What do you think I saw?!
This random guy got caught in some seriously epic rays!
This is the last of my fog photos!
From my christmas-vacation 2013.
I used Nik´s Color Efex Pro to get this "out of the dark"-feel to it and to enhance the colour of the reed.
After that I used G´Mic´s Dreamsmoothing- and Light rays-Filter.

On top of that hike, the forest there is nearly everyday in the midst of the clouds.
A plant could gather a few liters of water out of the clouds and that every day! - No surprise it really looks like a jungle up there.
This image was taken on June 1st 2008. This was the day that I had recieved my first DSRL. I had been shooting with a Panasonic Lunix before this, that I absolutely loved.... but, I had decided that I needed a true DSRL with the flexablilty of lens changing.
A week or so before this image was taken I had ordered a brand new Canon 40d with a 50mm 1.8 prime lens. When this baby arrived I was so excited. Taking pictures of everything. We were hanging out in the back yard when it looked like in the distance there were some cool clouds hanging around. I decided to head over to the nearest bike bridge to see what it looked like. So happy that I decided to do this. I remember coming back from the bridge and looking at the pictures I had just captured.... and I just smiled. I had witnessed one of the better skies I have seen. It was an awesome day and and awesome feeling.
Photography has some great personalities. It can bring you way up and it can bring you way down. Those times that are frustrating only make those godspeak times that much better. That's why we keep on heading out!
I had posted another similar image from this night about a year ago. Not sure which one I like better. The sun was coming out of the clouds more on this one..
Hope you like!

There's a kind of power thing about the camera. I mean everyone knows you've got some edge. You're carrying some magic which does something to them. It fixes them in a way.

My technique is alway the same:
Three exposures -2EV, 0, +2EV and then temperature adjustement using Lightroom and layering with luminosity mask using photoshop. Removal of distracting stuff with the stamp tool or patch tool. High pass filter to enhance details. Then saturation, contrast selectively control, dodge and burn where need...
DRI stand for Dynamic Range Increase. Three RAW files are used to achieve this. Rather than using a software like Photomatix for instance, I simply use mask to blend, my own way, the light, dark and normal shot with Photoshop and Lightroom.. To me, It looks more natural than the usual HDR treatment that I would normally applied.

Dodge and burn là où requis...

Our trip today took us to Pennard Castle and the Three Cliffs Bay - you can see the cliffs to the left. We were very fortunate to have good weather which made all the difference. The Three Cliffs Bay is a popular site among photographers and I was able to see why - the scenery is fantastic. I think what made this shot was me is that the clouds came out not long after we got to the cliffs, creating the amazing sky you see here. Strangely, I didn't take any long exposure shots as planned - I didn't really have to.
As you would see from the shot details I also got to use a wide angle lens today - the sigma 10 - 20mm; it proved to be just fantastic!
I've added one more shot in the comments of Lena under the same amazing sky. That was taking using the D300s (as promised).
Hope you're all having a great weekend. I shall catch up with your streams when I get back to base!

Willie and I had grand plans of exploring as much of the Banff National Park and surrounding area as we could. Kananaskis County and Jasper, Yoho, and Kootenay National Parks are all nearby. Unfortunately, a giant snow storm hit and impeded our ability to travel beyond Banff. We spent more sunrises than we would have liked visiting Vermillion Lakes, trying to capture icy mountain reflections with a pink and red sky.
There are actually 3 Vermillion Lakes and they're all one right after another. I imagine during floods, they turn into one giant lake. The First Vermillion Lake was mostly frozen by the time we arrived and the Third Vermillion Lake, while pretty, didn't have much exciting shoreline for us to explore. Second Vermillion Lake, however, became our go to sunrise location and we visited on 3 separate occassions.
When we woke for this morning, we weren't sure if the sky would be entirely clouded over, or entirely clear but we hopped out of bed and drove to the lake anyways. On the drive we noticed that they sky was already glowing purple, illuminated in pre-sunrise glory. This early burn, we knew meant that a beautiful sunrise was coming. Sure enough, once the sun began to approach the horizon, it lit the clouds in beautiful pinks, oranges, and reds. Light beams even managed to streak out from behind Mt. Rundle, giving off a divine appearance.

This shot was taken on the heather moors between Blanchland and Stanhope on the Durham / Northumberland border close to where I live in England. I saw that there was an opportunity for a shot as the sun was setting but could find no interest in the foreground. I walked around and finally found this rock which was small but using a low position and a wide angle was able to make it look bigger. Apart from the obvious sun flare (not the sun burst - I like that, but the flare spots) which is hard to avoid with these shots, I was very pleased with it. Sometimes sun flare can look OK, personal taste I guess.
Used a Lee 0.9 hard grad filter.
