This red brick structure in Charlotte Court House, Virginia dates from about 1825. It presumably began as a tavern then became a store for general merchandise and an office building. It is in a state of disrepair but is slated for preservation by the APVA. The pedimented front gable is a classic feature of Federal-style architecture. The facade is Flemish Bond and the sides are 5-course American bond. Old photographs show that the structure once had a portico with two tall columns; however, when the street was widened in 1954, the portico became a casualty. A single window is above the Federal-style entrance. Two 6/6 windows presently flank the entry, but in a 1928 photo shows that the building had two 9-light store windows. Tucker's Store gained the name after the owners and operators of a mercantile store at this location. The building is one of 4 brick buildings in a row built in similar style.

This building is part of the Charlotte Court House Historic District (Virginia Dept. of Historic Resources ID: 185-0023; the building's ID is 185-23-480. The entire district was placed on the Natrion Register of Historic Places 8 Feb 1995. NHRP #95000023.

Hollister Store, 1/2015, by Mike Mozart of TheToyChannel and JeepersMedia on YouTube

Location : Quebec City (QC - CA)

This is my favorite store on busy Main Street in Hendersonville. Usually filled with tourists. All kinds of wonderful shops in a lovely setting.

We have Bakeries (you can't even call the places in WalMart and other stores, Bakeries)form time to time, but if you go inside the stores are usually empty with just someone to take your birthday cake order or maybe make you a sandwich. This is like the places I remember from the Northeast where it was a visual and sensual treat just to go into the doors. The only thing lacking is that the fragrance is not so strong because they don't do the baking on premises.

Photo of former Sav on Drug Store, now CVS Pharmacy. The shopping center, its shops, including the former former SAFEWAY Supermarket opened in the early 1970's, prior to the opening of Fox Hills Mall. The SAFEWAY SUPERMARKET operated until around 1983, when it closed this store, and expanded its Liquor Barn Store chain. Liquor Barn was eventually sold off, and this store closed. The store sat vacant for a short time until Marshalls Company took over and converted the former Supermarket/Liquor Store into a Marshalls Store. The Marshalls has been remodeled at least one time since moving into the site. This former SAFEWAY is located in a small shopping center in the Fox HIlls area, behind the Fox Hills Mall. It is on the far right of the shopping center. In the middle are different shops and restaurants that have also changed over the years. On the far left was a drug store that converted to CVS. Several years ago, CVS left Southern California and sold several stores to this Sav On Drug Store Chain. Sav On only changed the names on the building and kept the original CVS decor. In 2006, Albertsons sold all their free Standing Sav On and OSCO Drug Stores to CVS. This former Sav on Drug Store converted to CVS in 2006. CVS gave this store a full remodel. One of xx photos of this shopping center. Fox Hills is located in Culver City, which is in Southern California.

Photo of CVS Pharmacy and 99 Cents Only Store which is located to the right of the former SAFEWAY Supermarekt. Former SAFEWAY SUPERMARKET, converted to VONS in 1988 when VONS took over SAFEWAY SUPERMARKETS. VONS Supermarkets eventually closed this store and it became a Pick N Save, which the parent company later changed its Big Lots. This Big Lots location is now closed as indicated by the sign in the window. The lease for this former Big Lots has expired, and the store will be converting back to a supermarket. Whole Food Supermarket is taking over the Big Lots site as well as taking over the CVS Pharmacy next Store (former Savon Drug Store). The CVS is preparing to move and take over another location on the property, a former Kinney Shoe Store, that was converted by its parent company to a Foot Locker, which later closed. One of xx photos of this shopping center.

Awesome thrift store record player I bought for $18!

While Maas Brothers claimed to be Tampa's store, Burdines claimed to be "the Florida store;" Macy's doesn't try to pretend to be anything.

West Shore Plaza opened in 1967 as the Bay Area's first air-conditioned, indoor shopping mall. The original mall was a typical barbell-type mall with anchors Maas Brothers and JCPenney on either end and Woolworth and Food Faire as junior anchors. Situated at the north end of the South Tampa neighborhood, the mall was an instant favorite among Tampa's middle class, even drawing people from Pinellas County due to its proximity to the Tampa end of two of the three bay bridges.

The mall received its first update in 1973 when Food Faire was demolished and a new wing and a third anchor, Robinson'sd, was added, giving the mall an L shape. By the 1980s, West Shore was losing business to newer suburban shopping malls, especially the nearby two-level Tampa Bay Center. Robinson's was replaced by Maison Blanche in 1987, which was replaced by Dillard's in 1990. Tampa's beloved Maas Brothers was converted to Burdines in 1991. In 1999, with the construction of International Plaza one mile to the north, the mall radically reinvented itself, adding Saks Fifth Avenue as a fourth anchor, a fourteen-screen AMC theater, parking garages, a new corridor, and a number of upscale restaurants. Dillard's relocated to International in 2001 and Sears took over the spot in 2002, effectively killing off the remains of Tampa Bay Center. Burdines converted to Macy's in 2005.

I've noted several times about artistic touches that are visible throughout Vietnam. We finally visited to an actual art store. This store was huge, with an amazing array of high-end objects d'art that reflected fine workmanship and aesthetics.

