Europe - Finland - Suomi - North of the Arctic Circle - Finnish Lapland - Lappland - Lapponia under fresh cover of snow during winter time
No single Northern Lights photo does true justice to what is happening on the sky during those unique moments when Northern Lights appear. After incredible experience of capturing my first ever timelapse in Iceland last year, I've headed to Frozen land of Arctic Lapland to capture Northern Lights under snowy landscape, which is often difficult to find along the coast. Average temperatures around - 25C dont make it particularly friendly experience, but the one which will always be treasured.

in a quiet corner of the world, away from the clamor of everyday life, a woman's smile breaks through the monochrome. subtle light dances on her face, tracing the contours of her joy. her eyes, half-hidden in the shadows, sparkle with a gentle, knowing gleam. she is draped in a scarf, the patterns of which tell tales of the places she has seen and the roads she has walked. this moment, captured in shades of gray, speaks volumes of her quiet resilience and fleeting moments of happiness.
A two-lane highway cuts straight through the sagebrush flats of the American West, vanishing into the heart of a building supercell. The storm dominates two-thirds of the frame — dark anvil clouds pushing skyward on the left while a curtain of rain or dust veils the right side in warm ochre haze. A lone rocky butte on the horizon grounds the scene, dwarfed by the atmospheric drama unfolding above it. The light is cinematic and tense, the kind that makes you press the accelerator and reach for your camera at the same time.

Not exactly the image I wanted to post for Canada Day, however it's a time for us Canadians to reflect on what a great country we live in ;)

IC 2083 Hamburg-Altona - Berchtesgaden Hbf
Kein Nebel in Sicht.

Europe - Portugal - Portuguese archipelago - Madeira Island - East Coast - Ponta de São Lourenço - Sao Lourenco - Nature Reserve with wonderful panoramic views of the Atlantic and spectacular volcanic rock formations
Month of June with its longest days offers wonderful fully lit rocky shore by setting sun on the other side, that said if you are lucky and have a sun light at all. Madeira weather can be really playful and the island often hides in large clouds. I waited on this spot for 3 hours, just in case the sun showed up for short period of time. This wonderful light lasted only for 10 mins at the end of the long cloudy wait.

Europe - Iceland - South Iceland - Vík í Mýrdal during Northern lights, also known as Aurora Borealis produced by solar wind particles guided by Earth's field lines to the top of the atmosphere
This was one of those rare nights with solar activity so strong that it was seen all the way down to south of UK or even France. It was very special & sleepless night full of wonder, if you wish to see this particular sequence (2-3 hours in few seconds) in motion, it is the ending part of this timelapse video (with many other great sights and views).

This ceramic sculpture by Virgil Ortiz seamlessly fuses traditional Cochiti Pueblo pottery motifs with futuristic, sci-fi creature design for his Revolt 1680/2180 storyline.
Form & Motifs
Morphology: The figure features a stylized, crouching hybrid creature with a high, serrated dorsal ridge, elongated paws resting flat on the pedestal, and an angular, downturned snout.
Surface Design: It utilizes a high-gloss raku or crackle-glaze finish, covered in fine spiderweb-like craquelure. Bold black slip patterns wrap across the off-white body, featuring sweeping feather/flame motifs, geometric band accents around the ankles, and stylized facial markings around the eyes.
Color Palette: The design relies on the signature high-contrast black-and-white Cochiti color scheme, enhanced by a deep indigo blue accent along the spine and dorsal fin.
Lighting & Atmosphere
Exhibition Staging: Displayed on a dark pedestal, the polished glaze reflects crisp highlights.
Ambient Lighting: Cool cyan and deep blue spotlights illuminate the background, casting soft curved shadows that accentuate the smooth contours and graphic lines of the sculpture.
In Virgil Ortiz’s futuristic Revolt 1680/2180 universe, this zoomorphic figure functions as a sentinel and ancestral guardian—a spirit protector stationed to defend Pueblo culture and land across time.
The Last Sovereigns & Guardians: Within the Continuum: Blindfall, First Strike narrative, Ortiz envisions time-traveling warriors and spiritual allies known as The Last Sovereigns. Animal sentinels like this one act as scouts, watchers, and spirit guides. They track the movements of the invading forces, warn the Pueblo runners and archers, and protect sacred clay and cultural artifacts from destruction.
Spiritual & Physical Defense: Positioned low in a crouching, vigilant stance, the creature embodies alertness. Its sharp dorsal spines and steady, wide-eyed gaze symbolize constant watchfulness against colonial encroachment.
Bridging Epochs: By blending ancestral Cochiti clay techniques and geometric slip motifs with sleek, alien-like morphology, the creature represents the survival and evolution of Indigenous heritage—showing that Pueblo traditions are not static relics of the past, but living, futuristic forces capable of enduring into 2180 and beyond.

