Silver Medal
6th Day
O glorious San Roque, because of your fervent love and devotion in following Jesus Christ, the Heavenly Teacher, you did make yourself the poorest of the poor, did travel from city to city begging your livelihood, and did seek no other treasure than the One God, the Possessor of all the things of this world. We ask you; give us strength to leave the passing riches and vanities of earth. Obtain for us, Great Saint, the grace not to pay heed to the temptations of greed for riches, but to seek God alone Who will rewards us in our resolution to avoid covetousness for the vain and passing things of this world. Grant us, San Roque, this and the other favors we ask in this novena, provided that they do not lead into sin and keep us from the infernal heat of hell. Show unto us, loving Saint, how to soften our hearts in charity towards our fellowmen, so that by so doing we may be worthy to receive the divine Charity and enjoy eternal glory. Amen
To God the Father
O Almighty God and Father of the poor, since You did strengthen San Roque by Your divine grace to help the sick with his admirable way of curing them, grant us your mercy through the merits of San Roque, that we may be spared from all sickness and contagion through his intercession, and that we may receive the grace to be delivered from the greatest evil, which is mortal sin ; so that after the trials of this life we may be worthy to be admitted into your eternal glory in heaven through Christ our Lord. Amen
I was always afraid of the furnace because I thought a baby T-Rex lived inside of it. If you visit I can show you why, but it doesn't show up in photos. I didn't know about the swastikas until after I moved out.
I think the house was built in the 1930s. As far as I know, this is a commercial furnace made before WWII using some imported German parts. I don't know if the family who built the house had any Nazi or German ties. None of the other appliances appear to be racist.
Because Joel looks kind of way better in the hat than I do. Drinks: virgin piña colada for Joel, virgin mango colada for me. Piña colada = still the best.

Because of the heat, the cats spent most of the day hiding from the sun. Under the chairs was a popular spot, as was under the camping gear.
Clint set his sleeping mat up in such a way that Oranjello could use it to hide from the sun.

Because of a scheduling blip (ours), we had to wait two hours in Strasbourg for a train to Paris. We went into a cafe across from the station. The owner said he had no kitchen help so he couldn't serve us food. Andy wanted to take a quick walk around central Strasbourg, so to give ourselves time for it we opted for a quick snack at this McCafe instead.
Because I can't help taking pictures of the beach at Viking Bay. This was the early May Bank Holiday weekend - not sure why the giraffe-shaped bouncy castle in the foreground wasn't inflated when the sands were filling up nicely with families needing to keep children entertained.
Because reguardless of his life in his later years, the man was a musical genius and we owe the world of pop to him.
RIP Michael Jackson.

Sad week for Hollywood.
This is my favorite photo so far. Hurrah for new fedora. Hopefully I won't smoosh this one, like all my others.

poem also: but Lydia does not hear because urgency has spilled words in waves right over her lips and so she dream-surfs from Central Park West towards the shores of the Met Museum at 82nd and Fifth. Her sunny mind burns with excitement.
what can be said for self-esteem?
a good photographer and press agent and promoter can really help!
I also remember these lovely wool coats with cozy upturned collars and "delicate" (Marilyn Monroe's word!) powder blue color.
Of course there is the "all I am wearing is Chanel 5" perfume and the special place at the throat to place one's forefinger just to feel the "pulse of it all" "the life in it all"
ENJOY AND ESTEEM !
Our little cabin! It was wider than it looked in this picture, because the screened in porch on the front is cutting off the rest.
Also lucky for us was that the bathroom was just across the path, and was very modern (no pits!), and heated. There were also individual shower rooms, so we showered each morning. 8-)
Jon and I wanted to know how these businessmen (see below) got in and out of this camp...apparently they had their servants do much of the work because there was a little building that used to be servants' quarters.
The history of this little camp area (and the park as a whole), taken from this page:
In 1898, the Alger-Smith Lumber Company began cutting the virgin pine forests of Northeastern Minnesota. A logging camp was set up on the shores of a lake the loggers called Nipisiquit, an Indian name from a tribe in New Brunswick, Canada, the logger's native country. They took the Algonquin names for New Brunswick landmarks and gave them to the lakes in Tettegouche.
In 1910, after removing most of the Norway and white pine, the logging company sold the camp and surrounding acreage to the "Tettegouche Club," a group of businessmen from Duluth who used the area as a fishing camp and retreat. One of its members, Clement Quinn, bought the others out in 1921 and continued to act as protector for the area until 1971 when Quinn sold Tettegouche to the deLaittres family. The deLaittres continued Quinn's tradition of stewardship for the land, beginning negotiations several years later for the preservation of Tettegouche as a state park.
During these years, the Nature Conservancy, a private land conservation organization, played a vital role (along with other concerned individuals and groups) in the transfer of ownership. Finally, on June 29, 1979, legislation was enacted establishing Tettegouche as a state park.