This store clearly catered to tourists, and the prices were much higher than what you see on the streets that peddle souvenirs. But the quality was also far superior. Some of the big-ticket items like this humongous had sculpture ran into tens of thousands of US dollars.

I was hoping to take many more photos of the items on display, but one of the store staff asked me very politely to not take any photos, so this was the last one. Otherwise, I could have done a mini series just on this store!

When grocery store chains fled US Inner Cities in response to the urban crisis during the last few decades of the twentieth century, ethnic merchants - newly immigrated to the United States after Congress abolished the National Origins Formula in 1965 - bought up abandoned property and established a monopoly of small to mid-sized grocery and corner stores.

Still serving our farm community.

Photograph taken on April 4, 2009, Saturday morning of former Milliron’s Department Store that opened approximately in 1949. A few years later The Broadway Department Store chain took over this site and it was a Broadway Department Store until the early 1990s. The Broadway disposed of this location. Mervyns took over the site, gutted the interior, remodeled the interior, removed the rooftop parking, as well as an escalator tower and stairs that led to the roof. Located in Westchester California on Sepulveda and LaTijera. Los Angeles California. In 2008, Mervyns announced that they were closing down all of their stores. This former Mervyns Department Store closed down in early January 2009. Originally, when this was a Broadway, you could drive up to the roof for parking via a ramp. The ramp has been sealed off after Mervyns took over the buliding.

Kohl's Department Stores has taken over the site and is currently renovating the interior of the building. The entire bulding has been gutted. The Mervyns' name was removed the outside of the bulding in the last couple of weeks. The giant (with Mervyns' label scars) blank sign holders that can be seen in some of the current batch of photos were originally used when this store operated as The Broadway as well as by Mervyns.

This now gutted Mervyns Store, is awaiting rebirth as Kohls. This is main parking lot entrance. Within the last couple of weeks, the Mervyns sign has been removed from above the doorway.

Located across the street from the former Mervyns is another Shopping Center. In this center is a Longs Drugs and a Ralphs Supermarket. In 2008 CVS Pharmacy Stores puchased the Longs Drug Store Chain. In early April 2009, the Longs Drug Store changed its name to CVS Pharmacy. The CVS Pharmacy is located Ralphs Westchester at Sepulveda at Westchester Parkway, near Lincoln (sort-of) in Los Angeles, California. Ralphs Westchester was builts first, due to its success, Longs Drugs was then built next door. About a block down the street, at Lincoln is another CVS Pharmacy, formerly a Sav-on Drug Store. The cashier at the new CVS store said they were keeping both CVS Stores. Also in this shopping center is Pet Co (former JJ Newberrys then Flax Art Store, now sub divided into Petco, Tuesday Morning and misc. Shops.

In the shopping center connected to the former Mervyns Department Store is the other CVS Pharmacy Store, a former Sav-on Drug Store. This other CVS Pharmacy store is located in a companion shopping center and separtated by less than a mile from the former Longs now CSW Store. In this shopping center is Trader Joes Market, CVS Pharmacy Store, TJ Maxx (former JC Penny Department Store), Pandera Bakery, Hometown Buffet, some misc. shops.

Photos taken on March 28, 2009. In this shopping center is a former Sav-on Drug Store, which is now a CVS Pharmacy Store. Also inside the former Sav-On Drug Store was a Sav-On Ice Cream Counter that served Carnation Ice Cream. This area was replaced prior to it becoming a CVS.

In 2006 CVS took over all free standing Sav-on Drugs (also OSCO Drugs) from Albertsons Stores. Albertsons Supermarkets kept only the Sav-Ons (OSCOs) located inside their supermarkets. Yes, this Sav-On Drug Store was converted into an OSCO Drug Store for a hot moment in the mid 1980s, when the owners of Sav-On Drugs, decided to rebrand all of their drug stores across the nation as OSCO Drugs. The name bombed out, sales dropped and they renamed all of the stores in the west Sav-On Drug Stores. The stores in the East, kept the OSCO name.

This former Sav-On Drug Store is a replacement store, opened in early 1970s. The original location was where the CVS/VONS Parking Lot Sign is now located. The original shopping center hugged along Sepulveda, with the parking lot in the rear of the shopping center. The Sav-on Drug Store was at the corner, with a Food Fair Supermaket next to it. It was a traditionally designed row of stores. The Food Fair closed in the 1960's and became a non name brand store called Decor. Art work, pictures, etc. In the late 1960s to early 1970s a the new shopping center was built in the back with a VONS SUPERMARKET and a Sav-On Drug Store, along with a row of shops on each side. The former Sav-On Drug Store now CVS Pharmacy is located to the left of VONS. This center is located on Sepulveda Blvd at National in West Los Angeles, Southern California. Also in the center is a Pizza Hut Restaurant, that was formerly a Straw Hat Pizza Restarant. Also there still is a store located in this complet named Decor, its relationship with the other Decor is unknown, but it has been there since the new shopping center opened in the early 1970s.

The VONS was remodeled a couple of years ago to the Lifestyle format and its exterior has been altered and painted.

The CVS Pharmacy now has competition from another CVS Pharmacy that took over a former Longs about a mile down the road. Also note, this is a 24 hour a day CVS!
