I was feeding the horses at the barn when I noticed a blob that wasn't there before by a tree base near my riding arena. Rooster was with me and bee-lined in that direction where my eyes were focused, when he stopped short in his tracks, like he hit a brick wall, (which is not like him) I knew immediately it was a porcupine. Not no dummy, that Rooster the Booster, obviously, he learned from his last encounter with a spike butt. Dogs don't always understand reason, but they do understand pain. Once bitten, twice shy. I had my phone so while Rooster sat and watched from a distance I took a video. I usually see these guys safely up in trees so this was a treat. The tree tops were swaying in the wind so I can see why it chose this spot. I went back a few hours later and it was still in the same place. Since the porcupine took my mind off my severe arthritis pain shooting from my hip down to my knee joint...I thought I'd repay it with some cat food and black sunflower seeds. It was eating when I left. This morning my world is white once again, we have 4 inches of fresh snow and the young porcupine was gone not wanting to overstay his welcome. My bed and breakfast for wildlife is proving to be quite a worthy establishment. Maybe it got a review from the moose ;-)
Central Oklahoma is on the edge of this bird's year-round range. Many can glean bark for dormant insects and stay here all winter, and some migrate south short distances in extremely frigid weather. This one hung around through the big cold spell.

It was so sunny when I went for a walk, and from the first pic on my video it took only 10 minutes and it was all grey.
