Rather early in the day it was done with scheduled loco-hauled passenger trains around Horna Stubna. This was the opportunity to travel north a bit, led by my photo companions of the day, to explore a bit of the busy mainline between Zilina and Presov.
They showed me the area around Svosov, where an old station building is still standing. The cross on the right is a plus, as was the soft evening light.

Les BB 66000 font de la résistance ! quel bonheur de voir ces engins encore rouler de nos jours ! malgré qu'ils soient comptés...
Les BB 66205 et BB 66207 encadrant la rame caténaire de Paris-Nord, effectuent un acheminement entre Épluches et Bois-Colombes pour du déroulage de câble qui se fera de nuit pendant à peu près deux semaines sur la région de Paris-Saint-Lazare. La rame est vue sur le groupe VI avec un retard d'1h17.
The Re 6/6 had just come in with a rather short train to be shunted over to couple the remaining train.

Not all people find sitting next to the water and waiting for a train a relaxing way of spending your time. Take for exaple the people on the right of the photo, wondering what the weird guy (me, in this case) is doing just waiting there. Never mind, I took my time looking for a viewpoint north of the Pont des Allemands, on the left bank of the Maas river, and stuck with this one.
You see Crossrail DE 6302 hauling containers over the Meuse river towards Germany.

Due to the arrival of the TGV Est in 2007 this station has undergone a métamorphose and also the square in front (le parvis) has been paved again. A place to be again!
La serie "El Expreso de Oriente" ha recibido el PRIMER PREMIO en el concurso "Caminos de Hierro".
Lo pongo con mayúsculas, a ver si así lo voy asimilando, que todavía no me lo acabo de creer. Porque, por encima del tema material, es que este concurso tiene un aura mítica para muchos de nosotros (para mí, por lo menos), desde hace muchos años. Ostras, que es el "Caminos de Hierro"!!!.
Me alegro de que les hayan gustado, y de que os hayan gustado a quienes las habéis visto, porque además el nivel era increíble.
Y para redondear el tema, el premio Autor Joven se lo ha llevado Jon Izarra, que también es de Vitoria. Gasteiz Power! ¡Vitoria es capital! ;DDD

The railway line running along lake Erie seems busy. I convinced my girlfriend for a short break along the tracks, and immediately saw headlights in the distance. A few seconds later a long doublestack container train rumbled over the 7-track railway crossing. In the background a Nestlé Purina plant, with the old Ralston Purina logo.

The Re 620 061 is rather dark on the sides - nearly black. So you still see the "cargo" signature, but it is more black than blue.
Here the locomotive brings a short train with special cars for premounted switches into Brugg.
A northbound Ferrocarril del Istmo de Tehuantepec (FIT) train is negociating the busy, tight quarters in the Canek and Alámbrica neighbourhoods of Mérida, YUC. Located nearby are Mérida's largest hospital, a medicine school, a military hospital and various other government buildings, which means the train's passage here rarely goes unnoticed, with many locals taking stills and videos using their phones. Consist : BOTX 3901, BOTX 1824, BOTX 2002, BPMX 3916.

La BB7282 dans sa livrée béton est vue en tête de l'Intercités de Nuit reliant Paris-Austerlitz à PortBou en Espagne. La rame est vue en gare de Toulouse-Matabiau en effectuant son arrêt de 54min avant de repartir plus au Sud.
On this fine August afternoon, CN dispatched a crew out of Pointe-Saint-Charles yard, on the island of Montréal, to Saint-Hyacinthe to pickup empty grain cars that have already been unloaded less than 24 hours after reaching Saint-Hyacinthe on train 846. Consist : CN 4129, CN 4772.

Under a high July mid-afternoon sun, CN's daily Joffre-Taschereau manifest flies into Sainte-Madeleine with a pair of BCOL engines leading. The containers on the head end were loaded with paper products at the F.F. Soucy mill in Rivière-du-Loup, which has recently acquired the equipment required to handle containers in order to ship its products this way. Consist : BCOL 4649, BCOL 4603.
CN 401 rounds the bend into Sainte-Rosalie with CN 2500 pulling GP9RM 7226, booster 259 and 58 cars. On the head pin is the usual cut of tridecks loaded with german automobiles. Consist : CN 2500, CN 7226, CN 259.
I don't know - we used to call them jiggers when I was a kid back in the Middle Ages. Other people no doubt had other names for them.
For some reason, we always decide to go out for night shots during the cold months of the year. If we would start at 7 or 8pm that would make sense, but usually we start around 10 or 11pm. *Mental note to go out for night shots during the warm summer months.
The night from january 22 to january 23 was a beautiful one. Light fog, no rain, perfect for driving around the silent port and finding some action. We got B-Logistics' 7727 and 7835 delivering cars containing chemicals near the Lanxess site.

After a strenuous trip through northern Maine and Québec's Eastern Townships, the May 29 edition of CPKC's Brownville-Montréal train is gliding into Adamsville, QC, at mile 120 of the Sherbrooke subdivision. Farnham yard lies some 11 miles ahead, where a new crew will take over for an evening turn to St. Luc yard.
The Saturday empy lime train 39710 from Ghent to Aisemont, seen on the scenic line 122.
Traction on this overcast day is provided by Lineas' 7712 and 7835.

CMQ's eastbound road freight is rolling into the station/village of Foster, about half way between Bromont and Eastman. Consist : CMQ 9020, CMQ 9010, CMQ 9023, CMQ 9021.
The quest for some freight trains brought me a bit further south, in Alt-Hoeselt. I parked the car close to the, by insiders well-known, curve and started walking. I didn't quite find what I was looking for, so this Crossrail train became a "panic" shot. On the photo you can judge the gradient, and thus understand why the loco is spitting out a lot of diesel fumes. You can also see my car in the back, and appreciate the massive *cough* distance walked to get here.
This is probably a train heading from Zeebrugge to Piacenza. The engine is working for Captrain Belgium these days.

The ICLE on VIA 606 and the engineer on CN 466 wave at each other as the southbound VIA train from Senneterre enters the siding at Fitzpatrick, just north of La Tuque, QC. With a clearance already in hand, CN's Garneau-Parent manifest will get underway as soon as the conductor lines the switch back for the mainline.
I shot a few more different angles of the viaduct before heading back to the car. As is too often the case, another train came while I was preparing to leave. A quick sprint, as only a railfan who just heard a train can produce it, resulted in this photo. I didn't think it would work out at first... but once edited I found this one to be one of the better shots I made that day. A reason, I think, is the low perspective, emphasizing the giant bridge.
