matter entirely. The top one was obviously camera shy! I did a version without the extra shell but my husband preferred this one, since I couldn't decide I went with his choice.
Purple Coneflowers (Echinacea purpurea) are just beginning to bloom. Classic Summer flowers for us. 🌺
“Dark-eyed Juncos are neat, even flashy little sparrows that flit about forest floors of the western mountains and Canada, then flood the rest of North America for winter. They’re easy to recognize by their crisp (though extremely variable) markings and the bright white tail feathers they habitually flash in flight. One of the most abundant forest birds of North America, you’ll see juncos on woodland walks as well as in flocks at your feeders or on the ground beneath them.”
