Today is Friday 9 December 2016...This noon around 10:30 AM I went to Villimale' ( Villingili ) with my close old friend Mohamed Shafeeq and because his wife's family is preparing for a very special occasion...After having egg curry with roshi and a black coffee in Blue Harbor Cafe' near Villimale' Health Centre, I went to the east beach of Villimale' near the abandoned residence of Maldives Police Service...I took photos on the beach starting here and went towards the aged ruined buildings...I than took photos from the east point and walked on the white sandy beach to south wards taking photos and selfies...Today is a beautiful day with no rain and clear sky with bright sun shine but it's not very hot although I was a bit sweaty because of the sun light...I took photos and selfies till the south east edge and projection of the beach...While I took the photos I remembered my days in Villimale' while I was in NSS Police in 1996...From 6 June 1996 till 6 August 1996 I was based in Villimale' Police of NSS...I remembered the accidental incident I had of alerting the monitoring computer node in NSS while I was in Villimale' in 1996...Now it's been 20 years...Read that story in www.naheez.typepad.com ... Allah Akbar...Allah is great... :)
the trip was interesting because, while i've known gee for five years, we'd never met. people wanted to know if he was who he said he was... was it awkward? was it weird? not awkward or weird at all. this person has heard me sob and listened to me whine. he knows the good things i've done and the terrible. he's given advice and never babied me when what i needed was a blunt, painful truth. and i know what people think when you fly to new york to meet a person of the opposite sex and i've heard the judgements and the assumptions. but i'm here to tell you that even now, with the world as fucked up as it is, sometimes people just care about each other without ulterior motives. accept it. i have.
Decided to go out Saturday because the weather was supposed to be cooler, and cloudy. Well it was cooler 85f. But zero clouds. I swear I'm going to move to a state that has clouds.
Got to my first spot, and found out they have now fenced the entrance path to the spot. A GIANT field with a path leading to my spot is not completely fenced. forcing me to walk about an mile out of my way to get to the spot. Yeah, I could have easily jumped the fence, walked through and jumped the next fence. There was so much traffic in the area I could just walk around. I need the exercise anyway.
The long walk to my spot took me pretty close to one of my favorite bridge spots, so I decided to hike up a bit and see what was new. A few new pieces and a few old favorites that were still there, un-touched. Those are in today's upload as well.
Got to my spot finally. This spot has a homeless "issue" but I've had nothing but pleasant interactions with anyone who's approached me. Mostly I think they are just curious what I'm doing out there for 5-6 hours standing around in one spot. As soon as I say "the trains.." they always go "oh, cool." So every time I go there I always take inventory of all of the people who are out there so I know where to keep an eye out. Got there at like 10:15AM and I see a guy coming out from under a tree about 200' away. Moving slow, and carrying a box. Moving the box from one place to another, then another box, etc. I'm not worried about this person.
About an hour into my session, I see a guy walking along in the wash below.. Looks about 60-65, with no shirt, and is about as tan as you can get. This guy has obviously been in the desert sun for a while. After a couple of minutes he gets to me, throws out his hand and introduces himself as "Jeff". Asks how I'm doing and what I'm doing out there. I said "the trains" and he nods. Says he's headed up to the gas station down the tracks and up the road, and asks if I want him to bring me something to drink. "nah, I'm good", "OK, see ya'" Oh, forgot to mention, Jeff had a fixed blade knife about 12" long strapped to the front of his belt. I also carry a knife when I go out, just in-case so I understood his carrying of a knife and seeing it didn't faze me.
Spent about 4 hours at that spot, and hit up another spot on the way home and flicked some other amazing pieces.
Was a great day out, and I had fun. Isn't that what it's all about!!? I even managed to flick some pieces from some of my favorite writes I haven't seen before!

