because of the drought in South Africa and Kruger in particular the impalas have been hesitating to give birth but at least we saw a number of Impala lambs against the end of November

Badjao or Bajau means man of the seas, this tribal group is known as the Sea Gypsies because they move with the wind and the tide on their small houseboats called vintas, they can be found in many coastal settlements and inhabit the waters and shores of the Sulu archipelago.

A legend tells that these boat dwellers came from the shores of Johore in Indonesia, Princess Ayesha of Johore was betrothed to a Sulu Sultan but she really wanted to marry the Sultan from Brunei. One day, a large fleet of war boats escorted the Princess to Sulu, the fleet was intercepted by the man she really loved, the Sultan from Brunei, who kidnapped her and set sail back to Brunei. The escorting fleet could not return without the Princess and kept on sailing the seas, only mooring at uninhabited islands; some of them turned to piracy and roamed the seas to search for fortune and glory. Others only searched for food and became fishermen, the Sulu Sea had an abundance of fish that helped to sustain their livelihood, most of the daily catch was bartered with other tribes that lived along the shores and beaches. The Badjao still live in houseboats, clustered near the coastline of Southern Mindanao. But they also built stilt houses near fertile fishing grounds; these houses are a temporary refuge during times that these boathouses needed repairs. These wanderers of the Southern seas are born on the water, live on their boats and say they will only set foot on land only to die.

Every day. Every class. Every member that gives feedback (even from just staying in class, or pushing their limits; some come up too - which is magical. Doesn't matter if that happens every class. It still means a lot), but even more awesome the community of fitness lovers we build - this. This is why I love teaching.

Thank you to those who have allowed me to be a part of their fitness journey. It means as much to me as it seems to affect you. It inspires me to be better, give more of myself, to push ourselves to limitless possibilities.

i bought this in an op shop because it looked like it was the work of someone skilled, and it intrigued me.

as i drove home i looked again and somehow my mind must have remembered a lecture on west australian artists and the name guy grey smith came into my head.

i have only half tried to find out if it is or if it is not.

in a way, i dont want to know if its not. but on the other hand if it is i do want to know.

i like it - the lady in the charity store charged me $15.00 for it "because that frame is worth a lot you know"

money grabbing old biddy.

i never liked her since the day she informed me that the charity she worked for did not cater for aboriginals - then went on to explain how aboriginals were a waste of effort and were only out for a free ride.

it always astounds me when i hear these types of comments, but in this case it was a church based charity that deals in helping people get off drugs. obviously whiteys only.

so i hope it is by guy grey smith- as that will be more evidence of her blinkered existence.

and then, as if to prove to me that this woman was totally false... the frame broke when i got it home!!!

I would also like to add that her shop smells foul.

on the day i bought this painting though, it smelt like money.

and racism.

and hipocrisy.

i must one day find out if it is for sure, if only to share my good news with her.

ahahahahah silly old woman in the smelly shop!

Have you ever used a Lensbaby before?

Prince Charming bought me one for my birthday.

(what?)

I've never done that much with it because it's kind of tricky. Everything has to be done manually. Which doesn't kill me. I shoot manually most of the time anyway, but what I don't like to do manually is focus.

Lensbaby requires manual focus.

So, it has to be on.

Like, spot on.

Otherwise your image ends up looking like you rode by on a bicycle really fast trying to snap a picture.

Or that you desperately need glasses.

And an ibuprofen.

(blur headache, party of me)

The Lensbaby Sweet Spot focus can be rather challenging. Not as challenging as learning Greek or eating a teaspoon of cinnamon,

but slightly more challenging than trying to keep two kids entertained during the summer while their grandmother is visiting and it's too chilly for her to sit outside because she's from Arizona where it's 175 degrees, and the only thing you want to do is scream at them to stop behaving like heathens because they're embarrassing you in front of your mother-in-law.

(I'm guessing...)

(except not)

But, it's challenging, so I feel fairly good about saying that I made this image of my son watching ship simulator videos on his laptop

(and I made the kid in the image, too)

("Gross, Mom"....)

with my Lensbaby.

Uploading these WAY late. Sorry. Moving to new PC after being on the same Win7-Pro machine for like 8+ years (I don't like change!), and it's been a mini-nightmare. Caught these a couple weeks ago at my local BNSF / Santa Fe yard.

====================

FYI.

These were shot with a 7.5mm fisheye lens because of the location, and poorly corrected so they look somewhat normal...

====================

Decided to head out to my local yard on a Saturday, got there at 9:30 and I was the only one out at the freight side platform. After a half hour I noticed someone down at the other end that I thought I recognized. Messaged him, and yep, it was him. My dude PasadenaSubColin.

We were both out there to just enjoy the day, me catching freights, and him freights & Metrolinks. He's a good dude to have around, as he lets me know when something cool is on its way into the yard, and I appreciate that he's all plugged into the grid to give the "heads up" when something's coming soon.

