About a half mile up the road from Goode, VA is Goode Station. Now, the train tracks run through Goode, so I'm thinking Goode Station refers more to the time of wagon carriage, before the railroad came through, and it is a crossroads. Not much there now except this closed store/gas station, a couple of houses, and the church you see in the background.

What's left of the old Smackout country store. This is located between Seymour and Ava on K highway, and was called Smackout due to the many car wrecks that occurred way back then because of the curving, hilly, and dangerous road. I can remember in years past, there used to be old gas pumps here too, long gone now.

This little store building was easy to miss when you drove by. But it had played an important role in the life of a small rural community in Jefferson County, TN. It was burned down this past weekend. I drove by and saw the smoke in the rain coming from the remnants. It was probably time for it to go. But nevertheless, I felt sad that another little part of our history had passed into memory.
