many different kinds of bread in many shapes and sizes in the bakeries- for the locals and the tourists.
The scoring on this bread doesn't look too nice and it has ragged edges. I think I shouldn't have rushed it...
This bread has a hardy, rustic flavor with a moist interior texture and just a little crispness around the edges. Recipe from "Baking with Julia" by Dorie Greenspan. The recipes in this book are based on Julia Child's PBS series by the same name.
It rose until it was enormous, so I didn't let to rise too much the second time, but it was still popping out of its breadpan.
I need help - I have two bread with jam shots and I like both! In both cases I wish I'd noticed that the jam bowl is not filled up enough but aside from that I can't decide if I like the shot with more bread or with more spoon. I think I'm leaning towards the one with the spoon - ie Bread and Jam 02

My daughter works at Panera and brought home this wonderful bread last night. It's AMAZING! And now, it's time to eat!
after we hinted about it for a few months and then waited for it to be unearthed from the garage, R's parents finally gave us their bread machine (purchased in 1989). no one told me it would make round loaves of bread. we wanted it to make sandwich bread, but the side and shape of these loaves aren't great for sandwiches.
also: R's dad said to keep it on the lightest setting, since otherwise it would burn the bread. but lightest = not baked. this bread is really gross and squidgy and flavorless.
I think the bread machine is headed to the basement.
Derst Baking Company had a booth at Taste of Savannah. At the end of the night, they had a BUTTLOAD of these little 2 slice sample packs left, and the woman at the booth said to my mom and I "Take as much of that as you want. We're not taking it back with us." So, my Mom... always all ABOUT a freebie... went and got a Boone's Farm box and loaded it UP! So now... We have more bread than I think anyone could possibly use. I have frozen about 10 of these little packs, and have another full loaf of the stuff. I just BOUGHT bread! Anyone got a good BREAD PUDDING recipe???

It's an oven. There's a window with a Uyghur lady making the dough on the inside and her husband kneeling to one side of the oven on the outside. She hands him balls of dough, he rolls them out and slaps them into the oven, where the dough sticks to the sides. The smell alone is enough to make you weep, especially after you've had a Chinese hotel breakfast. It cost one yuan, or about seven cents.
