“Gabriel Dawe’s architecturally scaled weavings are often mistaken for fleeting rays of light. It is an appropriate trick of the eye, as the artist was inspired to use thread in this fashion by memories of the skies above Mexico City and East Texas, his childhood and current homes, respectively. The material and vivid colors also recall the embroideries everywhere in production during Dawe’s upbringing.” [Quoting from the exhibit at Renwick Gallery]

Sun rays over downtown NY and the Freedom Tower

My second palladium print! First one had a few issues and I still don't have good digital negatives to work with. The original photo is on 4x5 HP5+

www.flickr.com/photos/zboumeester/5992590814/in/set-72157...

The original negative was scanned, edited, and then printed ( inverted to create a negative) on Pictorico OHP 8x10 transparency. The final print is on Arches Platine paper. 100% palladium until I get a great negative and know what I am doing.

Used the sun as my light source to expose the final print. This one was exposed for 20 minutes. I used 30 drops of solution A and C to coat the paper.

I positioned myself up high for this shot of the Hanoi traffic. This roundabout is in the Hoan Kiem district of Hanoi, adjacent to the lake. The area is filled with tourists and vendors selling everything from fresh baguettes to t-shirts, and even balloons!

In Explore 240 16th Nov 09 - Thanks to you all :-)

I took this yesterday - once again the sun shone only for a little while :-)

I had a hard time deciding which one I liked best...both have their own special qualities.

My thanks to the following for their generosity:

IT'S BETTER: ON BLACK

Light within the trees. Sunlight filtering through some trees in the morning.

Let me know what you think.

university of the south.

Lava tube beams in Mojave National Preserve. Using a crystal to make some rainbows.

The vegetation on each side of Rouge River at this point is pretty impenetrable so on a hot day with no rain forecast upstream I made my way up-river along the river bed itself to get to some pretty undisturbed and seldom visited spots (including a terrorist training camp for mosquitos!!)

For this shot, a small aperture and the right angle to the sun created very pronounced sun rays. I suppose it's personal preference as to whether you think they spoil the shot or add to it.

Thanks to inMotion Arts for letting me use the haze machine :)

Most of the houses in the neighborhood have automatic sprinklers. (Not us. If you come to visit in summer, you'll find the house easily as the one with the brownest lawn on the block.)

Saw this scene as I was driving and just had to stop and capture a few frames. Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, Canada

Somewhere at the #Baltic #Sea. This is a #re-edit of one of my favourite images from #2014. Back then I did not have a wide gamut monitor, so I wanted to give it another go to see if I could improve the colors just a little bit this time. Shot with Sony A7r + Olympus Zuiko OM 24mm f/2.8.

Have a nice day folks!

I wish I had my 7D or even just my GRD IV compact camera with me but shooting wasn't one of my IT's for the past many, many days.... This is another shot taken with a humble iPhone camera...

I tried to shoot the Neowise comet before, and it was a mess. I was done shooting it but then we found this place in Valmalenco and this happened. Great position over the mountain and the moon projecting light rays in the sky was something unique!

After the last, rather dark shots I wanted to publish something totally different.

I took this shot some days ago.

This scene was incredibly beautiful, I loved standing there and watching the scenerey.

My technique is alway the same:

Three exposures -2EV, 0, +2EV and then temperature adjustement using Lightroom and layering with luminosity mask using photoshop. Removal of distracting stuff with the stamp tool or patch tool. High pass filter to enhance details. Then saturation, contrast selectively control, dodge and burn where need...

DRI stand for Dynamic Range Increase. Three RAW files are used to achieve this. Rather than using a software like Photomatix for instance, I simply use mask to blend, my own way, the light, dark and normal shot with Photoshop and Lightroom.. To me, It looks more natural than the usual HDR treatment that I would normally applied.

Dodge and burn là où requis...
