'VALENTINES DAY - SHARE THE LOVE.'
I thought this might be an appropriate posting for 14th February - (with some stretch of the imagination).
The two Grey Heron chicks had eyes only for each other when I made the image back in 2016. I think their intense gazes were part of sibling bonding behaviour in the confined nest space, rather than true love!
You can see a considerable size difference between the chicks, denoting different hatching dates. Their dishevelled, scruffy appearances made them extremely endearing subjects.
Her gaze is velvet gravity -unavoidable, soft, but irresistible. It doesn’t demand; it invites. The moment your eyes lock with hers, time begins to bend around suggestion, the edges of thought blurring into her whispered cadence. Her voice curls around your mind like warm silk, and suddenly, you’re not quite sure whose desires you’re following anymore. Is it hers - or yours, now rewritten by the rhythm of her intention?
She doesn’t need to wave a pocket watch or count backward. Her eyes do the counting, the leading, the rewriting. Behind them isn’t just darkness; it’s choreography. A slow dance of surrender dressed in azure stares. And all she says is, “Look into my eyes,”- as if that alone weren’t already everything.

Photo prise en octobre 2021. Il y avait tellement de brume ce matin-là autour du pont que j'ai dû attendre de longues minutes avant de voir quoi que ce soit et de pouvoir enfin faire quelques clichés...
A deep red rose emerges from darkness, its velvet petals catching just enough light to reveal their richness. Set against a black background, the simplicity draws focus to texture, tone, and the quiet elegance of a single bloom.
Went for a walk near home and got lucky with the light.

I was honoured to be invited as one of the guest speakers at the 125th birthday celebration of the Cape Town Photographic Society... which was held this weekend at the De Hoop Nature Reserve in the Overberg region of the Western Cape.
One of the most photographically-appealing features of the De Hoop Nature Reserve is the huge dune-field... which lies adjacent to the coastline... and is one of the largest intact dune-fields in South Africa. De Hoop presents endless opportunities for photographers... with something interesting for everyone. From macro photos of the fynbos and insects... landscape shots of dunes and ocean... to telephoto shots of Cape mountain zebra, eland, bontebok, birds and whales.
The congress was a huge success... despite the cold and some rainy conditions... we had plenty of absolutely spectacular light!

One more from the backyard from approximately a year ago. I have not noticed one of these guys this year. Hopefully there is still time to see one this season.
I have a full day planned for tomorrow so I will be posting something later this evening and will catch up on commenting either tomorrow night or the following day.
beneath the soaring dome of light and steel, a man walks toward the flag — silent, solitary, framed by reflections that bend the space around him. here, architecture becomes symbol, and a fleeting step echoes like a question left unanswered.
Power isn’t givenit’s awakened in fire and fury.
Shadows bend where my will begins.
Bound to chaos, yet in full control of the storm.
Even monsters know who truly commands the darkness.

stone remembers light differently than flesh. these windows admit the same patterns for centuries while we pass through once, briefly part of the geometry. the path is illuminated but not explained. we walk it because the alternative is standing still in darkness, and that is not walking at all.
Shot in bold monochrome from the Brooklyn Bridge, this image captures the jagged Manhattan skyline behind a grid of suspension cables. The sun blazes through the haze, flattening the skyline into silhouette and casting the whole scene in stark contrasts. The convergence of structure and skyline creates a layered tension—geometry meets chaos, light meets shadow.

A sprawling futuristic megacity stretches endlessly beneath a night sky torn apart by spectacular cosmic phenomena. Thousands of skyscrapers with organic, cybernetic architecture rise like metallic cathedrals, entangled in a dense ქსwork of glowing cables and pulsating mechanical structures, resembling a living urban nervous system.
In the foreground, a towering spire of dark steel and luminous fibers coils upward toward the heavens, its surface alive with electric arcs and streams of shimmering energy. At its peak, a lone human figure stands in silence, dwarfed by the immensity, gazing into a universe in transformation.
Above, a colossal dark planetary sphere dominates the sky, encircled by fractal rings made of stardust, radiant energy, and luminous debris. Several other celestial bodies orbit nearby, some connected by blazing filaments of energy cascading down toward the city like cosmic rainfall. Stellar explosions and radiant bursts pierce the darkness, casting golden and bluish reflections across the metallic surfaces below.
Dense, turbulent clouds drift slowly, partially illuminated by the celestial chaos, adding depth and dramatic tension to the atmosphere. On the horizon, similar towering structures emerge, repeating the pattern of interconnected spires, suggesting a civilization fully intertwined with an unknown cosmic force.
Hyperrealistic style, cinematic 8K rendering, extreme depth of field, volumetric lighting, high contrast, microscopic detail, ultra-refined metallic and luminous textures, epic and mystical atmosphere, fusion of science fiction and cosmic sublime, wide-angle composition with immersive perspective.

What’s going on guys? Weekend is getting closer and I’m already feeling that mood is getting little lighter! So let me add some sunshine to the mix as well as promised. This is taken a few days back from 15mil away. What do you think?

This incredible view was completely hidden behind the clouds when I was on my way heading down. So I almost missed this epic scene.
I quickly unpacked all my gear and started shooting with everything I had.
No photo or video can really do justice to the beauty and scale of what I saw. I was honestly blown away.
A kestrel pauses on a metal post, eyes locked on the ground below. The tangled backdrop of green and gold branches frames its focused stillness, while soft light carves out every feather and curve. This moment—quiet, alert, and precise—captures the essence of wild observation.
Photographed in Belgium.
I didn’t mean to end up here.
One second I was walking like normal… the next, the air changed. It got colder. Heavier. Like my lungs forgot how to breathe for a second and my skin could feel the dark pressing in from every direction.
I swear I heard it before I saw it… that low, distant hum. Like something was alive underneath the floor. Like the walls were listening.
And then it happened.
The ground didn’t crack. It didn’t break. It just… gave up.
Like the world decided I didn’t belong on the safe side anymore.
I fell—
Not like a normal fall either. More like being pulled. Dragged. Swallowed.
And when I opened my eyes again… everything was wrong.
The shadows were thicker here.
The fog clung to my legs like it was trying to keep me.
And those twisted roots… curling, reaching… like they were waiting for me to move the wrong way.
I could feel the Upside Down watching.
That’s when I realized the only thing I could control was me.
If I was going to survive in a place like this, I couldn’t look scared… I had to look like I belonged here.
So I did.
I straightened up, fixed my stance, and let the darkness see exactly what it dragged in.
Not prey. Not a victim.
A threat. 💜
And honestly?
The deeper I went, the more it felt like this place wasn’t trying to scare me away…
…it was trying to claim me.

Here are a few of the 13 million bricks in Ft. Pulaski. How many modern masons could do this? A young Robert E. Lee was here as a 2nd Lieutenant during construction. The Howitzer cannons at Ft. Pulaski, a number of which can still be seen, were smooth-bore guns. When Union forces attacked with rifled Howitzers, the fort fell in less than two days.

in the labyrinth of palma's streets, i met defiance with a silver mane. the man's eyes, heavy with untold sagas, bore into mineâa storm behind glass. his finger, outstretched, blurred but resolute, spoke louder than words. the light danced gently on his wild beard, a contrast to the sharp lines etched on his face. there was a challenge here, a dare, but also a quiet understanding. this was not just a portrait; it was a declaration.
