It's 11:27 AM, but my internal clock is thinking 5:27 AM. My wife and I had taken off at 6:30 PM the night before from Chicago and gotten only a few winks of sleep on the flight to England. We've managed to stay awake enough to not miss our station stop at Kendal. In true British fashion, its overcast and the wind is blowing like the dickens. Now we have the fun challenge of communicating with people using very confusing northern English accents, using the best of my training from Monty Python, to find our hotel for the next two days.
On a rainy Saturday, Class 68 68001 leads the 1G03 1333 Norwich to London Liverpool Street rail tour. The rail tour was run by Greater Anglia to raise money for East Anglia's Children's Hospices (EACH).

Class 158 'Express Sprinter' Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) 158854 on platform 1 at Norwich Station in Norfolk (UK) waiting to depart with the 17:54 East Midlands Trains service to Nottingham.
Note the tail lamp and destination matrix have yet to be switched over. This task is usually carried out the moment the train arrives from its previous diagram.

In the poor summer of 1981 a class 108 unit has come out of the sidings at Barmouth and arrived at the platform to form a train to Machynlleth. The signalling required the level crossing gates to be closed for this manouvre, which are now reopening.
Direct Rail Services Class 37 locomotive, 37603 tails on the 0843 1Q18 Norwich CSD- London Liverpool Street STP WO Network Rail Test Train at a miserable Generals Lane overbridge near Boreham (UK) May 9th 2012. Note the raised pantograph further down the train.
37603 will have been in service for 50 years on May 18th 2012.
DB Schenker's class 66 (JT42CWR) number 66001 painted in Deutsche Bahn cherry red works 4E26 0750 (468Q) from Dollands Moor Sidings to Scunthorpe Redbourne Sidings with empty steel cradles on 10 January 2014. It was also photographed at Dollands Moor before setting off (www.flickr.com/photos/35502189@N03/11872539695/). Work on building 66001, the first class 66 to be built, began with its frames being laid on 18 May 1997. It was officially handed over to EWS on 23 March 1998 and unloaded from the Heavy Lift Ship MV "Fairload" at Immingham Docks on 18 April 1998 before undergoing testing at Toton depot and at the Engineering Research Centre at Derby. When loaded these wagons are used to transport steel from Tata Steel, Scunthorpe for export via the Channel Tunnel.
66001 was photographed hauling the same working (411A) on the same line 3 days later (www.flickr.com/photos/99279135@N05/11926088243/in/photost...).

New class 800 units, nos. 800201 and 800202, pass Gilbedyke on a glorious summer's evening.
The brand new, state of the art, trains provide an interesting contrast with the traditional signalling on the way to Hull. The LNER Hull service is due to be one of the first to receive the new Azuma trains.
Class 321 'dusty bin' 4 car Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) 321338 heads south into Hatfield Peverel Station on the Great Eastern Main Line in Essex (UK) with a London Liverpool Street bound National Express East Anglia service train.
Note the 'Great Eastern' decal on the front of the train and train dispatch paraphernalia on the left.

I could get away with getting on this train now, but it was pushing it a bit in 1984 to be on a Portsmouth Harbour - Newcastle SAGA charter. 37 271 was the engine, which worked from New St to Derby, where it failed moments after this photo was taken.

Merchant Navy class pacific No. 35012 United States Line rushes a down express through Surbiton on a freezing winters day in 1959. 35012 was scrapped at Cashmores in Newport 1967.

After a quick repaint or 5, I'd say I'm very happy with the class 37 design. It's very easily modifiable to any BR livery. I think my favourite is the BR dutch livery.

Preserved and mainline certified Brush Type 4 Class 47 diesel electric locomotive 47773 inside the shed at Tyseley Traction Maintenance Depot (TMD) open day on June 22nd 2013.
47773 entered service on August 14th 1964 as D1755 and was withdrawn in March 2004.