Well, this time I had, or rather found out, the "Heads Up" about 15 mins before he let me in on what would be the joke of the day. There apparently was a bicentennial engine coming through the depot today on its way to a RR museum in Perris, CA. The 5704!!!!! Big whoop.... One dude chatted me up asking if I knew when "IT" was supposed to come through. I had no idea what he was talking about and told him I don't follow trains. :-)

15-20 mins. later Colin messages me an FYI, that there's a "Special" train about to roll through. I've been in this situation before. I'm there benching graff, and all of the sudden 20 cars pull up and a bunch of "Railfans" jump out of their cars, run over, take a few photos of the "Special" car(s), engine or train, and when it's gone, they're gone. I feel like these are the people who only get out of bed when something "cool" is rolling through town. I really doubt they care about day-to-day operations of the RR. And honestly there's no way they give a shit about the graff.

Most people out at the tracks are cool, but there's a certain group of people who seem to have zero social skills when something "Special" is coming through, and we had at least one on this day. Some dude that kept walking past us, standing in my spot, like he was going to shoot from there when I got there at 9:30, and he got there at Noon. Walking past us by inches, and not saying a word, head down... Walking in front of cameras that were filming, hanging around my backpack and gear while I was like 30 feet away, just weird, un-cool shit. I'm not down with any of this. But I don't want to burn this spot as a bencher and didn't start any trouble, even though I wanted to punch this dude.. GRRR!

Will not be posting flicks of this special train car. Sorry. I saw it, I flicked it, but the whole experience was crap, and it was just one engine, big deal. I was there for the graff that you're seeing me post.

Was hot, no clouds, and at my end of the platform I had a 2ft. x 3ft. spot of slowly moving shade that was cast by one of the platform lights. After a while Colin and I were sharing this tiny moving spot of shade. No worries, we get along just fine.

BTW: PasadenaSubColin is a FOAMER!!!!!!!! ;-p

Managed to re-flick a few cars that I caught at the beginning of the month at the other end of the valley. Anyway........ I'll be back to try and ID these pieces soon. Might take me a little longer than usual as, like I said before, new computer, new crap to deal with..

Stay safe out there homies.

And..... As always, Thanks to the writers!

Just saw the game on CSaw‘s photostream.

The game:

Make mosaic of your top 20 fav dolls on Flickr and not just your fav sculpts, your actual fav dolls on flickr that you follow because you love the character/ style etc.!

1. sui, 2. angel dust, 3. Sir Crocodile, 4. Untitled, 5. Haeryang, 6. Time stood still, 7. rosy, 8. day and night, 9. 3, 10. Takeru, 11. dreamy, 12. Veronica, 13. I fixed it, 14. "The Crow" - D.I.M. Minimee (Mark Dacascos), 15. Midori, 16. Little dancer, 17. Baby blue twin, 18. Ordinary Days, 19. Untitled, 20. Mio's new wig!

I decide not to chose dolls that I know their owners personally, cuz our relationship might make my choice isn't objective.

The reason that they are THE 20 dolls, not only wellmade outfits, beautiful faceup and perfect photo shooting by owners, but also these dolls have strong personality, and their characters connect with my emotion side, I believe to have the both side - from a doll's appearance to his/her aura - are all great, that's why these dolls are special to me.

I haven't see some of their new pics awhile, but I still miss them :)

Because you asked for it

Because everyone needs huge twenty-sided dice. ;) These were gifts for my friends in my D&D group- I made them in their favorite colors. I didn't measure these, but they're larger than a grapefruit. I still want to make three more, so I'll measure those then. It's hard to see the numbers on the green one, though. I wanted to do the paint in copper, but didn't have enough with me. Ah well, my best friend loves green and black, so it's fine. :)

I made sure not to overstuff them to keep them from becoming too round. I'm so used to stuffing plushie things tightly that this took some getting used to. And yes, they do work as dice because of this. I think. We've tried rolling them and gotten different numbers each time, so in theory they'd function. And if someone in the gaming group does something you don't like, you can always pelt them with one. lol!

This was kind of a pattern, kind of not. I originally got a pattern off Ravelry, but didn't like the way it was shaped (the triangles were a bit off), so ended up doing my own. I'll be able to make D4s, D6s, and D8s with no problem, but it'll be tricky when I go to make D10s and D12s.

Because my uncle was 35 when I was born, the years of his youth and young adulthood were a total mystery when I was a kid.

Having lived near my uncle for only a few years and then moved away permanently, I missed the opportunity to hear what his life was like in the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s.

My recent visit to Kansas helped fill in some of the blanks. I came across the New Years' card from 1936 at the The Barton County Historical Society, He was all of 16 then!

Because of the extremely poor production of oils from the preen gland, Anhinga’s feathers are not waterproofed with oils like most other water birds. Their plumage is ‘wettable’ but not ‘water-repellant’ and therefore can become waterlogged making them hardly bouyant .

