Easter's Stine for Crash.

If black holes suck everything into them, I'm guessing white holes must expel everything that's in them. The background is an iPhone shot if an IKEA cloud lamp, the man is a shot of someone jumping on a trampoline. Processed in Alien Sky, Lightroom, PS, Nik, and every other filter, plug-in and texture I could get my hands on.

Interesting dawns continue with this year's smokey sky.

A beautiful sunset over Lake Norman a few weeks ago. There had been a long period of rainy and overcast days for weeks and this was the first time seeing sunlight and boy was it a great show. It was extremely windy on the lake that day but worth every minute. This was taken at Ramsey Creek Park in Cornelius NC.

A glorious sunet over Loch Leven.

This is a revisit to some older images and the cutting room floor. Every now and again the Loch puts on a dazzling display of light, and this was one of them.

Is Famine A Crime Against Humanity?

by UN Dispatch on Tumblr

So can a deliberate famine be a crime against humanity? Yes, and it won’t be the first time. In the early 1900s, the Herero people living in the German colony of Southwest Africa rebelled. In response, the Kaiser ordered General Lother von Trotha to destroy the tribe. To accomplish this, the General employed a simple but brutal strategy: he created an artificial famine. Outmaneuvering the Herero people, he encircled them except for a gap in the direction of the Omaheke desert. Left no where else to go, Herero men, women, and children fled into the desert. Then von Trotha’s men sealed all waterholes around the desert and blocked any escape with 250km of fences, guard posts, and patrols. The Herero tribe was trapped in the desert with no means of acquiring food or water. The general effectively created an artificial famine to do the killing for him. The strategy was a powerful method of killing, before the 1904 rebellion Hereros numbered 80,000 in South West Africa. In 1911, that number was 15,000. In 1985, the United Nations’ Whitaker Report called the German strategy one of the earliest genocides of the 20th century. In 2004, Germany officially apologized.

When I stood in front of the golden light rays, I felt like I was standing in front of a gate, and all of sudden, the gate opened, and shinny diamonds, gold, and silver inside.

What moves me about...what's called technique...is that it comes from some mysterious deep place. I mean it can have something to do with the paper and the developer and all that stuff, but it comes mostly from some very deep choices somebody has made that take a long time and keep haunting them.

Sunset at the top of Taft Point in Yosemite National Park.

The sun burns open a hole through the dark clouds that hang over the Fraser River at Garry Point Park.

I took these shots late at night. But it had been raining, and there was a lot of humidity in the air. So, the Tyndall Effect created a God Ray kind of appearance. Also, I think the low light function of my iPhone caused the sky to look much lighter than it actually was. Not the best quality photos, but I kind of like them. They are grainy (or "noisy" I guess). The rays and shadows are coming from the street light streaming through the trees. I guess they are tungsten lights. Those come out yellow, right?

Weather/light changes the impact of the subject drastically. Great light can transform a good image into a phenomenal one.

The rivers in Citrus County, FL are full of Manatees this time of year. They winter in the warm spring water that stays a constant 70 degrees year round. This one was on the Homosassa River. They're very curious, and almost seem as interested in humans as we are with them.

“There are millions of children suffering from malnutrition today–out of view from journalists and TV cameras. Why should they have to wait to be caught up in the middle of a war or a food crisis in order to receive the kinds of high-value foods that will help them grow healthy and strong and reach their potential?”

I went camping in Dorset over the Jubilee weekend. It was a truly English bank-holiday: 50mph winds, lashing rain and the occasional moment when the world opened up and was spectacularly beautiful.

Tech - D800 with a long-ish zoom. Auto WB - it accurately reflects the extraordinary colour in the sky. Very little post, other than ensure good web colour. Hi-res uploaded for those interested in very very big pictures!

Streaks of light from behind the clouds

one of those fleeting moments as the sun breaks through the fog. I couldn't decide between the colour or mono images...

One from a local wood near me after the school run last week.

This little area is actually managed by a small eco community who live and work on the 40 acre site. 2/3 of it is woodland and rest is orchards and veggie plots. It's a thriving low impact community who build their simple homes from the natural materials in the woodland. Surrounded by large affluent traditional ham stone homes, this little place is an oasis of alternative ideas - I must admit to being a little bit jealous of their simple inspiring lifestyle.

And...they get some great light rays on the eastern fringes of the wood - What's not to love? :)

Finally some Lightrays again :) Sharpness isn´t that great, but i was in a hurry....we only had sun for at least 1 or 2 Minutes! So sorry for that ;)

As the winter photo season approaches this year and as I start feeling better from post back surgery, I've been really wanting to get out and explore some of the the Bay Area and Northern California coastline I haven't seen in the past. Pacifica Pier was one of those places, that has been on my radar for a while, but yet to visit.

Location wise there are some really nice long sand beaches, and just to the edge of the pier is what I have decided to affectionately call the "triplets." A group of three rocks slightly buried in the sand, that create some great water lines as the tide pulls back.
