Winter, the day is almost over, close to the sunset, the shadows are long, and a solitary bench, under some oaks, invites me to take some rest. But wait! The Sky is glorious today, the clouds are dense and we are close to sunset, then, no way.

Not because there are thorns. And also not because this iron sculpture of the 1970s is rough and rusty. It is because recognition will not happen if you get much closer. If you zoom in much further, you will not recognise the face. You will see structure, texture, bright and dark areas, but not a face. Some things can only be recognised from a distance. Fuji X-Pro1 plus Samyang telephoto (mirror) lens fixed at F6.3.
Thinking back to the Night Photoshoots in North Conway yard during Railfan's weekend. (When there was one)
For as long as I can remember, the Conway Scenic welcomed fans and the public alike with open arms. The yard was free to roam, as long as you didn't interfere with any equipment. It was an honor system that was mutually understood. Hell, one time I even got a personal tour of the roundhouse and was welcomed inside the cab of the very same 4266 seen here.
Today if one were to stand from this same vantage point, you would be called out over the station platform loudspeaker about leaving and something about private property. Ask me how I know.
Some traditions die hard, others from behind ropes and fences. You're either there for business or not there at all.
Wales is famous for its many castles so yesterday I took a visit to Cardiff Castle. I've not been there for a long time and although it was nice, I was left a little disappointed by my visit. The history was great, but the actual tour of the castle was very short, You can pay extra for a 50 minute guided tour but we didn't really have time for that. I only managed to get a couple of shots I was happy with, one of the Norman Keep and one from inside the castle of the stunning Arab Room ceiling (more on that soon).
So here's my shot of the Keep, I was lucky enough to get a shot with a bit of blue sky as it was fairly overcast and the white sky looked horrible, thankfully it cleared up as the day went on and I managed to get a couple of shots of Caerphilly Castle at sunset last night which will be coming in the week.
The twelve-sided Keep at Cardiff is the finest in Wales and is known as a ‘shell’ keep. Its outer walls provided a shell for smaller buildings within it. From the top of the Keep the panoramic views of the city are breath-taking and to the north, you can see as far as Castell Coch.
A photograph is what it appears to be. Already far from 'reality' because of its silence, lack of movement, two-dimensionality and isolation from everything outside the rectangle, it can create another reality, an emotion that did not exist in the 'true' situation. It's the tension between these two realities that lends it strength. -- Richard Kalvar
For all of my flickr friends who have been posting images of brilliant fall colors and even snow covered landscapes, I thought I'd give you a taste of southern California autumn. I photographed this hibiscus earlier this afternoon on a day that got up to 80F degrees (27C). The bush is loaded with blooms and has grown so huge that the picket fence is leaning from it's weight. Various textures from Florabella, Isabelle LaFrance and Flypaper were harmed in the making of this image.
As many I strolled around during the project "The Quiet Space" at Kraftwerk Berlin. Equipped with my little (quiet) Contax T and a Ilford Delta 3200 @800, developed in HC-110

Following a deluge of rain in the Macarthur region localised flooding occurred.
The sign on the gate warns trespassers to Keep Out.
Lets be realistic here, one would really be pushing against the tide to get this gate open in a hurry.

A long overdue catch up this evening with a good friend. We'd been out on the moors searching for Curlews. We did hear a few but sightings were rare.
On my way home the sun was looking grand and I had to pull over and take this shot.
Unfortunately the Lambo was in for a service so the Shhkoda had to provide the foreground!! :)
