My attempt at the "Smile on Saturday" theme "oil on water".
I freely admit that I can be very stubborn from time to time... that's why I almost didn't submit any image for this weeks "Smile on Saturday" theme "oil". The reason being, that while I have seen many interesting oil on water shots, I didn't just want to watch a tutorial on how to do that but try it myself. Because I didn't find enough time to really experiment and the first results looked very boring or lacked contrast, I almost stopped my attempts. However one last try netted me some more (hopefully) interesting results, so I'm going to share them. Maybe I'll watch a tutorial in the future and see how it's really done... you never know! 😅

Scarborough Castle stands on a massive headland of rock which has been inhabited for nearly 3,000 years. Ringed by cliffs and the sea, this naturally defensible site has been fortified many times over the centuries. The harbour at Scarborough has also served as an important gateway to the whole of north-east England.
The keep was built between 1158 and 1164 by order of King Henry II. It had a basement and three floors above, and its angles were carried up as turrets to a total height of about 100 feet. The west wall was demolished by order of Parliament in 1649.
The castle is placed in the care of English Heritage.

A quiet peace can be found from watching bees. “Bees are the batteries of orchards and gardens. Guard them.”

Cuz when you're down, there's only one direction you can go.
No worries! I'm not down. This bird's position and eye just made me think that.
I think this is some kind of sparrow but I don't know what kind it is. If any of my bird friends out there know, clue me in :-)
I just like the colors in this
There is nothing worse than waking up in the morning and finding a big container ship or a grain barge in your yard. The obvious way to keep this from happening is to purchase one of our medium sized home lighthouses. This concrete model is very heavy and should only be erected by professional light house installers. (I have no idea where you can find anyone like that so don’t call and ask). This model has a lifetime warranty. It does come with instructions in case you have to do it yourself, but I would suggest you need big equipment.
On the other hand, we do sell a wooden model (not shown) that is easier to erect. It comes with only a one year warranty, for obvious reasons.
Get your orders in soon.

cvmel - light of my life
Pete Rowbottom's LPOTY winner has remained etched in my mind since I first saw it. Now, whenever I go via Glencoe I pop to this spot to see if I can get anything half as good. Yesterday it was -7 deg C in Fort William, but I watched the temperature rising as I neared Glen Etive, dashing my hopes of frozen waterfalls. But instead of sinking into the usual six inches of dark squelchy mud on arrival I found everything frozen hard. I might have stayed longer, and tried different things to get a better result. But I needed to be in Edinburgh on time. The sky was disappointingly bright and sunny. I will try again, next time.
We had two days of blue skies and sunny weather, however, on the last day of our weekend in the Sauerland, the weather had changed overnight and it was misty and snowing.....
The going was tough.

( I added a bit more drama, but I'm sure you sense the atmosphere....)
