I could not sleep last night ... I had to put my thoughts and feelings into music, and I wanted to give something to the victims of last Friday's attacks.
So here it is, my small contribution: a musical tribute.
It's straight out of the piano, I'm not 100% satisfied with the way I played it, but that's the best I could get so far.
I wish I had put a video instead of the still image but I only have my 5D mkI with me right now. I might give it an update soon.
May love, friendship, humanism and compassion be our goals.

Oggi andiamo a Forio.... Uno dei simboli è sicuramente
la chiesetta - "Madonna del Soccorso" - che leggenda vuole,
sia a protezione dei marinai.
Singolari i velieri - (sui cornicioni) - Come pure il Crocifisso ...
è del 500 - (manifattura catalana) ... come è capitato a Forio?
La raccontano sia stato ripescato dal mare.
Unitamente, in fianco ... altro simbolo di Forio ... il "Torrione"
che ora ospita il "Museo Civico". - Bello il panorama sottostante.
Visiteremo la Basilica S, Maria di Loreto ...
poi veloci il ritorno a casa.

(un curiosità ... La leggenda racconta … che il crocifisso
una scultura lignea - sia stato trovato in mare da alcuni marinai.
Questi rimasero bloccati a Ischia da una tempesta,
decisero di metterlo al riparo nel convento del Soccorso.
Ma finita la tempesta, non riuscirono più a portarlo fuori,
perché l’ingresso scompariva dalla loro vista.
Decisero così di lasciarlo sul posto a protezione ...
di tutti i marinai che sarebbero passati di lì)

C'est la saison des amours chez les manchots de Humboldt. Lorsqu'un couple est constitué c'est pour la vie mais tant qu'il n'est pas formé tout célibataire peut tenter sa chance.
Ça vocalise beaucoup pendant la saison des amours. Des vocalises propres à chaque couple, c'est leur signe de reconnaissance. Le juvénile devra les mémoriser afin de pouvoir retrouver ses parents. Quand des centaines de manchots vocalisent en chœur, mieux vaut avoir une bonne ouïe.
Filmed on the 29th June at about 7am. With 2 hungry owlets in the nest box and one freshly fledged nearby there was a lot of activity.
At the end the (hungriest) owlet spreads its wings inside the box to block its sibling, nice touch!

Or Horned Grebe. So Dad was keen to see this water bird and luckily enough, there it was. We were in a hide with a few other people. The weather was terrible, heavy drizzle and as you can see it was quite far away too.

Time-lapse footage of the aurora display that covered the majority of the UK on the 27th Feb '14, the result of a X4 solar flare that struck Earth. Taken from Penmon at Anglesey, as it gives a great view of the north horizon with little light-pollution (and its 2mins down the road!)
This was the last thing I expected to see after returning from Iceland and getting to see the aurora 5 times in 9 nights... I'd had no sleep as I was out til 2am shooting on our last night in Iceland and then flying back home.. I spotted a glow in the sky as I popped to the local shop and I figured it was worth a chance to check it out (I knew a big solar flare was on its way to us but didn't figure we'd also see it here)
I got the camera set up and running and then I was running all over Penmon, waking people up in camper-vans, knocking on the holiday homes and getting everyone out to see it, including as many as I could from Facebook etc too! Its a once in a lifetime event probably, so as many need to see it as possible I reckon... :-)
This footage was captured from 8pm until 11pm that evening, and shows the aurora sub-storms peaking several times in those few hours.

I was absorbed in a gardening project when I caught a brown shape out of the corner of my eye.
Turning around, I saw that it was a doe headed up the drive toward the street. I called to her and she paused and turned around.
It was then that I saw her fawn standing next to her. The two of them proceeded back down the driveway (the fawn with proper caution) and past me toward the house and the animal cafe beyond it.
Well, we'd been wondering when we were going to see this year's offspring. In past years, the first sighting has taken place in June.
This year more bucks have been stopping by to feed here than ever before. Frank was speculating that their presence might be keeping the females away.
Since does do visit occasionally anyway, it's more likely that the mother was keeping her fawn out of sight until she thought it was old enough to venture out safely.
I was all set for lunch with a friend at the museum when she had to call off due to illness. Finding myself alone, I went along anyway, though I would have been better with her company. There will be another time.
It has been a while since I posted a video so on this occasion I decided to use my spare time to show some movement. The locations you see are not the best exhibits, but were used because they have good lighting.
