Because he believes in miracles, miracles begin to happen. Because he is sure that his thoughts can change his life, his life begins to change. Because he is certain that he will find love, love appears.

I made this collage because this little black bee-like creature was swimming and diving into the pollen like it was orgasmic. I wish the photos had been sharper but he was diving in and out like a bat out of hell so I couldn't keep up! I hope it you enjoy anyway.

Busy as a Bee - Santa Gemita - 020322-8
This is the most magical photo I brought back from my Madeira trip. A little treasure for me, because being able to capture such a fleeting moment is something very special.
Originally we had planned something completely different for this day. And we were on the mountains on the opposite side. As you can already guess from here, the visibility was rather low there (it was basically close to zero). However, since we had once worked our way up what felt like 10,000 switchbacks on a very narrow and steep road (half of them in the fog and rain), we looked for an alternative nearby. This was then the valley of the nuns, a beautiful place in the middle of the mountains,
Opposite the small church, which can be seen at the front edge of the village, we had a coffee and the owner encouraged us to drive up here.
Since it was still raining on the other side of the valley, but the sun was just breaking through the cloud cover here, this fantastic rainbow suddenly appeared while we were still hiking.
You can probably imagine the rush that broke out for me to get the camera out of my backpack in time. This is one of two photos I was able to take, after which the rainbow was gone.

This is not really a bird shot... even because I have already captured this species much closer, in Brazil.
This Black-capped Donacobius seemed to be enjoying his shower, and I kind of like the composition with the rain :)

Because I needed something blue in my photo stream. No, really.
There's almost nothing better than watching the sun rise while savouring a cup of coffee.
Because this statue is at ground level it was often getting damaged so they put up a road sign to make people aware of it.
This is just because every Flickr feed needs a photo of a crocodile or alligator — *not* the footwear my son insists on wearing with socks, by the way. He tells me Crocs with socks is a thing. No offense if that’s your style where you live! 😉
I didn’t have a recent crocodile photo, so here’s Alfred the alligator. If I were his mummy crocodile, I’d definitely have named him Alfred. He’s got a bit of a thing for swimming in the rain, clearly. I swear I heard him singing:
I'm swimmin' in the rain,
Just swimmin' in the rain,
What a glorious feeling,
And I'm hungry again.
I'm laughing at clouds,
So dark, up above,
I could swallow that photographer whole,
If someone would just give him a shove.
No fun facts tonight because there is sooo much about these fantastic creatures I'd lose you! Suffice to say both crocodiles and alligators are fascinating survivors from the dinosaur era. After millions of years of evolution, they’ve become ferocious, expert hunters, inspiring equal parts respect and fear. We only have 1-2 fatalities a year from "salties" (saltwater crocodiles) over here. Maybe it's their revenge on people wearing that ridiculous footwear!
Happy weekend, everyone! :)

I take pictures because I like it, not because I am good at it.

One of the prettiest hummers on this trip. Not uncommon, but limited range of southern Ecuador and northwest Peru. Note that the flight feathers lack any iridescence because the mechanics of iridescence weakens feathers, obviously a drawback to efficient flight.

Because the city is built on rock, they were unable to build a subway system. Instead, they created this magnificent cable car system that unites the entire city that's both fast and efficient.

With Miracle our Dutch rescue kitty is a carved wooden cat statue that my DD thought would make a neat door holder/door jam.
And this is a two part “tranquil”. The first is obviously a sleeping cat and the second was the blissful zoned-out time I spent cloning out cat hairs on the carpet while I post processed. I find that cloning is a peaceful pursuit.

Because of my daughter's exposure to Covid, we had to postpone our celebration a week until she had a negative PCR test. My son joined us on Zoom.

There are 4 ice explorer tour buses and lots of people to give you an idea of how big this glacier is, even though Athabasca Glacier (in the Columbia Ice Fields, Alberta) has been receding for the last 125 years. It has lost half its volume and shrank back more than 1.5 kms. because of global warming.
People have died falling into deep hidden crevasses in the glacier.
It's an outtake kind of evening. I was working on something else, changed my mind, but saved this crop instead. Because I may have a fondness for faces.
