Over winter break we ate at Gladstones on the beach in the palisades, and I set up a timelapse on the railing while we ate. Taken with iPhone 5.
What a lovely day of Lenticular cloud formations and then this vibrant sunset was the cherry on the cake :)
I go out of town for a few days and when I come back I find a juvenile raptor trying to rule our backyard lake (it was perched on a neighbor's fence when I first espied it...no more than 10 feet away)! Small, fast and agile, it was very difficult to track with my camera (as you will see in several empty frames...haha!).
Anyway, it tried attacking the ducklings in two separate "rafts" (ducks are more often referred to as a raft, team or paddling while the group is on water) but got scared off by the mothers Muscovy. I don't know if it will be back tomorrow but I will be waiting.

It's easy to recognize orographic clouds by their distinctive shape, and it's fascinating to watch them whirl in place during high winds aloft events.
Not all that obvious when watching in real time, but in a time lapse video, their dynamic movement can be seen.
these tiny but aggressive little owls are daytime feeders often preying on songbirds that may be three times their size, they make a high pitched sound...

Saturday 24th July was the second time I took a small group to Woodland Valley the purpose of the visits was to survey the Odonata population, 14 species to date. Early evening with the survey complete we sat by a large dammed pond still and quiet apart from the odd slap and whispered profanity as the insects were biting hard, an hour or so later the water surface broke and there was a special visitor, a minute or two later he was joined by another, the silence was then truly broken by some furious clicking of camera shutters. This was a perfect end to our field trip, we all left the site feeling very privileged and looking forward to our next visit.

The girl is brave. I admire her alot. She did not want to go up..she hates to fly..but she said she would do it..AND SHE DID. That is bravery, courage, and inspiration.
Thanks Doctor Mike for being a great pilot...but fuck you for not getting her to puke and cutting MY DAY short cause of high maintenance freak-out chic.
