Our area was on the edge of a storm last night and we got quite the show for about 1/2 hour. The rain was going sideways in sheets, looking like ghosts floating across the ground.
A decent piece of video of my first landing at Hamad International Airport in Doha, Qatar. The new Lusail development across the bay from downtown is prominent in this video. Alle porte del piccolo abitato di Classe, a circa 8 km a sud di Ravenna, si erge uno degli otto monumenti che compongono il sito Unesco della città: è la grandiosa e solenne la BASILICA DI SANT’APOLLINARE IN CLASSE con il suo caratteristico campanile cilindrico.
Nata per accogliere le spoglie di Apollinare, Santo patrono della città, la basilica fu edificata su una precedente area cimiteriale in uso tra la fine del II e l’inizio III secolo d.C. dove sembra avesse trovato sepoltura lo stesso protovescovo.
A finanziarla fu Giuliano Argentario su ordine del vescovo Ursicino (533 – 536 d.C.) ma fu consacrata solo qualche anno dopo (549 d.C.), sotto l’arcivescovato di Massimiano.
Imponente e maestosa, con una facciata alta 30 metri e lunga quasi il doppio, è stata definita il più grande esempio di basilica paleocristiana oggi conosciuta.
Il museo Classis Ravenna è uno dei più importanti musei archeologici d’Italia, nonché un vero e proprio viaggio nella storia di Ravenna.
Insieme alla vicina Basilica di Sant’Apollinare in Classe e all’area archeologica dell’Antico Porto, costituisce il terzo tassello del Parco Archeologico di Classe.
Posto a poche centinaia di metri dalla Basilica di Sant’Apollinare in Classe, il museo si sviluppa su un’area espositiva di ben 2.800 metri quadrati, frutto di un laborioso progetto di archeologia industriale che ha interessato i ruderi di un vecchio zuccherificio.
Ad accogliere i visitatori è una rutilante scala decorata con un’onda di mosaico lunga ben 33 metri, realizzata dal Laboratorio di Restauro del Mosaico Antico della Fondazione RavennAntica: un’opera che sorprende e trascina verso l’ingresso del museo, e che sta a sottolineare come Ravenna e il mare siano un’unica cosa, da sempre.

It's easy to recognize orographic clouds by their distinctive shape, and it's fascinating to watch them whirl in place during high winds aloft events.
Not all that obvious when watching in real time, but in a time lapse video, their dynamic movement can be seen.
This waterfall is a feature of the Oxley Wild Rivers National Park, which is part of the World Heritage Area.

It was worth to get up early this morning to listen to the Pygmy-Owl. It was -11°C and I needed to go there with my bicycle because the location is in a forest were no vehicles are allowed. Good that I took hot tea with me and I was happy to listen to the sound of the Owl 😉
The camera and lens were left in place for the shots; nothing was moved, resized or pasted out of place from exactly where it occurred (I'm not a fan of faked "big moon " shots).
The post-rise images were captured at an exposure that precluded inclusion of the foreground, so the presence of the static foreground captured at an exposure a couple of minutes earlier implements a bit of a time shift of the foreground from pre to post-rise.
This guy was so active I had to set up a trail cam to figure out what he was doing. Turns out they really like black oil seeds.