Some people hate dandelions popping up in their lawn, but I really don't mind . If you have pet rabbits, they love munching the leaves as a treat.
Have a dandy dandelion day...and forget the ugly frog .He will never turn into a prince, cause I'd never kiss his ugly mug ! ;-)
We needed a stop between Burgas and Istanbul, so we choose Babaeski because we had a response from a couch surfer there. The response mentioned something about receiving a plaque from the mayor for our efforts to get there, but we all thought it was a joke referring to how small the city was. Little did we know, when we arrived we were escorted to the hotel that we would be staying at while we were here- curtsey of the mayor! There were then three men who acted as our guides and followed us everywhere, even if they had to wait for hours in the hotel lobby while we took a nap and washed our clothes. They took us to eat traditional Turkish food, arranged a concert for us, and got us a page in the local newspaper. On our last day, we met the vise mayor and actually did receive a plaque of the city! And because the layout of the mayor’s office had an indoor balcony at every level (and because we are the balcony players) we had to give a concert on the balcony which everyone came out of their offices to watch!
Decided to go out Saturday because the weather was supposed to be cooler, and cloudy. Well it was cooler 85f. But zero clouds. I swear I'm going to move to a state that has clouds.
Got to my first spot, and found out they have now fenced the entrance path to the spot. A GIANT field with a path leading to my spot is not completely fenced. forcing me to walk about an mile out of my way to get to the spot. Yeah, I could have easily jumped the fence, walked through and jumped the next fence. There was so much traffic in the area I could just walk around. I need the exercise anyway.
The long walk to my spot took me pretty close to one of my favorite bridge spots, so I decided to hike up a bit and see what was new. A few new pieces and a few old favorites that were still there, un-touched. Those are in today's upload as well.
Got to my spot finally. This spot has a homeless "issue" but I've had nothing but pleasant interactions with anyone who's approached me. Mostly I think they are just curious what I'm doing out there for 5-6 hours standing around in one spot. As soon as I say "the trains.." they always go "oh, cool." So every time I go there I always take inventory of all of the people who are out there so I know where to keep an eye out. Got there at like 10:15AM and I see a guy coming out from under a tree about 200' away. Moving slow, and carrying a box. Moving the box from one place to another, then another box, etc. I'm not worried about this person.
About an hour into my session, I see a guy walking along in the wash below.. Looks about 60-65, with no shirt, and is about as tan as you can get. This guy has obviously been in the desert sun for a while. After a couple of minutes he gets to me, throws out his hand and introduces himself as "Jeff". Asks how I'm doing and what I'm doing out there. I said "the trains" and he nods. Says he's headed up to the gas station down the tracks and up the road, and asks if I want him to bring me something to drink. "nah, I'm good", "OK, see ya'" Oh, forgot to mention, Jeff had a fixed blade knife about 12" long strapped to the front of his belt. I also carry a knife when I go out, just in-case so I understood his carrying of a knife and seeing it didn't faze me.
Spent about 4 hours at that spot, and hit up another spot on the way home and flicked some other amazing pieces.
Was a great day out, and I had fun. Isn't that what it's all about!!? I even managed to flick some pieces from some of my favorite writes I haven't seen before!
Also witnessed a procession of like 100 Honda Groms and other motorcycles rolling by: youtu.be/H4uLI_EupHU
Thanks to all of the writers and fellow benchers. Stay safe out there. Look both ways before crossing!!

As usual, I'll be by in a few days to start #tagging pieces that that I recognise or can figure out. If you spot any errors, just let me know.
Because there isn't much about in winter, I thought I should have new kitchen project. This year I'm seeing what appears from an Acacia gall (note to self that I should get that gall book!) Uromycladium sp.. So far the project hasn't been too earth shattering, but I have had a few things appear. I'll keep adding if anything else turns up.
The Gall is from Black wattle and is caused by a rust fungus (Uromycladium sp.)
Because of a too difficult path including climbing passages we left the ridge descending 1000m and hiked two days in the woods. In a one-day-monster-adventure we climbed those 1000m up again and made all the missed ridge paths just with day packs.
Standing on the 5th summit above 2000m of this day we finally saw the lake where we have left the ridge two days before.
