#85 - 100 x challenge - Lensbaby

Since my flash was still on my camera I thought I'd use it again today and I like to make the most of my props so here is one of the cages from yesterday's pic too. May as well make it a mini series. I did change the lens though, to my Lensbaby Velvet 56

Gazania is a genus of plants native to South Africa. They do well here in Australia due to similar latitudes and weather.

Gazania tomentosa is a very hardy, sun-loving ground cover with attractive silvery grey-green foliage that forms a thickly spreading mat.

Held above on short, stiff stalks are these wonderfully bright and sunny yellow flowers.

A popular plant due to their drought tolerance and ability to withstand difficult environments like coastal settings and poor soils.

Flower diameter 6 cm.

Gentle rain and new quivering aspen leaves. Bliss, for me.

Thank you for looking

We also have several clonal aspen trees that began growing several years ago—quite fun to see.

This little fellow measures less than 5mm and it seemed keenly interested in my Heuchera plant. I used my Raynox 250 conversion lens to capture this hover fly as he was zipping about. (Only minor edits)

Definitely Dreaming - Week 47 - Season (I'm so behind and totally out of sync).

I took this one for Definitely Dreaming and as an alternative image for MM vintage theme a couple of weeks ago. It's a vintage mustard spoon with mustard powder.

Another shot of our dog, Sherry, must mean that I have some new kit to play with; this time it’s the Canon RF85 f2 😁. Naturally the f1.2 has a lot more going for it, at a price, but the f2 is a very competent more affordable lens, and produces very sharp images wide open, as this shot is.

Letting those hues look vibrant. I tend to keep colors/colours as shot. Time to try something diferent.

In January 2022 I asked a Flickr support hero to remove my accounts from the Explore algorithm. Peace.

Happy first Fence Friday of this Summer, my friends. Have a wonderful weekend!

It's a bit of both for me actually ... I took some days off to go hiking, but it's raining cats and dogs almost every day here in South Germany since Sunday (June 14th). I don't mind rain, even like it - but we can't do long or difficult tours at the moment ...

I am glad nonetheless to be somewhere else than home after 3.5 months of home office ... and be able to just unwind a bit :))

Edit: It's getting better finally - we even saw some sunbeams this afternoon :))

Please take care !

I will be back at the end of June and will then try to catch up properly !

#3 - 100 x challenge - Lensbaby

I bought this tiny vintage (1940s) dainty tin from Etsy. Since I can't get out for a rummage for photo props...and let's face it we all need new props from time to time...I've had to resort to looking online. I may have accidentally ordered a new lens today as well. Ooops!

This was taken using my Lensbaby Velvet 56 and Omni filter. The hearts are from my craft stash.

Day 59/365:

Macro Monday - Card

Macro of a of couple of ATCs (artist trading cards) I made back in 2007. I called them veiled beauty.

Artist trading cards are two and a half x three and a half inches (64 mm × 89 mm) in size and this is a small portion of two overlapping. HMM

While trying to photograph a shrike in the distance, I noticed that one of the October Glory Maples (Acer rubrum) appeared as bokeh in the background. An aspen in the foreground lost its leaves with the recent high winds. I shot more water drops than I did of the poor little wet shrike.

And it is raining again, a true Pacific Northwest month. Lovely!

Thank you, Flickr, for high resolution!

I'm always so excited when dahlia season starts...I'm so easily pleased. This is a new one to the garden this year, it's doing pretty well so far.

Day 24/365:

We saw an artist at work on the beach at Lyme Regis, Dorset. He very kindly let me take some photos. I loved the messy paint tubes.

This year it is just perfect to roam through the forest. There has been little wind or frost, so the leaves are slow to leave their place on the branches. Time for a small series :-)

Dieses Jahr ist es einfach ideal, um durch den Wald zu streifen. Es gab bisher wenig Wind oder Frost, so dass die Blätter nur langsam ihren Platz an den Zweigen verlassen. Zeit für eine kleine Serie :-)

This is how I see ;) This looks far too shallow for my husband. Hence, no need to comment if you see and prefer f/16 or a smaller aperture ;)

Such a garnish made of tiny crystals is not only nice to look at cocktails ;-) Although it is advisable not to get too close to this plant – it is unfortunately poisonous – and not to be used as a gourmet cocktail decoration ...

For cough sufferers, however, the ivy leaf extracts are a successful medicine to relieve the cough ...

Für Hustengeplagte sind die Blattextrakte des Efeus allerdings ein erfolgreiches Arzneimittel, um den Husten zu mildern ...

Macro Monday - Safety

This is a bulb safety pin pinned to a silk face mask...so double safety. HMM

“I don’t ride a bike to add days to my life. I ride a bike to add life to my days.” – Unknown

Did I ever mention that I do looove to ride my bike ?? : ))

We have a complete shutdown here, now, of all cultural and public life as of Wednesday, March 17th, 2020 (schools, kindergartens and day care centers are already closed since Monday)

... so my bike might get a little bit bored during the coming weeks as I am working from home now ...

Please take care and stay healthy, dear Flickr Friends !! ♥

Bitte passt auf euch auf und bleibt gesund, liebe Flickr-Freunde ! ♥

This tiny bloom is called Dwarf Checkermallow and there is quite a large clump of them in the background. These flowers are also called miniature hollyhocks.

Thanks a million for stopping by and for leaving me a comment! Have a wonderful day and new week!

Macro Monday - Bathroom

I usually set up my shots and use a tripod but just placed these on the bathroom window sill and took it hand held...standards are slipping!

The bath salts jar is approximately 1x2 inches. It's one of the little travel bath supplies from the B&B we stayed in Apollo Bay on our trip to Australia and I thought it would be a handy photo prop. Behind it is a scented candle, you'll just have to take my word that it smells wonderful and looks too good to light. HMM

Day 141/365:

After a busy day we were planting our patio tubs and the light was failing when I realised I hadn't got my photo. I put a begonia on the table with a faded red washing up bowl behind it and after a few attempts decided on another multiple exposure. The colours were so vibrant that I toned it down with a bit of faffery and added a texture or two.

Newly planted, this little rhododendron bush has new buds ready for spring in many months.

The buds make perfect perches for small birds--at least on our more well-established plants.

Another wet knees and tripod and caffeine photo.

One of three species of pelican found in the Americas and one of two that feed by diving into water.

It was lovely to see these in number within the San Francisco Bay area.

1 to 1.5 m in length. The bill can measure up to 350 mm.
