After a morning trip to Magog to switch the Eka Chemicals sodium chlorate plant, Central Maine and Quebec's Sherbrooke switcher has reached St. Lawrence & Atlantic tracks at the Lennoxville diamond and is shoving to the small SLR Sherbrooke yard, about a mile and half away, where the two shortlines exchange cars.

Light was on and off - well, more off than on, actually. I wanted to find a view from a bit higher on the hills, but didn't manage to find what I wanted. It should be possible though, judging recent finds on the internet. It all became a bit frustrating, ending up in photos like the one below... I didn't drive this distance for this kind of photos. So, after this photo I moved on to something better.

Which path should I take?
The one that is straight, the one that was drawn for me?
Or the one that I draw myself?
Even if it means losing myself or winning everything?
.
A green flash in the corner of my eye while cruising on the highway caused a shout of enthusiasm. Could it be? Finally a DF100?
10 long minutes later we were at the station of Taza, admiring this French beauty under the warm Moroccon sun. We assume it stand here as a back-up, in case some other locomotive fails.

The A 3/5 was the last passenger steam engine built for SBB, after this they switched to electric power. So not as big as in other countries, but still a beautiful design.
This railroad viaduct - Viaduc Sainte Marie, Ligne Chamonix - crosses over Rte 205 and the river Arve (hidden on the right side and flowing under the wide arch) in the French Alps near Mont Blanc. Arve flows into the Rhone at Geneve. The sign cautions against falling or fallen rocks for the next kilometer. We're on a divided highway where the opposing traffic is in a tunnel within the mountain to the left.
SNCF: the Cerdagne narrow gauge line is one of the most picturesque railways in France. Known with the nickname of "Train Jaune" or "Canari", it has a length of 62.5 km, metric gauge and is electrified with a third rail at 850 V DC. It was commissioned between 1910 and 1927.
During most of the year, the two electric railcar snowplows are stationed at Mont Louis-La Cabanasse. Are the numbers ZDy 201 and ZDy 202, and were transformed from old van railcars 8 and 9, built by Carde et Cie. between 1908 and 1909. (Improved scan of a paper photo taken by me).
Sitting on a rocky slope filled with golf balls, we were able to catch 3 eastbound trains coming out of Tahoe National Forest in a relatively short amount of time. Without being hit by a golf ball, fortunately :)
This is the final photo of the series of last year's trip to the western United States. It were very intensive, but rewarding, 10 days and we had a lot of fun travelling, visiting places and making these photos.
I can't wait to go back to the west side of the Atlantic...
After this final shot, we packed our stuff and headed back to San Francisco to witness the Giants beat the Mets :)
CMQ's westbound road train glides into Foster, QC behind a trio of former CP SD40-2F's. This location was the site of a recent derailment, as evidenced by the new ballast and old ties in the ditch. Consist : CMQ 9011, CMQ 9020, CMQ 9010.
After working the Saint-Jude spur all morning, CN's Saint-Hyacinthe local is heading west to Southwark yard with veteran 4129 pulling two dozen cars. The high green on the south track is for SLR's train 394 returning from Southwark and headed towards Richmond on the old Grand Trunk line.
We had a private charter running on Sunday. This allowed me - beside of my other duties - to join the outside session with simulated approaches.
So here our beauty is coming along with its train of five carriages.
1 April 2025 – Eforie, Constanța County, Romania
EN - Along the quiet swathe of track between Tuzla and Eforie Sud, near the waters of Balta Tuzla and just inland from the Black Sea, two unlikely neighbors share a fleeting moment.
One sits silently on dry land—an old patrol boat, rusted with age yet still brightened by murals of the sun, waves, and summer motifs. Elevated on concrete blocks as a roadside monument, it is one of two nearly identical vessels placed along this stretch of coast. Here, on the route that links Constanța and Mangalia, the boat feels less like a relic and more like a decorative reminder of seaside holidays, when these beaches are crowded with summer visitors. It echoes of maritime heritage in this region.
Behind it, a blue diesel railcar hums through the frame, the R8384 local train, traveling from Mangalia to Constanța. This is a Malaxa Series 78 railcar, the unit #779, built in 1939 in Nicolae Malaxa’s Romanian workshops. Once celebrated as modern and elegant, these railcars are now among the oldest passenger units still in operation for CFR Călători. Few remain, and their survival on daily services is both improbable and remarkable, when newer rolling stock is unavailable.
Together, the scene is a juxtaposition of stillness and movement: a ship that will never sail again, painted in bright seaside colors, and a train that, against all odds, continues to roll along the Black Sea coast. One is time anchored; the other, time in motion.
