A return trip in the dark to Rowtor Rocks in the Peak District, this time with a long overdue appearance of Tim G.
Tim had never visited here before so after we caught up on all the gossip like a pair of old wives, I gave Tim the 10 cent tour after which he was keen to shoot these rocky steps.
I can't take credit for the lighting here. Walking with a backlight scanner in the dark is tricky enough never mind whilst walking down these ankle breaking steps! Tim made it look easy and this is the result.
If I had attempted a descent in the dark down those steps, I would almost certainly be writing this note from a hospital bed...

'VALENTINES DAY - SHARE THE LOVE.'
I thought this might be an appropriate posting for 14th February - (with some stretch of the imagination).
The two Grey Heron chicks had eyes only for each other when I made the image back in 2016. I think their intense gazes were part of sibling bonding behaviour in the confined nest space, rather than true love!
You can see a considerable size difference between the chicks, denoting different hatching dates. Their dishevelled, scruffy appearances made them extremely endearing subjects.
One more from the backyard from approximately a year ago. I have not noticed one of these guys this year. Hopefully there is still time to see one this season.
I have a full day planned for tomorrow so I will be posting something later this evening and will catch up on commenting either tomorrow night or the following day.
a priest sits alone in the penumbra of basilica di san crisogono, his gaze caught between silence and something unseen above. light slips across his robe like a passing thought, revealing the wear of years and the weight of belief. within these centuries-old walls, shadows speak gently, and faith feels carved into stone.
I was honoured to be invited as one of the guest speakers at the 125th birthday celebration of the Cape Town Photographic Society... which was held this weekend at the De Hoop Nature Reserve in the Overberg region of the Western Cape.
One of the most photographically-appealing features of the De Hoop Nature Reserve is the huge dune-field... which lies adjacent to the coastline... and is one of the largest intact dune-fields in South Africa. De Hoop presents endless opportunities for photographers... with something interesting for everyone. From macro photos of the fynbos and insects... landscape shots of dunes and ocean... to telephoto shots of Cape mountain zebra, eland, bontebok, birds and whales.
The congress was a huge success... despite the cold and some rainy conditions... we had plenty of absolutely spectacular light!
