I'm sorry, but I couldn't keep the camera quiet without a tripod so overhead. But since I find the tiny martins so cute, I have uploaded the video anyway. Sorry for the jiggle;-)
The long summer is coming to a close. The lengthening nights and decreasing days make our resident vampires slowly reawaken and stir in their coffins!

A sight to see: big, strong, and bold woodpecker. After feeding high up in the trees, she came down to check out a tree that was almost fallen. When the large piece of bark fell off, she looked pretty pleased with herself :)
I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of her beak...

Over the last several days, there has been what they call a "parade" of storm systems rolling through - and today was the biggest one. I actually had to turn down the volume on the first clip because the rain hit the window SOOO loud!! Beach walks are on hold for the moment. As you can see, there is very dangerous high surf as well - and this was filmed close to low tide. An exciting day! And I really had fun capturing it with the Nikon D750 this time.

Rainbow lorikeets are true parrots, within the Psittacoidea superfamily in the order Psittaciformes. The rainbow lorikeet or lorikeet (common name) is a species of parrot found in Australia. It is common along the eastern seaboard, from northern Queensland to South Australia. Its habitat is rainforest, coastal bush and woodland areas. They are true parrots of medium-size, with the length ranging from 25 to 30 cm, including the tail. The weight varies from 75 to 157 g. The plumage of the nominate race, as with all subspecies, is very bright. The head is deep blue with a greenish-yellow nuchal collar, and the rest of the upper parts (wings, back and tail) are green. The chest is orange/yellow. The belly is deep blue, and the thighs and rump are green. In flight a yellow wing-bar contrasts clearly with the red underwing coverts.
Gordonia is a genus of flowering plants in the family Theaceae, related to Franklinia, Camellia and Stewartia. Of the roughly 40 species, all but two are native to southeast Asia in southern China, Taiwan and Indochina. They are evergreen trees, growing to 10–20 m tall. The bark is thick and deeply fissured. The leaves are alternately arranged, simple, serrated, thick, leathery, glossy, and 6–18 cm long. The flowers are large and conspicuous, 4–15 cm diameter, with 5 (occasionally 6-8) white petals; flowering is in late winter or early spring. Le tapir malais est un animal solitaire. Il vit toujours près d’un point d’eau, qui est essentiel à sa survie : il y passe de longues heures à se rafraîchir et les accouplements ont lieu dans l’eau. Plutôt nocturne, il va passer la plupart de la journée à dormir ou se reposer, jusqu’à plus de 12h/jour. La population sauvage de tapirs malais est aujourd’hui estimée à moins de 2500 individus. Cet effectif inquiétant est en grande partie lié à la déforestation galopante. S’ajoute à ce désastre la chasse illégale.