For more than twenty years, Virgil Ortiz (American, Cochiti Pueblo, b. 1969) has been developing Revolt 1680/2180, an expansive project that brings global attention to Po’pay, the Tewa leader who led the Pueblo Revolt of 1680 against Spanish occupation, and to the enduring strength of Pueblo culture.
Collaborating with lifelong friend Eric F. Garcia (American, b. 1968), the two artists spark a vital exchange: Pueblo and Spanish legacies weaving, colliding, and transforming through clay, imagery, and form—reclaiming the past and inviting us to witness the story reimagined, set ablaze with possibility. For the latest chapter, Continuum: Blindfall, First Strike, the two artists invite viewers into the epicenter of the Revolt.

The new mexico museum of art vladem contemporary, often just called the Vladem Contemporary by locals, stands as a vibrant, essential expansion of the New Mexico Museum of Art, offering Santa Fe and the wider Southwest a dedicated, state-of-the-art venue specifically designed to showcase the challenging, thought-provoking, and diverse world of contemporary art. It’s not just another gallery; it’s a dynamic cultural catalyst, firmly placing Santa Fe on the map as a serious destination for cutting-edge artistic expression, right alongside its historical charm.
The establishment of the new mexico museum of art vladem contemporary represents a pivotal moment for the New Mexico Museum of Art (NMMOA) and for Santa Fe itself. For decades, the NMMOA, housed in its iconic 1917 Pueblo Revival building on the Plaza, has been a beloved institution, a veritable treasure trove of New Mexico’s artistic legacy, stretching from the early 20th century to mid-century modernism. But, let’s be real, its historical architecture, while charming and significant, wasn’t exactly built for the scale, technology, or often unconventional demands of contemporary art. Think about it: massive installations, video art, performance pieces – they often need sprawling, adaptable spaces with high ceilings, controlled environments, and a certain industrial flexibility that a historic building just can’t easily provide. This was the fundamental “problem” that the Vladem Contemporary was designed to solve.

Captured inside the botanical garden, this orchid stood out immediately against the darker background. The deep crimson petals felt almost velvety in the light, with subtle white edges outlining each bloom. I am always drawn to contrast. Light against shadow. Color against depth. This one felt both dramatic and refined at the same time.

Northern Africa - Kingdom of Morocco - Sahara Desert - Zagora Province - M'Hamid El Ghizlane - Erg Lehoudi - Er Lihoudi - Classic desert landscape with constantly changing sand dunes, lines and shapes - Large sea of dunes formed by wind-blown sand

The sky in desert is wonderfully dark with minimum light pollution, which gives a great sight, which you can also see in the

he laughed at all of it. the years, the sun, the camera. everything was funny if you looked at it right.
The clock says noon, but the Arctic sky tells a completely different story. After months of total winter darkness, the sun finally edges above the horizon in Pond Inlet, painting the frozen landscape in a surreal, ethereal canvas of deep violet, soft magenta, and ice-blue. It is a fleeting, monumental moment—the first sunrise of the year.
Yet, life in the high north doesn't pause to merely spectate. Against the backdrop of snow-swallowed rooftops and stark utility lines, the heavy hum of a CAT loader breaks the crisp, sub-zero silence. Its headlights cut through the twilight glow, a beacon of determination as it clears the drifted roads. The polished steel of its blade catches the metallic reflections of the dawn-lit snow, transforming a routine chore into a dramatic battle between human resilience and the relentless Arctic elements. This is noon in Nunavut: a breathtaking intersection of extreme nature and the everyday grit it takes to thrive here.

Europe - Faroe Islands - Faroes - Føroyar - Færøerne - Island group & archipelago under the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Denmark situated between the Norwegian Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean - Island of Viðoy - Vidoy Island - Viderø - Norðoyar Region - Viðareiði - The northernmost settlement in the Faroe Islands - Classic view of Vidareidi church with cliffs of Bordoy and Kunoy islands
This is by far my most favorite combination of light - the warm evening light against dark stormy weather with something interesting in the frame. Faroe is a such special place with weather that often changes every 5 minutes, so any moment like this was always hugely appreciated (as short as it always was !)

Standing on this stunning spot was surely an unique experience, I remember the super windy conditions while we were nearly blown away while trying to take a single reasonable shot. The short window when sun was actually shining was super brief, I'm sure huge storm came shortly after that and we must have run back towards the car to hide. We used to call it "ugly" is coming again. The most frequent statement of the trip in Faroes !

Europe - UK - England - East Midlands - County of Rutland - Normanton Church on eastern shore of Rutland Water reservoir - St Matthew's Church - Grade II listed building built in classical style
In our heavily digitalized age, it is becoming more and more difficult to find less known locations to capture. This wonderful submerged church is one of my recent finds that I was not aware of till couple of months ago. The evening was wonderfully calm and the reflection was near perfect. Only downside of this evening session was the fact, that there was no artificial lighting at dusk. I asked about that in nearby hotel and they said that the lighting of the church seems rather random.
