This is the Paulina general store. Paulina is an unincorporated community in Oregon that is little more than this store-slash-post-office-slash-saloon and the 120 or so people who depend on it.

Sadly, I had to shoot into the sun for this. We were just passing through and couldn't be at this spot when the light was better.

Paulina Porizkova was nowhere to be found.

Siding had covered an old advertisement on this barn near Watervliet for years. The person demolishing the barn left this wall up so that people could get to see the sign. The store advertised here is featured in photo at www.flickr.com/photos/fotoguy49057/3229638110/

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue and Speaker Paul Ryan meet with Blain Supply store managers from across the country, and then speak with the news media, at Blain Supply, in Janesville, WI, on Aug. 3, 2017. Secretary Perdue begins a five-state RV tour today. This “Back to Our Roots” Tour, will gather input on the 2018 Farm Bill and increasing rural prosperity, at the Wisconsin State Fair Park, in West Allis, near Milwaukee, MN, on Aug. 3, 2017. Along the way, Perdue will meet with farmers, ranchers, foresters, producers, students, governors, Members of Congress, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) employees, and other stakeholders. This is the first of two RV tours the secretary will undertake this summer. “The ‘Back to our Roots’ Farm Bill and rural prosperity RV listening tour will allow us to hear directly from people in agriculture across the country, as well as our consumers – they are the ones on the front lines of American agriculture and they know best what the current issues are,” Perdue said. “USDA will be intimately involved as Congress deliberates and formulates the 2018 Farm Bill. We are committed to making the resources and the research available so that Congress can make good facts-based, data-driven decisions. It’s important to look at past practices to see what has worked and what has not worked, so that we create a farm bill for the future that will be embraced by American agriculture in 2018.” This first RV Tour will feature stops in five states: Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, and Indiana. For social media purposes, Secretary Perdue’s Twitter account (@SecretarySonny) will be using the hashtag #BackToOurRoots. USDA Photo by Lance Cheung.

This was scanned from a slide I took in 1996 in Bolivia, South America. This was in the town of Achacachi on the high plateau (Altiplano) near lake Titicaca. I grew up in Bolivia, and it's a special place to me. . .

I've decided to use Photoshop CS2 exclusively for now to force myself to learn it. I'm having a dreadful time navigating all the "bells and whistles". I want to go back to the simplicity of my old standby "Microsoft Digital Image Pro 10" - but, just like any user, I have to burn the bridges by uninstalling the old program for awhile.

So give me a break on the quality of the post-processing !!

Went to look at chandelier's with my mom today. How exhilerating.

Originally a Market Basket Supermarket. In the early 1980's Kroger, owner of Market Basket left Southern California. The Market Basket Chain of stores were split up, a few going to several different chains, including Ralphs, Vons, Boys and Hughes. This store was sold to Hughes Markets and stayed a Hughes Family Market until Ralphs Grocery Company took over the Hughes Chain around October 1998. Shortly thereafter Yucaipa took over Ralphs Supermarkets and kept the Ralphs name and the Food 4 Less name that Yucaipa also owned. All the other names that Yucaipa owned were changed to either Ralphs or Food 4 Less. Some of the names dropped included The Boys Markets, Alpha-Beta Supermarkets, Viva Markets, etc. Shortly after the take over of Hughes, Kroger bought the Ralphs Company from Yucaipa and eventually re-named all of the stores Ralphs. This store remained a Ralphs until 2006. It sat vacant for a short period and is now a Crown Books Store, which is now currently closing at the end of the year. There are also other stores in this center, including Longs Drugs. One of xx photos of this shopping center which is located on Whittier Blvd. in La Habra, California, Southern California. Photo update taken on FRIDAY March 28, 2008 of the conversion and renovation of a shopping center to a Whole Foods Supermarket. Photos taken at sunset. The original front facade has now been removed. Lincoln and Rose in Venice, California.

The former SAFEWAY SUPERMARKET, which is to the left of CVS Pharmacy and 99 Cents Only Store which is located to the right of the former SAFEWAY Supermarket. Former SAFEWAY SUPERMARKET, converted to VONS in 1988 when VONS took over SAFEWAY SUPERMARKETS. VONS Supermarkets eventually closed this store and it became a Pick N Save, which the parent company later changed its Big Lots. This Big Lots location is now closed as indicated by the sign in the window. The lease for this former Big Lots has expired, and the store will be converting back to a supermarket. Whole Food Supermarket is taking over the Big Lots site as well as taking over the CVS Pharmacy next Store (former Savon Drug Store). The CVS is preparing to move and take over another location on the property, a former Kinney Shoe Store, that was converted by its parent company to a Foot Locker, which later closed. One of xx photos of this shopping center.

The 99 Cents Only Store replaced several shops that were originally located in the center. A little bit of trivia, a couple of years prior to the 99 cents only store arriving, Pep Boys was scheduled to take over the site with service bays in the back. The neighborhood threw a fit, kept modifying the plan until they decided not to move to this location, which was tucked away behind the original Kinney Shoes/Foot Locker building.

Photo of former Thrity Drug Store, now Rite Aid. Corner photo of the former Ralphs Supermarket, this is the photo of the former Thrity Drug Store, now Rite Aid. Rite Aid remodeled this store with their classic facade shortly after taking over the store. The former Ralphs, now Ross Dress for Less is to the right of the Rite Aid entrance. This shopping center is located at Vernon and Figueroa in Los Angeles, California. Southern California. It originally contained a SAFEWAY SUPERMARKET (per Los Angeles County Public Library records) At some point the store was taken over by Ralphs Supermarkets. It was operated as a Ralphs until 2005/2006, when the Ralphs store closed. Subsequently the store was emptied and turned into a Ross Dress for Less Store. Next to the former Ralphs was a drug store. It was a Thrifty Drug Store until it became a Rite Aid Pharmacy Drug Store. The Rite Aid Chain took over the the Thrifty PayLess Drug Store chain in or around 1997, converting all the acquired stores to Rite Aide Pharmacy Stores. To the right of the former Ralphs are a couple of small shops. One of XX photoes of this location.