Tabebuia roseo alba
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:
Tabebuia tree, known as Ipê-branco ou amarelo (white, purple pink or yellow ipê or Pau D'arco) in Brazil
Scientific classification
Kingdom: Plantae
Division: Magnoliophyta
Class: Magnoliopsida
Order: Lamiales
Family: Bignoniaceae
Genus: Tabebuia
Gomez
Species
About 100 species; see text
Tabebuia is a Neotropical genus of about 100 species of large shrubs and trees in the tribe Tecomeae of the family Bignoniaceae. The species range from northern Mexico and the Antilles south to northern Argentina. Most species are on the islands of Hispaniola (Dominican Republic and Haiti) and Cuba.
Species in this genus are important as timber trees and as ornamentals because of their showy flowers. Many species are dry-season deciduous and flower on leafless stems at the end of the dry season, making the floral display more conspicuous. The bark of several species is used medicinally. The wood is used for furniture, decking, and other outdoor uses. Remarkably, it has a fire rating of A1 (the best possible, the same as concrete), and is denser than water (it sinks). It is increasingly popular as a decking material due to its insect resistance and durability.
* Tabebuia alba (Cham.) Sandw. (syn.: Tecoma alba Cham, Handroanthus albus (Cham.) Mattos) - Brazil
* Tabebuia avellanedae Lor. ex Griseb. (Pink Ipê, Ipê-roxo, Paud'arco-roxo, Ipê-roxo-damata, Ipê-reto, Ipê-rosa, Ipê-comum, Ipê-cavatã, Lapacho, Peúva, and Piúva ; syn. Tecoma ipe Mart. ex K. Schm., Tecoma avellandedae (Lor. ex Griseb.) Spreg., Handroanthus avellanedae (Lor. ex Griseb.) Mattos, Tabebuia ipe (Mart.) * Tabebuia cassinoides
* Tabebuia chrysantha (Jacq.) Nichols. (Araguaney) from northern South America, is the national tree of Venezuela. The flowers are yellow.
* Tabebuia chrysotricha (Mart. ex DC.) Standl. (Golden Trumpet Tree; syn T. flavescens, T. pedicellata), from Brazil. Golden-yellow flowers with red stripes are 2-3" wide in dense clusters appearing after leaf loss in early spring. Sometimes flowers a second time in late summer. Picturesque seed pods are up to 12" long and remain on the tree through winter.
* Tabebuia donnell-smithii Rose (Prima vera or Gold tree), a native of Mexico and Central Americas, is considered one of the most colorful of all trees. The leaves are deciduous. Masses of golden-yellow flowers cover the crown after the leaves are shed.
* Tabebuia dura
* Tabebuia heptaphylla
* Tabebuia impetiginosa (Pau d'arco), bark used as a medicinal herb
* Tabebuia ochracea
* Tabebuia rosea (A.P. de Candolle) Britton (Pink Poui, Pink tecoma or Apama or Apamate; syn. T. pentaphylla (L.) Hemsley, widely but incorrectly applied to this species) is a popular street tree in tropical cities because of its multi-annular masses of light pink flowers and modest size. The roots are not especially aggressive towards roads and sidewalks. It is native of Brazil
* Tabebuia roseo-alba
* Tabebuia serratifolia (Yellow Poui, Ipê, Pau d'arco, Ipê roxo, or Lapacho) is a commercially farmed hardwood notable for its extreme hardness and resistance to fire and pests. Its inner bark is used as a treatment for fungal infections.

Because of the medium focal length used for this shot, it seems like The Washington Monument and The Capitol are so close. But, really they're about a mile apart from each other. You can see some of the cracks in The Washington Monument that may (or may not) have been caused by the East Coast Earthquake back in August.
Because I am a Girl is Plan International’s global campaign that aims to support millions of girls to get the education, skills and support they need to transform their lives and the world around them. Every year the campaign focuses on a different theme to examine how girls and young women are affected by different circumstances and what can be done to support them. Past reports have covered education, conflict, economic empowerment, cities and technology, and how boys and young men can support gender equality.
For this campaign, we aim to identify the impact of climate change and increasing disaster risk and the perception of this change on girls and children; and what measures key stakeholders (government, civil society, cooperates, etc) should take to help the children especially girls not only cope with the negative effects of climate change but become forces of resilience in their communities.
Building the capacity of children themselves is always at the centre for Plan International. Hence we will organize an activity day for children to learn in an interactive and fun way about disaster risk reduction and climate change and provide them a space to present their own ideas. This will be linked to the ASEAN Day for Disaster Risk Reduction and International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction.
Madagascar is Africa but it’s a continent on itself. And not simply because it’s a huge island, but for the different fauna and flora. As a matter of fact Pangea teaches us that the island never belonged to the continent to which it is geopolitically assigned, hence the differences. In the far Northwest, where Nosy Be – Big Island – and a few smaller ones dot the map, waters are clear and warm, beaches are pretty much clean, people are gentle and the French colonial past makes it easier to communicate.

In the nineties I had the chance to work extensively for a few travel and life-style magazines while I was based first in Milan, Italy and later in New York, NY. When on assignment the schedule was usually tight and the time to photograph not always in sync with the best light or weather conditions, it happens. Nonetheless I always managed to bring home the result and keep my editors happy, which is paramount if you want to land more assignments that, by the way, brought me to several countries around the world.
Some assignments were more fun than others, or easier to accomplish but, nevertheless, each one of them was a positive experience and left enriching memories.
A selection of the images shot then are now part of a photobook, a great collection of beautiful pictures and entertaining anecdotes.
It comes in print and digital.
