soft opening. new studio. two lenses, one question: how close can you get before a face becomes landscape? testing the sigma 135mm f/1.4 art on leica sl3 against the sony 135mm f/1.8 gm on a7rv. the verdict will come - blog review and video are in the works. but some answers don’t need pixels or charts. they’re in the pores, the light caught in an iris, the terrain of years written into skin. proximity is not intimacy. intimacy is what remains when you strip away the safe distance. first frames from a new chapter.

Europe - Portugal - Portuguese archipelago - Madeira Island - East Coast - Ponta de São Lourenço - Sao Lourenco - Nature Reserve with wonderful panoramic views of the Atlantic and spectacular volcanic rock formations
Month of June with its longest days offers wonderful fully lit rocky shore by setting sun on the other side, that said if you are lucky and have a sun light at all. Madeira weather can be really playful and the island often hides in large clouds. I waited on this spot for 3 hours, just in case the sun showed up for short period of time. This wonderful light lasted only for 10 mins at the end of the long cloudy wait.

Northern Africa - Kingdom of Morocco - Sahara Desert - Zagora Province - M'Hamid El Ghizlane - Erg Lehoudi - Er Lihoudi - Classic desert landscape with constantly changing sand dunes, lines and shapes - Large sea of dunes formed by wind-blown sand
Windy desert is always great to experience and capture, just the camera is not always happy. This part of Sahara desert might not have the biggest sand dunes, as those in Merzouga, but it is way less touristy these days, so it is wonderful to spend some time there. The sky in desert is wonderfully dark with minimum light pollution, which gives a great sight, which you can also see in the

A deep crimson iris is captured in detail against a dark background. A bright red ladybug rests on one of its petals, adding contrast.
This was started from a photo I took and then placed in Night Cafe. I then put it into Photoshop, where I used Camera Raw to enhance clarity, color, and tone.

Europe - Faroe Islands - Faroes - Føroyar - Færøerne - Island group & archipelago under the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Denmark situated between the Norwegian Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean - Island of Viðoy - Vidoy Island - Viderø - Norðoyar Region - Viðareiði - The northernmost settlement in the Faroe Islands - Classic view of Vidareidi church with cliffs of Bordoy and Kunoy islands
This is by far my most favorite combination of light - the warm evening light against dark stormy weather with something interesting in the frame. Faroe is a such special place with weather that often changes every 5 minutes, so any moment like this was always hugely appreciated (as short as it always was !)

Europe - Faroe Islands - Faroes - Føroyar - Færøerne - Island group & archipelago under the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Denmark situated between the Norwegian Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean - Vágar Island - Sorvagsfjorour - Sørvágsfjørður - Gásadalur & its famous waterfall - Village of Gásadalur is probably one of the most popular locations for photographers in the Faroe Islands
Standing on this stunning spot was surely an unique experience, I remember the super windy conditions while we were nearly blown away while trying to take a single reasonable shot. The short window when sun was actually shining was super brief, I'm sure huge storm came shortly after that and we must have run back towards the car to hide. We used to call it "ugly" is coming again. The most frequent statement of the trip in Faroes !

The title encapsulates a precise and severe biological reality where two distinct physical dysfunctions amplify one another, subject to a constant state of bodily attrition. From a scientific standpoint, having the body perpetually wet due to hyperhidrosis forces the skin into a continuous process of forced evaporative cooling. Evaporation is the body’s most efficient mechanism for heat dissipation; for every liter of sweat that evaporates, the organism loses approximately 580 kilocalories. In a healthy individual, this mechanism serves to cool down the body during physical exertion; however, in chronic hyperhidrosis, this process never shuts off, causing a continuous and uncontrolled drop in superficial core temperature, regardless of ambient conditions. To compensate for this massive, unyielding heat loss and to stabilize internal temperature (homeostasis), the organism is driven into an immense metabolic overload. Under normal circumstances, the lungs actively assist in thermoregulation through respiration. Yet, in the presence of a severely compromised respiratory system or post-pneumothorax sequelae, air reserves and gaseous exchange efficiency are drastically diminished. The pulmonary system lacks the baseline strength to sustain this unrelenting energetic demand, while the constant cooling induced by the wet skin forces the airways to constrict, exacerbating physical fatigue, tightness, and organic wear. Consequently, the water armor ceases to be a mere visual metaphor and turns into a real clinical stressor, crushing the body’s innate ability to defend its own breath.

Europe - UK - England - East Midlands - County of Rutland - Normanton Church on eastern shore of Rutland Water reservoir - St Matthew's Church - Grade II listed building built in classical style
In our heavily digitalized age, it is becoming more and more difficult to find less known locations to capture. This wonderful submerged church is one of my recent finds that I was not aware of till couple of months ago. The evening was wonderfully calm and the reflection was near perfect. Only downside of this evening session was the fact, that there was no artificial lighting at dusk. I asked about that in nearby hotel and they said that the lighting of the church seems rather random.