Fortunately for the Anhinga, this works as an advantage. Not only can they dive deeper in the water chasing prey but can also stay longer swimming under water.

The only problem is that they have to dry their wings to get rid of all the moisture before the next dive.

The Spread-Wing posture, as seen here, might be intended also for ‘Thermo-regulation’. In that case, the Anhinga soaks up the sun’s rays to supplement its chronically low metabolic heat generation, and at the same time offsets partly its dangerously high rate of heat loss from convection and evaporation from wet plumage.

18 years later...

The confrence room was buzzing with conversations. There wasn't one person in that room who wasn't important in Gotham. Lawyers, policemen, doctors.

Suddenly the big double doors at the back of the hall opened. Everyone went quiet as a smartly dressed man walked into the room.

Bruce Wayne.

He was wearing a well-made black suit that looked very expensive. He had black hair neatley brushed into a comb-over. He got up to the front, greeted with applause from the audience. He stepped up onto the podium at the front of the room, and everything went quiet.

"Well," he said "what a greeting! I didn't realise I was that special!"

The crowed quietly laughed.

"I'm here today on a more serious note, though." He said solemnly. "I'm here about the crime issues in Gotham. This city has never been so engulfed in crime. Nearly every alley you go down has syringes in it. Slums are littered with murderers, arsonists, drug dealers, need I go on?"

The crowed were deathly silent.

"It looks like there is no way out of this mess that we're in. It looks like we are beyond saving. Well, I'm here to tell you that we're not. That there is hope. You may wonder who will save us from this terrible fate? Do you?"

The crowed nodded in unison.

"This man!" Bruce bellowed as another well-dressed man walked in.

"Harvey Dent!"

The crowed clapped louder this time as Dent stood in Bruce's place.

"Hello, ladies and gentlemen!" He said. "I'm not going to lie to you Gothamites, we need help. The crime problems have got worse. The Maroni's, the Falcones, everyone who is involved must be brought to justice."

The crowd did not stir.

"Just watch this, ladies and gentlemen." He pointed to a t.v screen in the corner of the room. It buzzed into life.

"Hello, Gotham. This is Harvey Dent showing you what a miserable place Gotham has become-"

Bruce wandered out. Alfred, his butler, was stood waiting for him.

"Did it go well, Master Bruce?" He asked.

"No, I couldn't take any more of it."

Alfred nodded.

"Lets just go home." Said Bruce as they walked out into the busy street.

I love my Billingham 335 very much a very nice handcraft bag that I've used for more than 15 years. I got its accessory that turn this camera bag to a backpack. I can carry my SLR cameras with 2 lens, a light meter, Flash and one TLR camera. (continue later)

Decided to go out Saturday because the weather was supposed to be cooler, and cloudy. Well it was cooler 85f. But zero clouds. I swear I'm going to move to a state that has clouds.

Got to my first spot, and found out they have now fenced the entrance path to the spot. A GIANT field with a path leading to my spot is not completely fenced. forcing me to walk about an mile out of my way to get to the spot. Yeah, I could have easily jumped the fence, walked through and jumped the next fence. There was so much traffic in the area I could just walk around. I need the exercise anyway.

The long walk to my spot took me pretty close to one of my favorite bridge spots, so I decided to hike up a bit and see what was new. A few new pieces and a few old favorites that were still there, un-touched. Those are in today's upload as well.

Got to my spot finally. This spot has a homeless "issue" but I've had nothing but pleasant interactions with anyone who's approached me. Mostly I think they are just curious what I'm doing out there for 5-6 hours standing around in one spot. As soon as I say "the trains.." they always go "oh, cool." So every time I go there I always take inventory of all of the people who are out there so I know where to keep an eye out. Got there at like 10:15AM and I see a guy coming out from under a tree about 200' away. Moving slow, and carrying a box. Moving the box from one place to another, then another box, etc. I'm not worried about this person.

About an hour into my session, I see a guy walking along in the wash below.. Looks about 60-65, with no shirt, and is about as tan as you can get. This guy has obviously been in the desert sun for a while. After a couple of minutes he gets to me, throws out his hand and introduces himself as "Jeff". Asks how I'm doing and what I'm doing out there. I said "the trains" and he nods. Says he's headed up to the gas station down the tracks and up the road, and asks if I want him to bring me something to drink. "nah, I'm good", "OK, see ya'" Oh, forgot to mention, Jeff had a fixed blade knife about 12" long strapped to the front of his belt. I also carry a knife when I go out, just in-case so I understood his carrying of a knife and seeing it didn't faze me.

Spent about 4 hours at that spot, and hit up another spot on the way home and flicked some other amazing pieces.

Was a great day out, and I had fun. Isn't that what it's all about!!? I even managed to flick some pieces from some of my favorite writes I haven't seen before!
