Steptoe Butte is a famous landscape photographers paradise. I'd never been there before but had heard about the place for many years. I was not alone. Vans full of workshop photographers descended upon the site and stood tripod leg to tripod leg. I shot the sunset the day before and tried again this morning for the sunrise. Unfortunately the sunrise was at 4:59 am so I had to get up at 4:00 and get my wits about me to face the inevitable herd of shutterbugs. And, in fact, they were already lined up waiting to capture the magical orb ascending above the horizon. Well, it wasn't particularly dramatic so immediately after the sun hit the cloud line it was back on the bus for them. But about a half an hour later the sun started peeking through the clouds at various places and only myself and one other person were there for this interesting effect. Patience sometimes does pay off.

The beach always reminds me of holidays and we are about to leave for a short break. Hopefully the sun will shine as in this shot from last night at Largs.

This image was taken on June 1st 2008. This was the day that I had recieved my first DSRL. I had been shooting with a Panasonic Lunix before this, that I absolutely loved.... but, I had decided that I needed a true DSRL with the flexablilty of lens changing.

A week or so before this image was taken I had ordered a brand new Canon 40d with a 50mm 1.8 prime lens. When this baby arrived I was so excited. Taking pictures of everything. We were hanging out in the back yard when it looked like in the distance there were some cool clouds hanging around. I decided to head over to the nearest bike bridge to see what it looked like. So happy that I decided to do this. I remember coming back from the bridge and looking at the pictures I had just captured.... and I just smiled. I had witnessed one of the better skies I have seen. It was an awesome day and and awesome feeling.

Photography has some great personalities. It can bring you way up and it can bring you way down. Those times that are frustrating only make those godspeak times that much better. That's why we keep on heading out!

I had posted another similar image from this night about a year ago. Not sure which one I like better. The sun was coming out of the clouds more on this one..

Hope you like!

The light was just absolutely perfect....

The strong rays of the sun shine brightly through the clouds above the island of Maui, Hawaii. The photograph was taken by Skott Reader at Iao Valley State Park. This peaceful 4,000-acre, 10-mile long park is located in Central Maui just west of Wailuku,

OK, I admit it; I am a science fiction GEEK!! I grew up watching sputnik, moon landings and space shuttles. I watched Star Trek, Star Wars and the X-Files. I read books by Phillip K. Dick, Ray Bradbury and Arthur C. Clark. To this day if there is a movie about an alien invasion, UFO landing, or giant insects eating Cleveland Ohio, I am getting the popcorn and drinks out because it is going to be good times for Jack!!!

I always thought this would be a great sci-fi title for a novel or short story!!! If I had any talent, I would write it myself!! Lol

I've edited this one a lot, never satisfied with it. I like how this one is, though.

Since the Middle Ages the chateau in Arc-en-Barrois has belonged to princes, royal families, and French nobility. During the 1789 revolution part of the chateau was destroyed and later confiscated during the First Republic. At the restoration of the monarchy in 1830, King Louis-Philippe (1830-1848), member of the Orleans family, resumed ownership of the chateau and its vast forests. The King later transferred the property to his sister, Princess Adelaide d'Orleans. Between 1844 and 1848, Princess Adelaide rebuilt Château d'Arc-En-Barrois into its current form to serve as a hunting lodge. During World War I, the chateau served as a temporary English hospital, under the supervison of Miss Bromley-Martin. Later on, during World War II, the chateau briefly served as a local Nazi headquarters. In 2001, the chateau was bought by a Dutch shipping magnate who completely renovated the building to convert it into a Luxury Hotel.

Rusty old plow and trailer deep in the forest of Ojibway Park in Windsor Ontario. They've been there so long the trees have grown into and over them.

Spotted this one with the nice sky full of rays.

Ripon Cathedral, North Yorkshire, England.

A little drama over the sea at Brighton! Just minutes later the clouds parted and the blue sky returned.

The sunset might not have been so colourful the other night, but the golden light beamed between the buildings was awesome!

On this day in history....

The light was not kind to photographers.

The haze was dense, the clouds were non-discript and the contrast was high.

But we did get a brief light show over the Riggindale valley.

Northern Arizona has made a lasting impression on me. It is no wonder ancient native civilizations populated this area. This view is from the Tuzigoot pueblo that was built 700-900 years ago with a sprawling 100 room complex atop a hill in this area.

A stunning sky the other afternoon.
