Smile on Saturday theme: "VASES AND FLOWER POTS”

Barn Owl heading straight at me, my cammo lens and tripod cover works a treat.

... at least until it's time to chow down. This Great horned owl sat patiently in the afternoon light while I strolled by, presumably waiting for the evening hunt.

A quiet peace can be found from watching bees. “Bees are the batteries of orchards and gardens. Guard them.”

The brilliant red berries of this Cotoneaster shrub in my garden feed hungry birds and remind me to keep on going. Winter seems never-ending in this last week of January, but February is a short month - that gives me hope for spring.

Pete Rowbottom's LPOTY winner has remained etched in my mind since I first saw it. Now, whenever I go via Glencoe I pop to this spot to see if I can get anything half as good. Yesterday it was -7 deg C in Fort William, but I watched the temperature rising as I neared Glen Etive, dashing my hopes of frozen waterfalls. But instead of sinking into the usual six inches of dark squelchy mud on arrival I found everything frozen hard. I might have stayed longer, and tried different things to get a better result. But I needed to be in Edinburgh on time. The sky was disappointingly bright and sunny. I will try again, next time.
