As we prepare to head back to Manifest Columbia for our weekly photoset this Saturday, here first are your weekly teaser photos, this one taking a look at one of the doorways leading to some sort of employees-only room within the store. As you can imagine, Manifest – being a record store – was a cool enough place that leaving a doorway like this completely blank like a normal doorway was out of the question, haha! Indeed, they decided to decorate this one in particular with four identical Cheap Trick posters, above which is layered a Record Store Day poster featuring a quote from Jeff Tweedy. Per Wikipedia, Record Store Day – for those who have never heard of it – is designed to “celebrate the culture of the independently owned record store” (italics mine), which technically Manifest is not, since they are owned by Trans World Entertainment. But still, with the status of record stores in general these days, I don’t really have a problem with Manifest taking part! As a matter of fact, I’m pretty certain all Trans World-owned stores participate in the yearly event.

These places are public so these photos are too, but just as I tell where they came from, I'd appreciate if you'd say who :)

They were queued up for Record Store Day at Sweet Melissa Records in Marietta, Georgia on Saturday. I liked this photo because, at first glance, you can't tell if it's 1970 or 2014. A closer examination shows a few clues that it's a modern photo, those being the 770 area code, the coffee cup with a plastic lid, the purse, a sports watch, and a sneaker. Did any of you attend or see a Record Store Day on Saturday? I didn't get in line but enjoyed chatting with the folks lined up and enjoyed snapping a few photos of them.

More from a foggy day. The lights still on in this early morning winter foggy view of the Homehardware Store down by the highway.

Stored withdrawn on Bath Green Park (82F) on 3 May 1964, Fowler S&D 8F 53809 awaits the call for her final journey. An enthusiast or shed worker has hopefully chalked "save her" on the smokebox. And of course she was, having been sent to Barry with sister class member 53808. Purchased from Barry and restored, the loco early in its preservation also worked on the mainline. The last of the class of eleven locos to be withdrawn from service was 53807 in September 1964.

This 123,455 square foot Kroger Marketplace store opened on April 6th, 2016. This is my first time at one of the Marketplace stores since I generally hunt down smaller or dated Kroger stores and Kroger doesn't have stores in my area. Here is the previous location this store replaced www.flickr.com/photos/fanofretail/11229403274/; oddly enough the old location was open 24 hours, but the new one is open 6am to 1am...

The store seemed very similar to Giant Eagle's Market District concept, except it had more general merchandise items and didn't have a full cafe / restaurant. One thing I did notice is that the left side was very busy, but the further to the right side I went, the store got much emptier. The far right side with apparel, seasonal, toys, and pharmacy was just about a ghost town... I imagine, if other Marketplace stores have similar shopping patterns, Kroger will tweak the concept and possibly ditch certain departments like apparel.

I can see why Kroger would want to branch out into selling general merchandise; the supermarket industry has lower margins and general merchandise has higher margins. The marketplace stores don't seem to (in my opinion) offer enough departments like toys and apparel to become a destination for those types of items. Also, I seriously doubt those types of items are really impulse buys that people will buy when they are at a supermarket. On the other hand, the store does seem good at merchandising other items such as kitchen or general household merchandise that do go along with groceries. The store concept seems to be in the gray area between supermarket (grocery and related items) and supercenter (a store that has pretty much everything), which may not be a good place to be.

Overall, the Marketplace concept seems pretty good though.

The Cordray Drug Store is located at 3827 Ave L, in Galveston, Texas.

Ashley and Michael Cordray, stars of the show "Restoring Galveston" opened the 'rolled' ice cream shop in June 2022.

Judy and I watch the show and were excited to visit the shop. The ice cream was delicious! We look forward to going back.

Michael mixing the ingredients before 'rolling' the ice cream. Their show is on the TV behind them.

Usually I don't get so much lego in so little time but I dragged my mom to the Lego store the day after Christmas hoping I would get some amazing deals. Too bad there were barely any. ;_; The Power Functions set was from my uncle for Christmas/ Hannukah but I forgot to add it to my last picture. I also had some money from the Holidays to get this.

NSW. A quick visit to the hardware store, wearing masks, now recommended by the store, followed by collecting our (ordered online) groceries.

Posted on the Disney Store website, this will be the collector's version of the Live-action movie for Beauty and the Beast...and I'm not that impressed. Belle looks mad at something, quite possibly this dress which is only so-so IMHO

I love all this dinnerware, from Anthropologie. Of course, I come here for the clothing, really...

