This is why I go out in storms on the Oregon coast.

Rays of light illuminate a great white shark (Carcharodon carcharias) through the blue waters off of Isla de Guadalupe. The light passing through the surface creates a variety of patterns along the shark's body.

As the first snow storm of winter was clearing out around the north rim of the Grand Canyon, I went out looking for some interesting light in the surrounding forests. As the clouds broke on the fog lifted, rays of light would pierce the canopy of trees providing some amazing scenes. When I noticed a few deer making their way through the area I quietly waited for the perfect opportunity to snap off a few frames. This deer graciously walked right into the center of the rays of light. My only complaint is the tree coming out of it's back. "Never put a telephone pole coming out of the top of someones head," keeps running through my head. How much do you think it takes away from the scene? Thanx for any comments and feedback!!!

“Gabriel Dawe’s architecturally scaled weavings are often mistaken for fleeting rays of light. It is an appropriate trick of the eye, as the artist was inspired to use thread in this fashion by memories of the skies above Mexico City and East Texas, his childhood and current homes, respectively. The material and vivid colors also recall the embroideries everywhere in production during Dawe’s upbringing.” [Quoting from the exhibit at Renwick Gallery]

My second palladium print! First one had a few issues and I still don't have good digital negatives to work with. The original photo is on 4x5 HP5+

www.flickr.com/photos/zboumeester/5992590814/in/set-72157...

The original negative was scanned, edited, and then printed ( inverted to create a negative) on Pictorico OHP 8x10 transparency. The final print is on Arches Platine paper. 100% palladium until I get a great negative and know what I am doing.

Used the sun as my light source to expose the final print. This one was exposed for 20 minutes. I used 30 drops of solution A and C to coat the paper.

Just after a storm had gone by and the rain stopped, I was on my way back to my car and the clouds opened up.

I positioned myself up high for this shot of the Hanoi traffic. This roundabout is in the Hoan Kiem district of Hanoi, adjacent to the lake. The area is filled with tourists and vendors selling everything from fresh baguettes to t-shirts, and even balloons!

I took this yesterday - once again the sun shone only for a little while :-)

I had a hard time deciding which one I liked best...both have their own special qualities.
