Short transcription of the comment of the pilot (2 hours before landing): ladies and gentlemen .. you are not going to like this, but a couple of hours ago we already have set course to return back to Schiphol Airport because of an engine failure in 1 of the 4 engines. We turned off the engine and did not want to take the risk to continue flying to Bangkok in this kind of state.
Anyway I thought it would be nice to take a picture of this flight path, we almost reached half way to BKK! Tonight I will have another try to get there!
This is a rare 1916 Le Zebre Engine that was on display at the museum.
Taken in the National Motor Museum, Birdwood, South Australia in 2013.
As the light force engine, Engine 202 carries suppression equipment.

Made from junk computer parts and household items, mostly.
Runtime is approximately 30 minutes on 200ml jar of freshly boiled water. Infinite if the jar is heated. The speed is modest at about 100RPM tops.
No lathe required, only drill press, some minimal milling work, soldering, and sawing.
This engine has real piston, not a makeshift rubber membrane.

The San Francisco Fire Department lost two of its members from Engine Company 26, who were both critically injured during an explosion while bravely fighting a house fire in the Diamond Heights neighborhood on June 2, 2011. Both died at the hospital as a result of their injuries after all rescussitative measures were taken by the Emergency Trauma staff at San Francisco General Hospital.
Days later firefighters from around California and around the country gathered to pay their respects during a funeral service. In this sequence we see some of the equipment from the East Bay Area.
The Parks Reserves Forces Training Area (PRFTA) maintains a Fire Departmenting on Camp Parks in Dublin. The PRFTA Fire & Emergency Services Branch is an all risk fire department providing fire suppression, rescue services, hazardous materials response, emergency medical services, fire prevention, and public education. The department protects approximately 2700 acres of US Government property in the San Francisco Bay Area. Camp Parks Fire Department runs this Ferrara built pumper as Engine 44.
The Ferrari Portofino (Type F164) is a grand touring sports car produced by the Italian automotive manufacturer Ferrari and has a 0–60 mph (0–97 km/h) time of 3.5 seconds. It is a two-door 2+2 hard top convertible. The car is named after the village of Portofino in northern Italy and the car succeeds the company's previous V8 grand tourer, the California T.
The engine, a 3,855 cc (4 L; 235 cu in) Ferrari F154BE twin-turbocharged V8, is the same as in the Ferrari GTC4 Lusso T, but yields a slightly de-tuned power output of 441 kW; 592 hp (600 PS) at 7,500 rpm and 760 N⋅m (561 ft⋅lb) of torque at 3,000 to 5,250 rpm. The Portofino can accelerate from 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) in 3.5 seconds, 0–200 km/h (0–124 mph) in 10.8 seconds and can attain a top speed of 320 km/h (199 mph).

Sir Cecil A Cochrane was moved to Backworth in June 1971 from Redheugh Gas Works in Gateshead, for storage in agreement with the NCB. The two road engine shed stands behind the engine.
It was eventually moved to the Tanfield Railway along with several other vintage engines stored at Backworth when the mine closed in 1980.

I found four units from the Lake Valley Fire Projection District (LAV) parked at Meek's Lumber and Hardware in Meyers this morning as we left the Lake Tahoe basin for home. The units included Brush 7, Medic 7, Chief 701 and an unmarked engine. I'm certain they were there for Meek's Kid's Day.

This 1962 American LaFrance built fire engine started life with San Jose Fire Department. It is built on a Ford C series chassis.
In 1985 it was retired by SJFD, and former KNTV weatherman Bob Haulman who had moved to Newcastle, California, arranged to buy it for the Newcastle Volunteer Fire Department, where he was Chief.
The rig served at Newcastle until 1998 when it was sold to a man in Southern California who wanted it to serve as Fire Protection at a Boy Scout camp.
This year it was put up for sale and the San Jose Fire Museum was able to verify it's origins and sucesfully negotiated for the rigs donation to the San Jose Fire Museum.

John Fowler was an agricultural engineer and inventor who was born in Wiltshire in 1826. He worked on the mechanisation of agriculture and was based in Leeds. He is credited with the invention of steam-driven ploughing engines. He died 4 December 1864, following a hunting accident. After his death, John Fowler & Co., was then continued by Robert Fowler and Robert Eddison. In 1886 the limited company of John Fowler & Co., (Leeds) Ltd., was formed. It merged with Marshall, Sons & Co., Ltd., of Gainsborough in 1947 to form Marshall-Fowler Ltd.
1957 Leyland Routemaster prototype bus – RML3
RML3 is one of four prototype Routemasters built and tested between 1954-1958 before full-scale production began. It was taken into stock in July 1957 and entered service in January 1958, allocated to Willesden garage for use on route 8 into and across central London. One of the two prototypes to have a Leyland engine, it became the only Routemaster to have a body built by Weymann of Weybridge/Addlestone in Surrey at their now long-gone factory just up the road from today’s Museum.
In January 1959 it was involved in a severe collision in the Edgware Road and suffered extensive frontal panel damage. After repair in London Transport’s experimental workshop at Chiswick Works, it was returned to service until November 1959 when its service career ended after only 18 months. It then became a driver-training vehicle in preparation for the introduction of production Routemasters to replace London’s electric trolleybus fleet. In 1961, the bus was re-classified as ‘RM3′ to allow the ‘RML’ designation to be used for the new longer Routemasters.
After 1963, the vehicle became disused and saw parts removed to keep its fellow Leyland prototype (the Green Line version) roadworthy. In 1965, however, the bus was repaired and overhauled, losing its distinctive and unique design of bonnet, grille and nearside mudguard in the process and receiving a standard production version instead. In this form, it returned to training duties until April 1972. After a period of storage, it was acquired by the then Cobham Bus Museum in 1974, thus becoming the very first Routemaster to be privately preserved.

Edwin is a stickler for detail and blocked this picture, lol sort of. He was bothered that I got a picture of the fitting between the Vacuum Pump and valve cover. It is the wrong size and temporarily has it held in place.
Steam Engine Number 1774 was built Baldwin Lomotive Works in 1901. It was one of 335 engines of this class built by Baldwin from 1899 to 1901 and number 1774 is one of seven steam engines that are in existenc today.
Engine number 1774 was acquired by Arizona Eastern Railroads between 1910 and 1924. In 1924 Southern Pacific Railroad took over and the engine was assigned to main line freight, during World War II the engine was used to pull troop trains and to haul freight to military bases in Arizona and Southern California. Around 1945-1946 the engine was reassigned to the Globe-Miami bowie run pulling both passenger and freight trains.
For the Statistics minded, rail fans no 1774 has 63 inch drives, 21 inch cylinders with a 28 inc stroke and boiler pressure of 200 pounds. Weight on the drivers is 159,000 pounds. Light weight is 164,340 pounds. After 54 years, engine number 1774, a veteran of more than three million miles of service over the eight-state southern pacific railroad system, was presented to teh city of Globe on november 2, 1959. A spur was built by volunteers of the ironworkers local #75 and the old steam engine number 1774 was relocated to its present site, The Veterans Memorial Park.

An interesting lesson about underwater photography that I learned from Brad is that instead of finding the interesting animal to take a picture of, find the visually interesting location where they could be. Nooks and crannies are great for framing the subject. Different textures are also key. Then look for the right lighting conditions and wait for fishes to come through.
Since we don't have high-tech underwater cameras, this method seems to work well. At first, I kept thinking my camera sucked at taking pictures underwater. But all I needed was the right conditions: a depth of 15-20 feet and early mornings or late afternoons. It's not easy, but it was still fun!
