The Boston Store opened in Utica in 1918. In 1941 the store moved into a new building that filled almost the entire block between Genesee, Bleecker, Charlotte and Oriskany Streets in downtown Utica. The Boston Store closed on Christmas Eve in 1976.
What's shown here is the recently (sometime after 2019) uncovered facade at the corner of Bleecker and Charlotte Streets. The main entrance was on Genesee Street, which looked like this in the mid-1950s. The Genesee Street facade currently has faux windows of mirrored glass.

The store opened on 30th September 1981, supplying retailers with groceries, catering foods, wines and spirits, frozen foods, tobacco and more. The building was designed and built by Turner Construction and their architect John Wharton. It cost £350,000 to build, covered 18,000 square feet and had parking for 50 cars. The story was covered in the Keighley News of 2nd October 1981.
In July 2021, Keighley and District Local History Society acquired an extensive collection of photograph negatives taken by the Keighley News. Groups of negatives were held in small wallets with the date and basic labelling written on the wallet. This image is developed from one of those negatives. The image was processed by Tim Neal in August 2021.
After the NYC Photobloggers 2 event at the Apple Store SOHO, I decided to take a few pictures of the place, especially this cool glass bridge they have spanning the second floor.
This picture was taken just as an Apple Store employee informed me that picture taking was not allowed in the store.

Half imported gourmet goods from France and Italy, a few local ingredients and a room full of prepared foods. My wallet was emptied on a number of small (but costly) treats including salted caramels, sweets, nougats, cookies that I had been eyeing (from the internet).

Driving through the dusty, desert-like middle of nowhere I finally happened upon a tiny oasis. It was as dry and dusty as it's surroundings, edged by jagged buttes with flat tops, but it had quaint buildings and kind people.
Here's the history on the quaint dusty western town of Winnett!
"Winnett was named for Walter John Winnett, who was born in the Queen's Hotel—in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Winnett ran away from home as a boy, seeking adventure in "Indian country." His excellent marksmanship abilities helped him get jobs with outfits who were always looking for someone who could keep them in fresh meat. When he was captured by Sioux Indians and later adopted into the tribe, he was given the name Eagle Eyes because of his remarkable shooting skills. Winnett established a ranch in Montana Territory in 1879 near an active trading post and the Hangman's Tree used by vigilantes in the area. The massive ranch house, which he built in 1900 housed his own family and served as a gathering place for the community. Dances, weddings, funerals, church services, and school were all held here. Billings was the closest town, so Winnett built up a freight line business to haul supplies. Each of his outfits consisted of ten to twenty horses and huge wagons. In 1910 he built a store and petitioned for a post office—and with that, Winnett became an official town.
