Recipe from Dough, Richard Bertinet

Made according to the VERY simple directions in My Bread. The method is so simple and makes Roman style, crusty, moist, open holed delectable bread.

a block off of Guadalupe Street on Rio Grande. Texas French Bread was destroyed by a fire back in late January. I had only just heard of its existence a few months before and planned on going there some time in the future. The building was built in 1939 as Shipwash’s Grocery. In the 60's it was an Italian Restaurant called The Rome Inn. After that closed in 1975 it became a blues club keeping the same name, The Rome Inn. Legends like Stevie Ray Vaughn played there. When that closed it was briefly a book store called Paperbacks Plus before becoming Studio 29, a punk/new wave venue. It became Texas French Bread in 1987. At this point the owners don't know what they will do but customers are hoping they will rebuild here or open at a new location.