MOC: Modular LEGO Store.

The original LEGO Brand Retail Store set also has these skylights, but in this case they're actually transparent and will let light into the building. I also scaled them up from 2x3 studs on the original to 2x4, as that's a more iconic LEGO brick.

In the Netherlands there is a lot of discussion about the wearing facemasks because of the pandemic. Despite that a new store opened in Utrecht selling facemasks. Let's hope that medical personnel is clothed far better than these mannequins...

The first time to the airport to take photos since 21st February. I went four times in early March to drop family (Tim back to Asutralia, Alastair and Jaime to go to Australia on ten days holiday and Shamina to Auckland ) and collect Shamina a few days later.

The only other aircraft I have photographed in the three months were three Lufthansa 747 Jumbos on repatriation flights - and they did a "thank you" circuit over the city and I shot them from my lockdown front lawn!

Here are mainly A320 with four 777-200 further back (one tail partially obscured by a tree).

I took this view of Tri-Town Plaza in Marlton, NJ. in the 1980's. This was opened in 1975 as an enclosed mini-mall during that craze but was converted into a strip center in the early 1980's. Actually two photos pieced together. At the far right of the center is the store I work at, opened as A&P - when I was hired in 1983 it had just been converted into an A&P Super Fresh. The K mart is now a Sears.

Looking towards Toton Training Compound from the hill.

Locos I can identify are:

47476 - ex 'Night Mail'

47348 - ex 'Saint Christophers Railway Home'

45015 - everyones favourite preserved/rotting Peak

Also visible are the two ex class 37 power unit carriers 37070 (025031) and 37138 (025032).

To the top right there are a pair of 37's - on appears to be a 37/5 in metals, next to an EWS 37 3769*.

There is also a Loadhaul 56 and a mainline blue 58.

Celebrating my 9th piece of modern architecture in the archiBRICKture series, the modular LEGO Store is a colorful and clean building where both adults and kids will find all the joy with the LEGO bricks!

The design rips off all colors except on the front door, above where you can find all the different colors of LEGO bricks, the signature of this brand. Next to the door is the giant wooden sculpture of minifigure, and people will have no difficulty to locate the store!

The new building introduces different curves and round corners to soften the block massing, giving the facade a subtle but interesting look. The curves also go around the facade cut-out for the minifigure statue and the glass wall behind it, which allows sunlight to enter the shop.

There are 3 floors and a rooftop. Inside, you can find all the popular box sets including the latest ones, a Pick-A-Brick corner, a children play area and a LEGO factory machine display. On the rooftop, you can have some refreshments, or share ideas if there is any MOC event.

So now you have a new place to haunt, what are you waiting for?

Former Clover Store in Cinnaminson, NJ. Clover opened here in 1972, closing with the chain in 1996. It then became an Ames store and later VF Outlet. It is currently an indoor go-kart track. The canopy was modified from its Clover look by VF Outlet. The three filled in windows and doors under the edge of the canopy were for Clover Market, which closed in 1973 and was then used for office space by Clover. In 1980 it became an A&P PLUS discount grocery store.

This was one of 33 JCPenney stores to close in May 2014. This store was a smaller sized JCPenney, with only 34,260 square feet. This JCPenney was built in 1992.

An upscale clothing store on Canal Street, New Orleans, Louisiana. Original is a 1974 35mm Kodachrome

I took this picture of Jenners amazing Edinburgh department store back in 2004, and did the selective colour edit to try out a Photoshop technique I saw in a photography magazine. I would like to dedicate this picture to Tigereon, in response to his inverse reality picture. Check out his stream here

Intercity Buses Setra S215HR SX 456 was apparently stored when photographed at Deryneia on Cyprus on November 24th 2017. The curtains pulled to protect the interior from the Mediterranean sun is a clue. Owned by Intercity Buses this coach was new in the UK back in April 1984 as Wahl, London SE5 A113 UYN.

This is the main retail outlet in McCarthy, Alaska.

MOC: Modular LEGO Store.

Not too much detail in the back, as it's a corner building, but there's a bench where the employees can seek refuge once the crowd inside gets too demanding. And judging from how it's been from time to time in the LEGO stores I've visited, it's needed.

Note the surveillance camera ;)