I love those moments in between rain showers when the sun peeks through the clouds and everything is illuminated against the blue-grey sky.
Not to conquer, but to protect.
Not to dominate, but to defend what’s sacred.
He stands not for glory, but for grace.
His strength is measured not in how loud he roars,
but in how long he listens.
He does not seek battle,
but he will not abandon the gate.
He holds the line - not for power,
but for peace.
Because some things - truth, dignity, love -
are worth guarding with everything we are.
he takes a drag, exhales slowly. the smoke lingers for a moment, then disappears, just like thoughts drifting away. silence in a crowded place. time pauses between the inhale and the exhale.
I've been sat on this since I shot it in September last year on Kinder Scout's northern edge, my favourite place in the whole of the Peak District. With the weather being equally as moody so far this July, I thought I'd publish it.
The day started out very sunny but bands of weather were forecast to sweep in from the north, which they did. These bands of weather brought with them some incredible dappled light and very dramatic looking skies.
The heather had well truly passed it's best in this part of High Peak, leaving the landscape in hues of coppery-brown, muted greens and pale yellows that provided a really Earthy palette complimenting the raw feeling that the elements had that day.

Desert has always been my passion, I love to play with its shadows, shapes and views it offers. Morocco has something additional to that - man in blue ! :-) I just love the contrast of the deep orange color of the sand and the bright blue color of the traditional local dress.
Morocco and especially Sahara desert with its very dark skies is perfect for seeing and also capturing the night sky with the glorious Milky Way. The sky in the desert is wonderfully dark with minimum light pollution, which gives a great sight, which you can also see in the :

A timeless silhouette rising from the mist.
In black and white, the soul of Mont-Saint-Michel reveals itself—raw, dramatic, and eternal.
Where stone meets sky, and light carves history into every shadow.
Light makes all the difference - by day only a boring beech grove, at night correspondingly illuminated a gate to fantasy land

**Prompt:**
A young female space explorer stands perfectly still in a dense, bioluminescent alien forest. She wears a slightly worn white spacesuit, marked with subtle scratches and signs of previous expeditions. Her transparent helmet reflects the organic glow around her, casting shifting violet and magenta highlights across her focused, intense face.
Hovering just inches from her is a strange, otherworldly creature, resembling a fusion between an amphibian and a luminous cosmic entity, like a celestial axolotl. Its semi-translucent body pulses with internal pink and violet light, while delicate, glowing tendrils drift and ripple as if suspended in water. Its large, radiant eyes convey an uncanny intelligence, locked onto the explorer in a silent, charged moment of connection.
The environment is a lush extraterrestrial jungle, saturated with surreal colors: deep purple foliage, glowing mushrooms, towering organic structures with wet, textured surfaces. Tiny particles float in the air like stardust, catching the light. The ground is damp, crossed by a shimmering stream reflecting the alien sky above.
In the background, a massive blue-gray celestial body looms low in the sky, partially veiled by thick, dramatic clouds. The atmosphere feels heavy, almost electrically alive, hinting at a sentient ecosystem. A thin mist weaves between the trees, enhancing depth and immersion.
Cinematic lighting: a cool, moonlit backlight contrasts with warm, organic glows emitted by the flora and the creature. Shallow depth of field, razor-sharp focus on both subjects, with a softly blurred background filled with bioluminescent bokeh.
Hyperrealistic style, ultra-detailed 8K rendering, highly refined textures (fabric, skin, organic surfaces), inspired by contemplative science fiction. Balanced face-to-face composition, strong narrative tension, capturing a suspended moment between discovery and connection.
Camera: tight side profile shot at eye level, slow forward dolly movement.
Suggested sound design: deep silence, faint organic rustling, subtle rhythmic pulses from the creature.

Exploring the rocky shores around Saint-Malo at low tide, I was captivated by this dramatic perspective of the famous corsair city under threatening skies. The retreating waters revealed these weathered granite formations that have witnessed centuries of maritime history, creating a perfect foreground for the imposing ramparts.
My intention was to capture Saint-Malo in its most authentic element - as a fortress built to withstand both human enemies and oceanic fury. The stormy atmosphere seemed fitting for this city that was home to pirates and privateers, while the dramatic lighting emphasized the robust stone architecture that has protected the inhabitants for over 800 years.
This image represents what draws me to Brittany's coast - these moments when weather and history converge to reveal the true character of these maritime strongholds. Saint-Malo wasn't built for fair weather tourism; it was forged by storms, sieges, and the relentless Atlantic. Sometimes the most compelling photographs of historic places emerge not on perfect blue-sky days, but during these moody moments when you can almost feel the weight of centuries.
