18/31: October: A month in 31 pictures

Not much time for photography today. Our grandson was with us again...we are making the most of it before winter sets in and we may not be able to see him so much. So today's offering is low key since the evenings are drawing in.

The book is one of my finds from a visit to a second hand book shop in Norfolk a couple of years ago. The rose from a beautiful bouquet sent by my son and daughter-in-law recently.

Incredibly small female crab spider, just a few mm body length. Perhaps a juvenile. I only saw her on these native kangaroo paw flower buds due to the contrasting colours. Out of place when I came upon her, as they usually hang out on flowers of similar colour to themselves.

This could be Thomisus spectabilis, commonly called spectacular crab spider or simply white crab spider.

Usually white, but can have patches of yellow, or appear fully yellow. The legs and head appear almost translucent.

Another suggestion is Zygometis xanthogaster, the milky flower spider (due to the eye ornamentation).

Of interest is that the spider also takes advantage of its colour scheme's reflectance of UV light to create a colour contrast in the visual field of the bees that subsequently attracts them.

Pulling on my snow togs to go shovel out my car yesterday, I reflected on my summer wardrobe -- shorts, a tee shirt, and sandals -- and how much more quickly it is to dress in that outfit, than what it takes to pull on all my layers of winter clothing and boots, so much effort leaves me out of breath sometimes.

Olympus EM1 + Meyer Optik Görlitz 50mm f1.8, wide open aperture.

Photographed on a Monday afternoon wander with Kiyoshi-san and NJ. Heatley Avenue, Strathcona, Vancouver. October 5, 2015.

Rarely do I shoot directly in the sun, but these maple leaves on our path caught my eye today. Another belly shot.

If they look too vivid, let me know. I did not increase saturation, but I do know how to lessen it. Might depend on all of our monitors.

A tad chilly and windy; we had to scurry to find warmer hats and gloves ;-)

Day 276/365:

October 2022: A month in 31 pictures

After my whinge yesterday, I have decided to just take one day at a time again and see how things go. I saw my GP this morning and she has given me some strong pain killers and a muscle relaxant so hopefully they will help. No more picking up my camera for a while though so if I can come up with an idea on a daily basis, using my iPhone, I will stay in the game but not going to put any pressure on myself. Looks like more in the spotlight series, and maybe a few more with my 'helping hand'.

Texture added (my own)

Thank you for all your kind comments yesterday, it means a lot! :)

Macro Mondays: Into the Woods

Fiddleheads are everywhere right now, they are quickly growing and will become adult ferns really soon.

Macro Monday - Forks

Thanks again Diane, for this fabulous vintage fork (and spoon) I love them!

I tried several ideas before finally narrowing it down to two images to choose from. HMM

Macro Mondays - theme of August 25, 2019: "Goes together like" ... strings and a (violin) bow

The violin bow is a tensioned stick which has horse-tail hair affixed to it. There is no music without the bow moving across the strings to cause vibration - although some compositions do include 'pizzicato' (plucking) or 'col legno' (soft striking of the string with the stick of the bow); but it's 'mainly' a bowed string instrument, mind ;))

The golden bokeh is a LED string of lights shining through the bridge of my violin.

Happy Macro Mondays everyone !!

Thanks for taking a look at my image and your feedback - very much appreciated

Macro Monday - High key

I haven't managed to do much photography lately but I had to this one. It is a star tied to a tiny bottle full of translucent stars on a bed of white tulle. Converted to mono as the stars had a slight yellow tinge which I didn't like. HMM

Thank you all for your kind wishes and love for Bruno. I really appreciate it. He is over his illness now. He is however still a very doddery elderly gentleman. We are taking each precious day at a time.

Day 362/365:

I realise I should have put a 3 instead of a 2 but I didn't think of the title until it was too late but it is most definitely the countdown to the end of the 365. If not my last then certainly the last for a while. I think my son and daughter-in-law would prefer me not to do another one as the last one I did was the year my grandson was born and this year my granddaughter was born...there seems to be a pattern here and I think their family is complete now. ;)

Lensbaby Trio 28 with Velvet setting. Late in the day as I'm still trying to shake this wretched bug off. So fairly low, artificial light.

... that is indeed good advice, I think - it always works for me !

And maybe some cheerful flowers are helping, too : ))

das ist tatsächlich ein guter Ratschlag - bei mir funktioniert es jedenfalls !

Und vielleicht helfen ja auch ein paar farbenfrohe Blümchen : ))

Day 75/365:

Definitely Dreaming - Fruit

Raspberries in a tiny glass cup and saucer that I bought in a little junk shop in Canada. Always nice to bring back lovely memories of a wonderful trip.

Thank you for all your well wishes. Fortunately I only have mild Covid symptoms so I don't feel too bad.

12/31: October 2022: A month in 31 pictures

A bit of a cheeky one today, I took a photo of my computer screen showing this entry for the October challenge 2020. If you read yesterday's post you will understand why..

This is our dearly departed Bruno and I felt he deserved another showing. He was the most amazing rescue dog. We adopted him when he was 12 years old and he was with us for three and a half years. I made him this autumn leaf crown and he was so good about wearing it for a photoshoot.

The original 2020 photo in comments.

Happy Fenced Friday dear Flickr Friends. Wishing everyone a great weekend.

Day 175/365:

I've heard a lot about reverse freelensing lately so thought I'd give it a go with my Helios lens. It was fun to have a go and quite difficult to focus but I'm not sure I picked the right subject. I was trying to experiment while I was looking after my four year old grandson...not the easiest thing in the world.

Wild chervil (Anthriscus sylvestris) - also known as cow parsley and Queen Anne's lace.

Day 65/365:

It's been a beautiful day here today but I've been busy and was struggling to think of what to photograph when I saw my dead roses (of course I still have them).

Held against my dining room window.

Lensbaby Twist 60. Film filter and texture added. HSS

Officially now Winter and the leaves are still falling. Taken in a local park.

Crazy Tuesday - theme of September 24, 2019 - Vintage / Retro o clásico

Original 'Antiko Hildesheimer Rose' = Silverware with a romantic touch (here: dessert forks)

[This special kind of cutlery has been produced for about a century. In the 1920s the first copies of the Hildesheim Rose cutlery were made, after the 2nd World War this cutlery pattern came into fashion again. The name 'Hildesheimer Rose' is said to go back to souvenir spoons of the city of Hildesheim]

Original 'Antiko Hildesheimer Rose' - Silberbesteck (Kuchengabeln)

I really love this plant.

Have a great weekend ahead and thank you for visiting.

It was very bright and sunny when I was at Borde Hill recently, but the king found a shady spot where he could sit and mull over weighty matters. I'm not sure he made any big decisions, but he definitely did a lot of thinking. :)
