New AFB out today. Join me as I continue my Tallahassee Takeover by first examining the life and legacy of former Albertsons #4315 / canceled Publix GreenWise Market #1323 before we head across the street to see Publix #150's replacement: store #852. You won't want to miss the story on how Tallahassee almost had a Publix across the street from another Publix. albertsonsfloridablog.blogspot.com/2023/07/former-alberts...

Abe Lincoln shopped here. Built in 1860, possibly the oldest working General Store in Indiana. One half mile from Cataract Falls.
Built in 1923, it is one of five Frank Lloyd Wright designed houses in the City of Los Angeles. This unique house is small but, like all of the master architect's residences, is ideally suited to the site.
The house is built on a steep hillside in the Hollywood Hills at a time when the hills did not have the rich foliage present today. At the time of its construction, Storer House is said to have resembled a Pompeiian villa. Frank Lloyd Wright's son, Lloyd Wright, was the landscape architect, providing an illusion of a ruin barely visible within its jungle environment.

Part 3 in a 6 part series.
A personal favorite, while having a seat trying to get some cute puppies to hold still for a shot I happened to click off this image of the interior of the Rabbit Hash General Store in Rabbit Hash, Kentucky. Eating ice cream, having a beer, or tending your store is the priority of the day.

Fremont's struggles to control the mines would lead to a near war with the Merced Mining Company, which during Fremont's absence had jumped several of his mines. At various points, they seized two large mines, then went after the last, Pine Tree, resulting in a siege where they trapped several Fremont loyalists for days before being driven off, and later an armed confrontation in front of the "fort" built to protect the mine. In 1859, the court cases went to the Supreme Court, which validated Fremont's claim. However, continued struggles with the miners, coupled with corruption among his men and his own incompetence in mining miners, soon drove Fremont from his grant, which he sold in 1863 for $6.5 million.
In 1856, Italian Louis Trabucco moved to Bear Valley and opened a store. Successful in his buisness ventures he returned to Italy and married Elena, bringing her back to California, and together running a string of stores in Benton Mills (Bagby), Mount Bullion and Mount Ophir. After a fire destroyed their original Bear Valley store, the Trabuccos rebuilt their store here. The general store ran until 1912. It still remains in the Trabucco family.
